http://blog.movies.yahoo.com/blog/1322-those-idiotic-jive-talkin-robots-wont-be-back-in-transformers-3-after-all?nc

So much about "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen" was horrible that picking a least favorite moment is like choosing between your children, if you kinda hated your children. But you really can't fall much farther than "Mudflap" and "Skids," the "urban" robots that, as The New York Times' Manohla Dargis' rightly said, "have been given conspicuously cartoonish, so-called black voices that indicate that minstrelsy remains as much in fashion in Hollywood as when, well, Jar Jar Binks was set loose by George Lucas." Director Michael Bay defended Mudflap and Skids (who, in the year 2009, had gold teeth and bug ears), claiming, "We're just putting more personality in. I don't know if it's stereotypes -- they are robots, by the way. These are the voice actors. This is kind of the direction they were taking the characters and we went with it."

But even Bay is smart enough to avoid more controversy while he can, claiming Monday on the official Michael Bay fan board -- oh, by the way America, there are Michael Bay fan boards -- that the twins will not appear in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."

A fan blog tried to get fired up that Bay was lying, with reports that new and "improved" versions of Mudflap and Skids were seen on the set yesterday, but they have the date wrong on the post; the post they're referencing is more than a year old. So it looks like there will not in fact be awful stereotypes of African-Americans as portrayed by robots from an alien planet in the third "Transformers" movie. In Michael Bay's brain, perhaps this is considered progress.

The Twins Are Not Back In T3 [MichaelBay.com]

Well they were dreadful and highly suspect.

But perhaps most worrying was the revelation that michael bay has a fansite. Perhaps our culture is truly beyond saving.

Take everything Bay says about his movies at face value, he's known amongst the fandom for his attempts at misinformation that turn out to be blatant lies.

As Ketara points out, not only are the Twins given new paint jobs, they're given new toys and have been seen participating at various shoots throughout last year. The only way for them to not be in the movie is if they're completely edited out.

That said, it's not like the Wreckers being stereotypical Nascar fans(one has a mullet, one has a trucker cap, the last has a freaking beer belly) and getting personalities to match(they're all mechanics who love guns, yeeehaw!) is really any better. Also, don't forget the Decepticon Dreads and their dreadlocks despite attempting to ALSO homage the Insecticons(infamous in G1 for their munchies) at the same time.

Pics for the uninitiated:

they are in the film
they've been toned down from ROTF"

We had this "news" months earlier and discussed it back then on TF sites and decided it was bunk back then. This only confirmed months of us knowing Bay was up to the kind of stunts he tried to pull the past 2 times.

Never believe the man, he lies despite all evidence to the contrary because he thinks that's how misinformation works.

I don't understand why people hate Transformers 2 so much. Myself, like the guy on AICN, was totally not interested in the transformers back in the 80's, so I guess that I had no predetermined ideas how they should turn out. It's a bunch of CGI action figures and a hot chick in a movie that shouldn't be retained in your mind for more than a week. That's all.

Agreed. I LOVED TFs in the 80's and I still liked RotF. It's a fun movie that's very reminiscent of watching Saturday morning cartoons: mindless entertainment that you sit and have fun with for 2 hours. Playing with toys during it is optional.

No, but the pics at that link will give you a sense of how much skin you see. You get more than in Transformers, to the best of my recollection. She's not a particular fave of mine, but HtLFaAP kind of stood out in the memory.

Because there's more to directing an action move than 'Make stuff explode! Do we still have money in the budget? Then make more stuff explode! When we run out of money for explosions then pad the whole thing with low brow jokes and images of a girl in really tight clothing. I smell a $200 million opening weekend!'

There's actually a lot of skill in making a good action movie, and particularly in telling the story of a good action scene. Watch the Empire's attack on Hoth in ESB or the battle with the cavetroll in LotR, and see how get an appreciation for the geometry of the area, and a feel for why every character is acting as they are acting. Then watch the climax of RotF again, and consider how it's nothing more than an incoherent mess of explosions.

For those of us that like good action movies, with or without transformers, that kind of matters.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
