Hi all,

Just thought I'd post this as I tried to go to Warseer just now and it brought up loads of trojan virus warnings on my Kaspersky anti-virus. To be precise it was 3 virus's and 1 Trojan before I managed to close the window.

Can anyone else confirm this.

Cara

If anything, Warseer is down right now for me.

Yeah, I opened up a bunch of tabs in the morning one day, and my computer went nuts and did all kinds of stuff. It even disabled my task manager (I'm the administrator, but it said the administrator did it). I eventually just did a system restore when I was regained some control, but it was quite off-putting.

The kicker is that I rarely ever go there (or even here) anymore.

Is this really news anymore? These days it seems that the real news would be "Warseer NOT firing viruses at you left, right and center"...

It has progressed from weekly to almost every other day.

It appears that they are using an exploit in the banner ads.

That sucks. I feel a lot of sympathy for all the sites which don't have Lego or someone with similar ninja skills as their admin.

Those banner ad exploits seem to be particular bastards.

LOL I think this deserves them right. Treating people differently over there. They keep banning people while other it's ok thier own can do it to others.

I guess it's Karma, what comes around goes around.

It doesn't matter what OS you use, Warseer itself is the target of these attacks and it's unfortunately down. PCs, Macs, and Linux users all can't access a downed site. However, the difference between PC users and Mac/Linux users is that we don't have to compensate for our OS with smugly irrelevant comments.

The administrator did do it. The virus, using your administrator account, took control of your computer. This would be a good reason to finally stop running as administrator!

Don't gloat too much.

Warseer may have been attacked first because it has a greater profile than other sites.

I hope the MODs here are on the case already to stop a repeat on Dakka

Yeah, Warseer's down and will stay that way probably until May. The guys at Warseer have very reasonably not charged their advertisers for April's service given the challenges they've been facing.

Speaking as both a gamer and as a corporate sponsor of Warseer, I've always found their management to be professional and helpful and feel certain that they will be able to pick the forum back up and set it on its feet stronger and safer than ever.

Dont worry about that, lego is more than capable of keeping us all safe, happy, and malware free

We OSX users like to be smug whenever we can. It's not our fault PC users choose to use an unstable OS.

Ah, so that's why Google was going nuts yesterday. Thought it was a false positive, but decided to wait it out. Besides... why on Earth would someone go after Warseer? It's a well known forum, granted, but catering for a very specific group of people. Strange.

So you're not using a Personal Computer?
You don't have to be smug to other OS users especially when you use a proprietary OS that is no better than the one you bash, contrary to popular belief Mac OS can crash and does just like Windows 7.
Between a proprietary OS with little compatibility and arrogant commercials and one that offers compatibility and similar stability I would use the later.
All in all most OS have their pros and cons and you can have very good reasons to whichever you choose.

Now back on topic, going to Warseer in the recent weeks has gotten me to infect some school computers with virii, good thing is we have competent tech support and up to date anti-virus software so all is fine.
All in all I am not going back to Warseer without a Linux system before a long while.
BTW all infections I found came from Warseer.com the homepage and never the forum.

Unless you guys are hosting the site at Legoburners house (or someone else's place and NOT using a hosting company) you're just as vulnerable to it. We had about 30 of our websites get hammered with this crap, turns out it was on the hosting company's side of things, and there was nothing we could do to fix it, but wait on them.

OSX has its fair share of bugs and security issues, just as many as Windows. Problem is there isn't enough people using Macs to justify writing malware targeting them. I will feel REALLY bad for users like you when they do, because there are almost no tools to help remove that crap from OSX when you do get it. (Posted from a MacBook Pro)
