Given how the first major 40K movie interpretation was Ultramarines, I think it's appropriate that their traditional nemesis gets centre stage. And being as the Tyranids are gribbly aliens, there's scope for it to be a slightly tongue-in-cheek B-movie homage. So how about the Doom of Malan'tai starring in Eldar On A Craftworld?
Enough is ENOUGH! I have had it with these motherfrakkin' Eldar on this
motherfrakkin' Craftworld!
Everybody strap in; I'm about to absorb some frakkin' souls!

I'm reading Death or Glory, the fourth Ciaphas Cain novel, and I've been thinking to myself that it honestly could make a pretty good movie. It's self contained so there's no need for sequels (a la an Eisenhorn trilogy) but it's Ciaphas Cain, so there can always be more adventures. Sandy Mitchell has written scripts before and could personally adapt it into a filmable script. You'd get a charismatic lead character, his comic foil, some military tough guys and a hot young love interest, Mad Maxing it across the desert. Would make for a fun movie, and non-40k fans could just see it as "Cool dude in a trench coat fighting green barbarians in Space Mad Max" or something akin to that. It wouldn't be the hardest pill to swallow.

Yeah, that might work out pretty well...
The major problem with most of the IG stories is that they're pretty much non-stop combat with a cast of characters that are interesting in their individual setting for those who know what the IG is... but really not enough to sustain a 2 hour movie on their own, and 2 hours of people shooting at each other, fighting and dying is pretty boring.

Which is why the Cain books work because there's a good amount of characterization and adventure aside from just combat for 400 pages.

And also stuff that completely goes against established canon. Might as well make a movie out of Goto's books.
How about a really big event such as the Horus Heresy or the Age of Apostasy? Plenty of treachery and epic battles. A pure space opera.

I was at the Chicago Screening of "Ultramarines". After the movie, one of the producers came out and talked for a bit. There were 2 main things he said about future productions.
1) They would make another movie as soon as they had the funding.
2) Their movies would be "from the view of the Imperium". (aka, no Xenos/Chaos as the main characters).

For a real movie, Eisenhorn trilogy is the best way to go, it introduces you to the Imperium, through a more basic human level, and it would show you space marines and how people react to them. Buget wise you wouldn't need a massive amount of money, it would also then introduce Eldar and Kroot, as well as a myriad of other races but most importantly.. Chaos snd why it is so dangerous, this would then be the base others could jump off. Ghost books would cost too much and have too many battles Cain is comedy Heresy.... at least Avatar budget to do it justice

What's wrong with Ultramarines? The rest of the 40K-verse sucks donkey-balls anyhow.. including wanna-be Alien and especially any lame/lazy Inquisition-stuff (unless, perhaps, if you involve Mel Brooks at some point).

In my opinion, nothing in principle. I like them far more than SW and they were my first 40k minis ever. It's just that just about everything and anything in terms of licensed products is so utterly focused on them!
Ultramarines the Movie, Ultramarines the PC Game(s), Ultramarines the ...
A bit of variety wouldn't hurt.

I think the sequel will probably still be the smurfs, but will probably be alot more dynamic.
They will most likely be fighting Tyranids(cause that was the background to the first movie. they left a tyranid force to come and answer the distress call) or Orks.
that means a little more action throughout the movie and different scenery.
Since they already have the marine renders they will be able to spend time on Tyranids or orks and the background scenery.
Dan Abnett will also have had some experience writing a movie script(if you actually watched the movie and broke it down into descriptive language it would actually be pretty good. if it was shortened to 45 minutes the movie would have been perfect)
