I don't know about you guys, but I'm already pretty physced about the 40k MMO thats going to be released. I was wondering, are any of you guys gonna give it a go? And if you do, what would you want to see in it? Personally, I hope that a guild system would be created in which you can make your own company, and own a small ship/battle barge that can serve as your companies headquarters where you can use drop pods/thunderhawks to travel to a specific location on the surface. And if your not going to play, what would it take for you to change your mind?

I hope the there will be more then just two factions. I'd love to see sprawling seas of 'Nids vs. A host of Necrons vs. A warband of chaos cultists, daemons, and marines. Additionally, I'm hoping for battles that are race specific, 'nids attack the marine base? Makes sense, 'nids attacking a Tombworld? Not as much. This mmo has alot of potential story wise and could really flesh out some of the more limitted armies ; tau, necrons ...
I'm hoping for alot I suppose

In a review, I believe it was this one: http://www.gamereplays.org/dawnofwar2/portals.php?show=news&news_id=606969
They stated that the Nids will be an evolving PvE race that will do raids on outpost, cities, and military bases. I don't know about the Necrons, but I'm sure they will fulfill the same role. As for factions. There will already be three, I've seen Chaos, Imperium of Man(Which includes Space marines along with the Imperial Guard) and Orks. Maybe Eldar will make an appearance? I have no clue.
EDIT: Heres two trailers from Youtube.

I'd like to see some form of access to the larger stuff. Some way to play a dreadnought or drive a tank would be awesome. I just don't know how to balance it.

Pretty much depends how much on the fps side they go. FPSs with tanks have been common for a long time... RPGs... Well I guess you could have them in some kind of battleground, kind like siege weapons. If the game is balanced with vehicles in mind then it shouldn't be too hard to include them as usable items instead of scenery.

Realm-based MMOs often use points gained in RvR battles to allow access to warmachines or siege gear.
I'm not bothered what's in it, as long as there's the depth of the PvE game to allow more than just killing for XP.
Fluff-wise, no-one should get to drive a Dreadnought. Unless they're killed and spend shedloads of resources to upgrade. Then they'll have to forgo the majority of the storyline quests, as they can't fit down corridors or through doors.

As much as I'd love to get in on this game, reality is I doubt I'll be able too. My wife already thinks warhammer takes up enough time, I don't think she'd be too keen on letting me start playing it online as well. Happy wife is a happy life!
But it would be cool to see how it turns out. Im thinking it'll be chaos, imperium, orks and eldar to start. Maybe expansions (if it ever gets that far) will include some other races like Dark Eldar and Tau. who knows!

I'd love to see levels be "points", the same way you decide how many points a 40k battle is. You start at x points, enough for a single space marine, or a few orks, or a few eldar, or a small unit of guardsmen. As you level up, you gain more points, and can take more units, or better equipment.

Do you really think a dreadnought would care about stuff as doors or a petty wall standing in his way?

Would hardly work for a mmorpg... Mmorts perhaps, but the attempts at such a genre have been quite a failure to date afaik. The best to hope for is a mmorpg/ fps crossover a la neocron or (dare I say) tabula rasa. Most of you probably haven't even heard those names A true mmofps would be the best thing, but unlikely. Still, a crossover like those cited would suit well the franchise... You could specialize over time to become some "class" (like an aspect warrior or a devastator/assault/veteran marine). Would hardly work for orks though. The mmorpg feel would work well for progression and the fps gameplay would suit the dynamics of 40k... Pure mmorpgs tend to be quite "static" in their combat.

Note, this is a MMO, not a MMORPG. They have stated that vehicles will be a major part of the game, as they are a major part of WH40K.
From the trailers, it looks like it will be a third-person based game, with the ability to zoom to first person.
IMO, gear should be fairly static, like COD: MW, otherwise they risk becoming another ripoff of WOW. Player skill and character traits should be the focus of the game, let you tweak your characters skills to suit your taste, ie. sniper, scout, vehicle driver, heavy weapons, etc.

Looks awesome, I think that it will be Imperium vs Chaos vs Orks.
Possibly an Expansion with the Inquisition and another Chaos Race...if it sells good, and thats just a prediction.
I really hope they include the 4 main Chaos gods, having only one like in Warhammer Online had was lame IMHO.
I'd deff be an ork warbiker...green iz best.

Just because gear isn't static doesn't automatically make it WOW. Consider literally every other roleplaying game ever made.
The details for this game are so nebulous right now, and we know so little. However, what I've seen has me interested, and an MMO that actually has action, like my beloved Planetside, is a good thing. I'll at the very least try the beta or trial when it's available.

I honestly think a pure MMOFPS would not work as well as a MMORPG/ FPS hybrid in this universe, which makes me glad they are going the path they are. Just hope they decide that more than 2 sides is the key a successful WH: 40k game.

Well Neocron worked in this way: you had skills that you trained with USE that influenced some factors (like overall accuracy, IE the speed at which the cone of fire closed after firing and the minimum size of the CoF), while the combat itself was FPS based, you had to manually aim your target and move... Skills didn't affect your chance to hit, if the target was "bigger" than the reticle and under it, you hit 100% of the time, basically like any FPS works nowadays. It had melee combat as well.
Imho something along those lines would work well, with perhaps a minimum of activated skills for more variety in combat (like a shot that took time charging but hit for extra damage or a melee swing with knockdown attached).
Neocron had vehicles as well, though to be fair they were mostly for pve since they did pitiful damage in pvp (they were quite resilient though and provided the necessary transportation).
Neocron had psykers as well (yes, literally. Psimonks, guys that could kill things with their minds... Does this ring a bell? ).
So, yeah... A Crossover would be quite good for overall playability, though a full mmofps would be more desirable for realistic portrayal of the table top (namely the vehicles since they're hard to balance in an rpg environment... Either they're grossly overpowered for lower levels or quite useless at level cap). There are already examples of MMOFPS with advancement (like planetside), and heck, most of the last generation FPSs have progression elements in them... Unlocks, classes, sometimes even special abilities (Like crysis 2).
That said, vigil games developed darksiders which has a very good playability and GREAT visuals, so I don't expect any less from dark millenium... OFC a MMOG is a completely different thing in terms of balance so it may end up as a very beautiful, playble but completely unfun piece of crap. Automatically Appended Next Post: Zyllos wrote:Just hope they decide that more than 2 sides is the key a successful WH:40k game.
It'd be fun but I expect them to go the WAR route... Two sides with multiple factions. Presumably imperium + eldar and chaos + something, perhaps orks, perhaps dark eldar. I strongly hope not... While it made sense, up to a point at least, for the WHFB version, it does not make sense for dark millenium... Though vigil games has already surprised me by chosing black templars as the main chapter in dark millenium, perhaps we can hope for more surprises (Not that I particularly like BTs, but at least it's not the Ultrasmurfs)
