time to be honest people, what unit got you into warhammer? what inspired you to open your wallet then pick up that paint brush?

honestly while ive never owned one it has to be the chaplin personally, its the skull faced monster amoung other monsters that really stood out to me (can you deny that space marines arn't mosnters in human form? :3 )

My friend got me into it, mainly by describing the norn queen to me. I thought it was the coolest thing ever, until I realized Chaos was way cooler, and started playing. I bought AOBR and a chaos land raider, and was on my way

The unit that got me into it was eldar harlequins. My mate had them and I only collected Lotr at the time, and they made me look up an think what am I doing without pistols and power weapons??

What first got me into 40k was the wraithlord. I saw an epic-scale model of it and thought it was awesome.

What got me into my guard army was the basilisk. I had a bad experience back in the day with MSM units, and I wanted something that could easily smear Tau.

What got me into CSM was doing the math on practically every unit you could give a MoK to (and berzerkers), and realising just how frigging much face they could beat.

Other Dreadnaughts should just go somewhere and be a toaster.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

What got me into Warhammer: the 3rd edition rule-book and the Iron warriors Chaos space marine squad.

What got me into IG: The Leman Russ, sexiest MBT in the game, and i can field nine of them.

What got me into Dark Eldar: Lellith Helsprix and her ilk, after watching her and a unit of blood brides tear through an IG blob in double-quick time.

haha, the first game i ever saw at games workshop was between ultramarines and plague marines well the end of the battle, there was about 6 zombie monstatys left (sorry i dont really know the name of chaos units) that were serounding a tatical marine, a sargent and a chaplin, while they managed to dispatch 3 of the foul creatures that turn the sargent and tatical died, leaving 3v 1, the chaplin then turned around hitting and wounding and winning the match (it was 5 years ago so excuse me if its not quite correct, my memory is fairly good mind you) but that left me with a general love of the game, but a few years before i could actually afford any

Crisis suits. mecha battlesuits of death ftw. Seriously, that "Dynamic Entry" picture someone posted on this forum awhile back cracks me up everytime, as that is exactly how I envision crisis suits working.

The first models I saw were Lizardmen skinks with bows in WFB 5th edition. The models that made me get into 40k were the current line of Eldar Guardians which I think came out in 3rd. They still look like some of the best troop choices IMO

I got the metal captain from 3rd ed 40k, along with a Space Marine biker. Those were my first two 40k models, and things slowly snowballed until they got to where they are today.

I first got into it because of the LOTR line, then slowly began to turn my eyes towards 40K and WHFB. I liked the look of the Tau but one of my other friends who was starting an army was collecting them already and suggested that I switch to Space Wolves (thank God). So, I bought a Wolf Guard Terminator Sergeant, and he's been my Wolf Lord (and namesake) ever since. I also started a Lizardmen army sometime after, but it's very much still a WIP.

Probably like a lot of people on here, I grew up a fantasy and sci-fi geek all throughout my childhood. I first got into WFB and my first models was a blister pack of metal High Elf archers. From there I naturally gravitated towards 40K.

Marine with a Heavy Bolter.

Shame that BT don't have dev squads and shame that the HB is not such a great weapon to kit a squad out with.

One day when I get a second army I'll get a dev squad with HB, I don't care what people will say. To me they just look cool.

Space Human Armor guys were definitely cool, but I said, "I wanna play something unique"

So I bought 2 Boxes of the old Boyz kit and a Metal Warboss =D

They all lie in shambles =(

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Buzzard's Knob

The very first thing I bought for 40K was the old box set of plastic Orks, with all the plasma goodness. (Those where the days when Flash Gitz ruled! Plasma guns, plasma cannons, a nob in 'eavy armor with a kustom mega blaster, a bigboss in mega-armor also with a kustom mega-blaster, back when they absolutely ruled.)
The models that got me into collecting Eldar were the Howling Banshees, absolutely barbaric but graceful at the same time.
Then there were the Chaos Space Marine Terminators. So much bling... (3+ save on 2D6 wasn't exactly hard to say not to either...)
I almost started a Tyranid army because of the Trygon, until I realized how easy they were to kill. (Goooo Meganobs, 6, big bugs 0)
