So been checking out some web links and the duty rumour has it that an announcement is due soon, perhaps next week, with reference to the new Modern Warfare game. Apparently the chap who voiced Gaz and Ghost has been letting slip he has been in LA doing some big things. The scuttlebutt is that this one will be a prequel starring friend Ghost.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/299892/modern-warfare-3-announcement-coming-this-week/

I am quite looking forward to it really - I hope the new developers have the same quality as old Infinity Ward. I didn't think much of Black Ops really; I didn't think it had the same magic, or je ne sais quoi of the MW series. I don't know, I like the whole alternative time line/world that they built - I somehow found it a little more believable than assassinating Castro or Russian figments. Yes, the story was a bit cheesy and the single player in MW2 was way too short but I thought it was a blast.

Thoughts? Reckon this'll be good or a massive let-down?

Well yes, but the same could be said for pretty much any series of games. Doesn't stop one enjoying a game of FIFA though...

Not true, Bioshock has taken five years to get a (true) sequel, Halo takes much longer to make, along with Oblivion.

I just don't see the appeal of shelling out $60 yearly for the same exact game, that just kills the experiances, in my humble opinion. Having said this, I shall leave the thread since it's more for those who DO enjoy blindly giving Activision their money.

(P.S. I didn't have the heart to include Duke Nukem in the first part )

Meh, MW3. boring. I thought they were going to make a sci-fi game.

Battlefield 2142 has Sci-fi, no females though, and of course you do say that you hate their vehicle system. Otherwise its a good sci-fi one.

If Modern Warfare 3 is made by treyarch(which I hope not seeing as though it means they only had 1 year to work on it) it may have a female character in multiplayer. Treyarch broke the sausage link with Sarah Michelle Gellar.

There is females in my Black ops?? NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Anywho, MW3 should be interesting I think, but with Infinity Ward no longer existing within Activision then it will probly be left to Treyarch. To be honest most of Treyarch games have been subpar at best with Black Ops being the best. MW2 is the best in the COD series so far.

That would be a nice change to the franchise

As for Modern Warfare 3 - get new graphic. They use same graphic for Call of Duty 2,3,4,5,6 and 7. they just improve a little every single game.
And I hope this will be more fun than Black Ops, that CoD was total failure in the series ( I like the story tough )...
Still for me the first CoD was the best...With all realism and health system

Financially speaking, Black Ops is probably the most successful FPS game in history.

I think you may be thinking of Respawn Mel. Pretty sure a sci-fi shooter was one of the ideas West and Zampella said they wanted to do but that Activision said "No. Clone Call of Duty again." So chances are Respawn may have one as their first game (assuming West and Zampella didn't pull it out their bums, I only hate Activision slightly more than I hate those two).

Ah respawn, giving Infinity Ward a chance to make games on their own. I personally didn't think Infinity Ward was all that, sure they came up with some new ideas but they were broken as all get out. Not to mention the lack of dedicated servers in MW2.

What do you think the tagline for this game will be?

Modern Warfare 3: More Modern
Modern Warfare 3: Contemporary Conflict
Modern Warfare 3: Temporally Relevant Military Engagements

I also want to know what happened to Space Warfare, Stealth Warfare, Secret Warfare, and all the other silly names they bought up.

"Order. Unity. Obedience. We taught the galaxy these things, and we shall do so again."
"They are not your worst nightmare; they are your every nightmare."

I want a vietnam-era Call of Duty.

There is a sore lack of good Vietnam War-related videogames. COD has already beaten the modern era to death, a futuristic COD would seem a bit too out-of-character for the series, and Vietnam is definitely my favorite armed conflict of all time (not to sound too morbid or anything).

At least they aren't going back to World War 2, but even then, videogames have seen a massive shift from having only WW2-era shooters to having only modern shooters. If you're going to represent a real conflict, at least represent one that hasn't already been bled dry.

Pain is an illusion of the senses, Despair an illusion of the mind.

There's always the Civil War and Revolutionary War. Although, I would buy another WW2 shooter if it had a German or Japanese soldier as the character. My friend and I decided that while it may not be acceptable by some, playing as a german soldier during D-Day would be pretty fun. Not because you're gunning down a bunch of american, british, or canadian troops but because you know that you're going to lose. I would also like to see the following in a WW2 game: Invasion of Poland, Battle of Dunkirk, Invasion of France, and the Invasion of Stalingrad from the European theater. The Pacific theater is a bit iffy, but there's a lot of potential to use british, american, and Japanese troops. Hell, a small mission where you play as one of the flying tigers would be cool.

