Hi,
Thank you for your email. The imperial trench system has been discontinued and we no longer have any stock left of this kit.

Thanks,

Probably never sold well enough to make another mold out of it. It is always a shame when stuff disappears though even if interest in it was relatively low.

It's been gone for almost a year now. Most of their terrain is going that way, the molds are too expensive to maintain and the demand has never been enough to justify it.

GW themselves was their biggest "customer" for terrain, for the most part.

Ahh take it off the site already then guys. If people can't buy it and you're never going to restock it don't just leave it sit there with an out of stock button on it.

I think it'll depend on how well the one for IA11 does.

I would be surprised if they didn't though.

Armorcast makes a pretty decent trench set that's actually pretty affordable.

That's what I was thinking. I can't really imagine that anyone save GW themselves would buy such a monstrosity. I don't believe I've ever seen any FW terrain outside of the occasional store.

Yeah... Armorcast's is actually for sale!

(Nice guys, BTW... met them briefly at GenCon last year where they were selling models that were totally, in no way, reminiscent of a much-beloved robotic character from Futurama.)

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Actually I own some FW terrain.. I have 2 pieces of their 40k roads, 1 straight and 1 turn. I didn't buy them though.. I bought a wave serpent upgrade kit way back when that was the only wave serpent available (and still looks better than the GW with antennae sticking out the sides) and they sent me those road pieces too for some reason. Nice bonus, but they're still sitting at the bottom of a box, unpainted and left for dead.

Those trench systems were really nice but for the price and effort needed to build them into a board it wasn't really worth it.

Realm of battle trench sections are one of the few things that might convince me to buy one of the things.

I bought some forgeworld terrain a while back. I got the imperial missile silo (actually taken off the site! That old!) It's great... except for the bubble in the top which was full of uncured resin. Been sitting unpainted in a box because I don't know how to fix it.

Back on topic, why haven't they taken the items off of the website? About half of the items in the terrain section of forgeworld are out of stock. How many of those will ever come back in stock?

Don't quote me 100% on this, but I've been chatting with them about that very thing.

Basically, they're trying to find a way to produce them en masse without suffering the kinds of mishaps they were having with the kits originally. If they can find a way to 'plasticize' them, they just might come back.

Interest probably would have been good but for the price. It was quite expensive to do any kind of trench system large enough to look convincing. It's a shame because it was a really cool piece, but most hobbyists won't spend that kind of money just on scenery, if they're going to blow big bucks like that they'd rather buy another cool tank, Titan, etc.

You could buy another army for what FW scenery costs. So yeah, I'm not really surprised, either.

Interesting, but still impractically expensive. For the price of a decent-sized trench system, I could buy enough insulation foam and other supplies to make enough game boards and scenery to last my whole life. Not only that, but some serious concerns have been raised about the properties of the finecast resin. No point of buying a bunker if it's going to melt in the summer heat.

Basically, the way that they're looking at doing them is porting over the resin kits to plastic, not Finecast.

They're batting around the possibility of setting them up so that they come built into a Realm of Battle Board section, like the Strongpoint they showed off at their Open Day and which has yet to materialize on preorder.

I mentioned it before, but maybe it is of interest here as well:
All Tyranid terrain is permanently discontinued. New moulds would make the items cost triple and FW is not doing this.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I prefer the armorcast tranches, thwey look like trenches rather than slit fortifications.

The forgeworld trenches are concrete lined pre-prepared positions, which suit some aspects of trench warfare but are less 'versatile' than miniatures for wood lined dugouts which could be pre-prepared trenches or hasty defences.

Concrete lined trenches are a reality but normally attached to a fortress network. A section of the Western front was made this way, the Hindenburg line, but to make that the Germans had to build their trenches behind lines across a salient and then fall back to it afterwards surrendering some territory.

Also Forgeworld trenches are dug in, to use them you needs a foamboard and cuts outs. while this makes 'real' trenches with a negative elevation it also restricts usage again.
So you are restricted to one type of trench defence and one type of board surface to make use of Forgeworld trenches. Armorcast trenches can make any type of trench line hastily prepared or permenant and can lay across a normal table surface. A much better buy IMHO.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Well, I want the FW trenches because they look futuristic enough for 40k and because I could build / sink them INTO the terain.

Armorcast trenches are supposed to be put on top of a plain table. They have 90° corners and are ment to be lined up. Sure, they are useful because you can arrange them whatevery way you want them. But in my opinion it looks crap when the trenches are higher than the ground around.

I also like the idea that the Death Korps digg out trenches and re-renforce them with portable sections of trench walls from steel and concrete. They'd just need some hooks for a crane, maybe sunk in like on the top of the trench system bunker.

I just don't think that 40k trenches should have wooden slats as walls and floors. Looks stupid imho.

Did I say that I'd nead this for a big display where the trenches wouldn't be moved anyway ...?
