What are some of the worst video game communities you have ever encountered?

For me its the entire Garrys Mod community(seriously those ass holes on face punch are the worst and except their rag doll comics to be taken seriously as a form of art) and any competitive part of every gaming community

WoW is definitely up there (along with being a gakky game, it has a gakky community). But I think Combat Arms has an equally bad community.

Lord of the Rings online has some bad eggs, but Bree chat is always fun.

Other than that, the CoD community. Its either frat boys or prebuscent males, the difference being Frat boys have a deeper voice.

Some of the more "realistic" shooters have pretty unfriendly and elitist communities. Arma 2, Insurgency Mod for Halflife 2, and Project: Reality Mod for Battlefield 2 come to mind.

Man, Arma 2's community is full of overbearing gakfethers who could be mistaken for trash, but that would be an insult to garbage... I completely forgot about them (intentionally).

The community with Halo 2 turned me a way from playing that game online as well as the third iteration. WoW's community can get pretty fething crazy.

Not a specific game but generally speaking, it seems hardcore fans of the fighting genre are rather ridiculous.

I'd say that fighting games are about half and half; they have horrendous douchebags that will trash talk you over their mic at any given opportunity, but there are also plenty of courteous people willing to help you out however they can. I've also never had a bad experience with a live tournament (anonymity goes a long way).

Call of Duty, Halo, WoW, and every free MMO I've played (excluding LOTRO) come to mind.

I sense you've had a less than pleasant experience with the community as well? I remember once getting crap from my squad leader for breaking formation to set up some M2 SLAMS on our right flank. They ended up coming in handy when a T72 immobilized itself taking the long route. =/

Remember not all of a particular community is bad. Sometimes it is just the server you are on.

Consoles are a different monster all together.

Gears of War is pretty bad. Left 4 Dead and Counterstrike are some of the worst I have been on.

WoW was pretty bad, part of the reason I left. CoD and Halo are also really terrible. I actually refuse to buy any more of those games just so I don't have to see those guys at the store.

Runescape was the game that raised me to distrust strangers in video games. That community was really the worst. I couldn`t even pass through a town without getting insulted at least twice

To say the least.

They're one of the least pleasant, if not THE least pleasant FPS communities I've ever encountered. Sure there's some good people in there, like there is for every game, but most of htem seem to be chauvinistic douchebags with such a strong belief in their own superiority that everyone that isn't part of their little clique is a worthless noob to be ridiculed.

I'd take counterstrike or even CoD over them any day.

And why is editing messed up? Every time I've edited recently it's posted twice instead.

I love Halo, but the community sucks, always a little kid or a douche over the mike most of the time :/.

COD is an okay game, but the community is the worst. I mean, pro gamers who say they got their through lots of game play, but in reality they joined a hacked lobby .

CoD and Halo (well any competitive FPS) have horrible communities, whether its the idiot college kid who thinks he is a bad ass, or the 13 year old who thinks he is so cool dropping the F bomb every third word.

WoW has a very elitist community, you could be 1 or 2 "points" under them and they still act like they are vastly superior.

LoL and HoN have very immature and gakky communities also.

Sometimes I really think people on these games forget that they were a newb once. They berate and harass new players like crazy instead of helping them get better, it's really kind of sad.

A proper solution for online console gaming is to play with your friends. you'll never have to deal with gakky players ever again

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

Combat Arms was the worst I have played when it comes to the community. Just absolutely terrible. CoD was pretty bad, up until me and the friends that I play with just make a 6 man (or 5 man, 1 woman) party and stay in party chat. Problem solved.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

I'd say WoW is a hard one to judge. You have a population numbers that if Blizzard are to be believed out strip most other online games by a large margin. It was a quarter of what was LIVE's online user base if you compared them in the early part of last year. So you are going to get muppets, just because of the numbers you are dealing with.

It's also hard as some Realm servers are a lot worse than others, and then factions on top of that can be really good fun to play amongst on one server and utterly rubbish on another.

It's definately a case on how lucky was your first pick when looking up and down the realm list.

WoW varied from realm-to-realm, but generally, Alliance players were the better community. They're more childish than Horde, and are easier to ignore or simply silence with a smart comment, which makes them easier to deal with overall.

My experience with Horde, however, is a bunch of hardcore, 24/7 elitists who all believe they're the second coming of Christ and that you must tend to their every whim and follow their every command, or else you suffer a tirade of abuse every second you're online. Since the Mods do little, if anything, to stop it, you're basically forced to relocate realms or switch to alliance until you're forgotten about.

Not every realm is like this, and not every player is like this, but it was my experience.

Halo wasn't as bad, but the presence of voice made it seem terrible. There's nothing worse than having a 12-year old kid screaming and raging in a voice high enough to shatter glass, especially if he can't play for gak; "Oh my god, you cheater, how'd I die?" "You stood in front of him and he stuck you with a plasma grenade." "What the feth, grenades can't stick, they're all fething cheaters." "...Plasma grenades do stick..." "OH MY FETHING GOD SHUT THE FETH UP YOU FETHING-" *mute*

Semi-deafness after every game was part of the reason why I stopped playing multi-player.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Yeah I also like how on WoW there was the name change service, but the player ID would remain the same...

There was always that vengeful asshat that would pull your player ID and advertise that you name changed when the whole reason you did it was to start over.

Every game?
Surely every online game, has complete *insert suitable phrase here* playing?

I never really noticed WoW being any worse than any other game.. (Didn't play it much, mainly just played with a couple of friends, who both had top level characters, so wanted to play them, rather than their low level ones with me )

WoW can actually be half decent if you talk to no one and never visit the forums. But then you're kind of missing the point of an MMO

LoL isn't as bad if you aren't playing ranked, but HoN is just obnoxious.
