They said to us at the forge world open day that they are making more relm of battle board tiles with various scenery, they may recycle certain designs by integrating trenches etc.

Tiles seem to be the way they are going with terrain anyway, whci sort of makes sense as you dont have to carry round like 20 different pieces, just pop the tile into the batttle board case instead of a standard one when it suits you and off you go.

In the latest FW catalogue, there is a Realm of Battle extension board with what looks to be like an imperial emplacement with Hillside blastdoors, bunkers and tank traps. Description says it's made of "Hollow Resin". Underneath it says "Coming Soon"

I only gave this example because I recently made it for a mate, and it looks better than the FW offering.

All up, 2 hirst Arts moulds ($50) and 2 Kg of dental plaster $5...

$55 and a couple of hours of casting and then gluing... definitely not 200 GBP worth...

Does anybody remember when the FW Realm of Battle tile goes on sale? I can't find it on the site.

I'm not super familiar with resin, but wouldn't this be very prone to breakage?

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

You didn't heat treat the dental plaster before gluing? ( I love Bruce's stuff!)

Terrain is just one of those items that never sells in huge volume. So many people go the DIY route.

The idea was that it would be a normal plastic Realm of Battle tile with the terrain parts being 'hollow resin'.

May or may not have fixed a spelling error. *shiftyorkeyes*

Shame about the Tyranid terrain. Always liked that stuff. Ditto for the force-barrier pylons that came out for IA4.

This would be the Imperial Strongpoint that was sold at the Open Day and GD France this year - aparently due for general release in about 6 to 8 weeks. it's a single piece tile, completely hollow resin and it may be based on a RoB tile but it's certainly not one of those with some bits to glue on.

doubleT wrote:Well, I want the FW trenches because they look futuristic enough for 40k and because I could build / sink them INTO the terain.

Armorcast trenches are supposed to be put on top of a plain table. They have 90° corners and are ment to be lined up. Sure, they are useful because you can arrange them whatevery way you want them. But in my opinion it looks crap when the trenches are higher than the ground around.

If it's not below the ground it's not a trench, it's a low wall. The armorcast system could be easily stratchbuilt too as it lacks detail. Corrugated cardboard or styrene modelling sheets and some plaster is all you need. Trenches in a terrain are quite distinct from walls and I'd imagine they play quite differently too. LOS would change dramatically too.

H.M.B.C, for once I agree with you (which is unusual, given my GW fanboyism). I do wish they'd re-release the Tyranid terrain.

However, on the plus side, this could mean GW are releasing plastic versions instead.

I highly doubt that since you can't place them on the Realm of Cash board without serious modification.
