Jokaero are an Imperial protectorate, who create things such as digital weapons for the Imperium.

Not sure how long this has been, but I reckon at least third edition.

Rogue Trader days.

Besides, the surveys indicate that everything is better with monkeys.

I admit, I'm a little taken aback too, but the model is impressive.

Subhumans are often employed by the IoM. Ogryns, ratlings, and others are examples of this.

Although it may be more likely that they are used by Grey Knights in the same way that Inquisitors use "unconventional methods." They are above suspicion.

Really?
This has popped up a few times in the past month or so...
If you managed to miss the new codex coming out then fair enough (you're actually pretty lucky since you missed all the new codex complaining) but don't question the monkeys...

Unless they're useful, that is usually the case.

Yup, monkeys have tails and apes don't. Well, that and many other differences.

I think the Imperial stance on Jokaero is that they are more like animals than sapient beings, so they don't fall under the "burn them" catagory. They just happen to be animals who are instinctively good with technology.

Jokero have been around since the Rogue Trader days at the very start, though I don't think they've been confirmed to be actively working with the Imperium until more recent.

In any regard them being a model in the Ordo Malleus army is pretty stupid and doesn't aesthetically fit. At the very least it should have been Ordo Xenos.

They're not in an Ordo Malleus army. They're in Codex: Grey Knights, but they're there as a part of the Inquisition as a whole... It's no longer a Malleus-only book. It's an Inquisition book that focusses on Grey Knights as the primary militant arm of the Inquisition.

So don't think of it like that, then.

Again, the monkey is nothing whatsoever to do with the Grey Knights. He is a part of the retinue of an Inquisitor. Inquisitors are not solely devoted to fighting against Chaos, and their retinues commonly include relative non-combatants who are useful in other ways.

The thing that appears to be hanging people up is simply the title of the codex. It's called 'Codex: Grey Knights'... but as I said a minute ago, it's not solely an Ordo Malleus codex. It's an Inquisition codex, with a primary focus on Grey Knights.

Since 1987.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Technically imperial scholars aren't sure if jokaero are even sentient, let alone intelligent, so it may be they just see it as like having a dog who happens to know a few good tricks - namely creating weaponry.

Well they are sentient, most things are. Sentience is consciousness: the ability to understand signals, interpret them, learn them, and use them. Most things on earth are sentient. Sapience is the ability to think abstractly about the world, to search for meaning instead of purpose.

Actually they are a Xeno race. Mat Ward thought that the organisation responsible to cleanse the Imperium of all Xeno scum should hire Xenos themself and that there is no need to explain why.

Jokeros were invented in crazy early Rogue trader days around the pun "digital weapons" (=weapons hidden in fingers=digits!). Base of their background is that they are technical geniusses in a MacGyver style and that no Imperial can communicate with them, tame them or imprison them. So they seemed like prime candidates for tamed team players to Mat Ward. But then again, according to him Grey Knights resisted the temptation of the Blood God by slaughering Sororitas and bathing in their blood. Yeah sure!
