The New Tomb King Army Book Is Closed To Being Released, What Do You Guys think Of Them?

The Models are Interesting But Only The Necrosphinx And Sepulchral Stalkers Stand Out. I Think We'll See Lots Of 40K Chaos Conversions.

Why Are You Using Capital Letters? I Find It Very Odd.

I think it looks very nice, i hope i can replicate the gold they've done on the GW website.

Not sure if it gells well with the rest of the army but it is what made me decide to start tomb kings.

Even though their rules suck

I like the new models. I do not think the big guys are as cool as the Arachnarok, but the Sphinx is still a nice model. The am very much a fan of the knights and spectres. I may end up putting the knights on the ground next to the serpent rather than riding on top of it. I have not seen the TG in person but they look OK in the book.

The new book has many failings, but I would not say that the new rules suck.

As a genuinely interested starting collector this is more my concern that most others.

Whether this book will let me compete is one thing--and not really worth discounting! I love this aspect of 40k.

My draw to Fantasy itself has been questionable, which is strange as I would catagorize myself as prefering the genre of Fantasy to Sci-Fi in every other instance I have found.
Tomb Kings drew me in the more I read of their play style, theme, rules, army book, and models.

Of that list . . . a few models remain.

Ouch.

Although I would say that their book does not suck, they do not appear to be a top tier army. The army still crumbles if the Heirophant dies. This can be a major problem as there is no way to hide him. Lots of spells let people pick out characters.

Yeah...

Tomb Kings Skeletons: 4pts each.
Vampire Counts Skeletons: 8PTS EACH WITHOUT SPEARS???????

I may just become a counts-as TK player, on account of the unavoidable fact that VC suck.

Was looking at the book today in my FLGS and have to admit, at first I preferred the NecroSphinx, but now I am really liking the Warsphinx more.

Between the option for a breath attack, placing a template into combat, 4 base str 5 attacks, and then tacking on thunderstomp... that momma can do some damage! That also does not count the TG throwing attacks into combat.

But, putting my excitement aside, I feel like those new monsters, as well as the new Usabti options or the Stalkers, will all suffer a similar fate to other monsters/ MI in 8th...

I quite like the new models myself. I prefer the Warsphinx over the Necrosphinx, and I prefer the Stalker over the Knights, and the Tomb Guards looks sweet, but their price is not. I'll still get at least 1 of each of those kit

As for the book, the sad part is that most existing units were downgraded to some extend, or left in their uselessness states. Heavy Cavalry is still horrible despite their points reducion, Ushabti got the nerfbat (like they needed it), the Scorpion lost a lot of it's utiliity, etc.

Fantasy armies - Retired (Tomb Kings, Vampires, Empire, Chaos Warriors/Daemons, Dark Elves)

Tyranids army - Ever evolving, but about 10k pts
Custodes - 3,500pts (Fully painted yay!)
Thousand Sons - 4,000 pts
Eldar - 3,000pts

The models are great, but until I fully understand the rules I'm not too sure yet.

However, 4 point Skeletons is just beans, really.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Meanwhile, my 30 VC skellies get hacked up even with a vampire in the front row.

That's what I want to know, too. They seem to have actually gotten better to me.

Also, the Warsphinx is a pain to put the howdah on.

They look pretty sick, too bad I already play Dark Elves or I'd totes go for them. The expense of the book is what really puts me off though

It's worth it. Much better quality than the previous books.

I am a Tomb kings player. At first I was very concerned about the standard codex model of "nerfing certain models from the codex and ubering others", essentially forcing you to buy newer models to be competitive. After reading the Codex, I was so pleasantly surprised that I could field my army -as is-!

To me this is so very important as now I can now buy both of the sphinxes to paint instead of buying models so I can play my game style. Not sure if I'll use the sphinxes in game but I'll definitely paint them.

Adam's Motto: Paint, Create, Play, but above all, have fun. -and for something silly below-

"We are the Ultramodrines, And We Shall Fear No Trolls. bear this USR with pride".

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

My understanding is that the complaint is that they are dropped to Str 4. You can get back to Str 6 with great weapons, but it hurts them on stomp and the ability to swing at initiative.

I can see that, I guess(especially since Kings are S5). That didn't bother me since, as you pointed out, GWs get them to S6, the option for dual weapons if you want Init swings, the option for S6 bows, and the fact that I tend to forget that MI have Stomp.

arn't they T5 still? with T5 swinging last isn't a huge deal. isn't their inititive just about average?

Ushabti were and are T4 with 5+ armor. They dropped 15 points but went from S6 base, I3, S6 stomp to S6, (functionally) I1, S4 stomp - IMO that's a fairly steep hit, but 50 points a pop is a little easier to stomach I suppose. What's interesting is that the ahw or bows are straight swaps with the free great weapon, so some cost-benefit analysis to be done on what role your ushabti will play (if any). I still wonder about those uber-bows. Originally it seemed like a bad idea to me - what's a combat unit doing not-marching and twanging out a few shots? - but knowing they can't march anyway and have the always-hit-on-5+ rule too I'm intrigued. I still don't think a smattering of S6 shots means much, but the ushabti carrying the bow is still a big ogre-y dude. Of course, is 300 points worth it for 6 hot S6 shots? Ehhhhhh probably not!

They also gained command.

Still wish there was a way to make them(or some sort of Construct) Core.
