hi dakka i am llooking into playing the game and not just paint but their is one thing bugging me about it. to me the game is about rolling dice and moving minitures so kindal like chess with dice and to me thats as boring as tenth grade maths. so i asked the guy at gw and he said imaganation is the key however a necron warior cant use the same moves in every battle and when imaaganation is limited thats all you can come up with.
second thing what if your opponent is not very imanginitive
and last but not least why do peopple put their models in positions like attack and defense even if they are going to imagine it in a totaly different way please help me with your answers

If its boring then why do you play it? People like to pose models for fun and like to have models that stand out, it doesn't matter if that may not happen but still some may want to add variety.

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

OP, please work on your spelling and grammar. Your post is a slog to get through.

Your last question about posing models is mostly just because it looks cool. That is, unless I'm misunderstanding something about your post. People pose models in ways they think look good. I can still picture my Marines ducking behind cover or what have you even though their models are static.

However a Necron warrior can't use the same moves in every battle, and when imagination is limited, that is all you can come up with.

... I fixed it for you...

I'm under the impression that you paint the guys, and the game is a close second.

It may help you to go read one or two of the books of your chosen army, and get a little "Inspiration" for your Imagination.

It isn't just about pushing a few guys around and going pew pew, but it helps. It's more about just playing some straight up scraps and fighting a few firefights, and then you give your hero or Sergeant a name and give his figure a background.

After a few fights, your squad or unit can add in a couple of battle tropheys, such as the hand of a traitor, or the helmet, or head of an alien to thier uniform, or maybe a couple of guys with some extra alien trophys modeled onto them. AND then they go on to become YOUR army. Not just a couple of high speed Meeples.

I had a couple of guys that I gave names to, and added some background to, then started them on the road to infamy by modeling some helmets ands heads of a few of the other guys I fought, adding them to the battalion colors.

It takes a couple of games to figure out how to play, but then again, it isn't for everyone.

Hope that helps.

If I understand your post correctly (which is hard, given your grammar), then you're complaining that 40k seems boring.

If that's the case, then I advise you find a new hobby before you spend too much money on 40k, as it seems your experience will be distinctly unsatisfying. Imagination is the key, and if you doubt you can make playing and painting 40k 'fun', then this is probably not the game for you.

If your opponent isn't very imaginative...well, that's why you'll very quickly find out which members of your local community are fun to play with, and which aren't.

And people pose them like that because they like to. I've been known to swap out models on the table for the reason that 'this guy looks cooler than that guy'.

Maybe you aren't enjoying the game because you don't like any of the factions you tried? There are many different factions in the game, and some of which (Squats, Protoss, Khadors, the Lost and the Damned) get way more support then some of the others (like Space Marines, which are harder to find) and so you'll find more people willing to play with you if you try one of those.

40k is a pretty expensive game, so as others have said, you might want to quit if you find it boring now, because it's not substantially different later.

Yeah, I'm sick of the Lost and the Damned being the posterchildren of 40k. It's like they're on every other cover of White Squat.

You say that like a Decepticon vs Autobot game was EVER balanced. It's like the game was where the good guys and most popular side always wins.

Also, Optimus Prime is just plain broken!

And don't get me started on them adding Maximals(OVERPOWERED!) and not supplying us with the models we need to play Quintessons properly!