Black Ops also has the first playable female character in the CoD series, and Freddy Krueger, and Machete, and George Romero, and some other guy who was in Walking Dead.

And Black Ops is totally fictional.

What Chrysaor likely means is Call of Duty going back to its roots and actually portraying key events during the campaign.

Probably because WWI was nothing but bolt action rifles and trench warfare (similar to why there's never been a high budget civil war game) and the Korean War is the nerd on the playground no one cares about.

Call of Duty: Black Ops also jumps around a lot and requires a huge amount of suspension of disbelief. It's not very grounded in the reality of the Vietnam War at all. Weapons, blind guerilla warfare, the incredibly hostile environment, and actual historical events are not accurately represented whatsoever, and the game is not based completely in Vietnam at all. I want a game that represents the Vietnam War as accurately as possible, not a fictional espionage thriller that touches down in Vietnam briefly. Vietnam-based multiplayer would also be awesome, and Black Ops did not provide it.

It's probably the closest the series will ever come (because of the overall negative reception of Black Ops), which is unfortunate.

Kanluwen wrote:And yet...WWI would be a fantastic campaign.

Since the majority of the first World War was stalemate trench warfare carried on for months on end, this would require a lot of creativity on the developer's part to actually make things interesting from a gaming standpoint. This is probably why World War 2 was such a popular setting for so long; it provided all of the 'best' aspects of World War I and then some.

Then again, wars are always embellished in games, so they could probably figure something out.

The Korean War was similar to Vietnam, but the setting and method of warfare (as well as some of the weapon technology) were not nearly as interesting as Vietnam. The Korean War is also basically overlooked as a source of societal outrage. So therefore, World War I is to World War II as The Korean War is to The Vietnam War.

As for the Civil War, I've always wanted a good Civil War game, but I don't think Call of Duty is the series for that. Same goes with the Revolutionary War (which also sort of acts as the 'less interesting' Civil War in a sense).

True...But not one CoD have "best FPS ever" stat.

From Wikipedia: "The game has won over 50 Game of the Year awards."
and: "is not just one of the best games of the year. It's one of the best games of any year, an instant classic that is miles better than any of its immediate competition, and - in its single-player form - is the best shooter since the original Doom"
and: "GameSpot inducted Half-Life into their "Greatest Games of All Time" list in May 2007"
and: " GameSpy held a Title Fight, in which readers voted on what they thought was the "greatest game of all time", and Half-Life was the overall winner of the survey."
and: "April 2005 issues of PC Gamer, Half-Life was named "Best Game of All Time"/"Best PC Game Ever.""

When it comes to games, CoD is the game that was sold most within the week...
But when it comes to Legasy and playing, you see Warcraft and Starcraft...
And when it comes to best FPS ever - Half Life
Best strategy of all time - Starcraft
Best RPG of all times - Diablo II

I know, I'm not saying that CoD was great. Or even good. Just that it is amazingly successful. Kinda like starcrap, it's the popular game as opposed to the quality one, it's popular... but it's nowhere close to the best game in its genre.

And no, Starcrap is not the best strategy game of all time. It wasn't even the best game of its decade. It wasn't even the best game of its YEAR. So many RTS games have surpassed starcrap in terms of quality of gameplay, quality of story, and quality of production (And all three at the same time!) that such statements are facepalm inducing.

Diablo II was a fun little timewaster, but it was by far NOT the best RPG of all time, thank you very much, I'll take a REAL rpg instead.

And while I'm a huge fan of the Half Life series, I have to say TF2 by far exceeds it as far as multiplayer gaoes, and its sequel exceeds it as far as single player goes. And I wouldn't even necessarily say those are the best games ever in their genre.

No, I was referring to Black Ops, which made a billion dollars by week one. And that's ALL I was referring to.

You may not like it, but Black Ops was more successful than CoD:MW2.

Doesn't mean that it's a better game. Just that it sold more. Kinda like starcrap-- sure it sold more, but quite frankly when comparing it to anything produce in the year 2000 and onward it's one of the worst RTS games ever made (only Seven Kingdoms Conquest comes to mind as actually outright inferior to starcrap).
