Bastion (US$29.75) + 2 x Chaos Accessory Frame (US$20) = US$49.75
Looks to me like you save $4 on buying the Bastion and the two frames separately.
So what's the problem?

Oh man, that is fantastic. I wouldn't pay an extra $16 for a small sprue with some crappy chains and spikes on it anyway, but it's insulting that they sell that very same sprue loose for $10. Just further proof of some of the silly things that is losing GW customers.
Edit: I didn't notice that it came with two silly chaos spike and chain sprues. So I suppose you're saving a few dollars, like Insaniak pointed out. I still would just rather purchase the Imperial bastion and do some converting without the chaos spiky bits to give it a chaos look.

Simple, they're counting on you not knowing that the Chaos Tank Sprue is in the Bastion box. Why not make $6 extra dollars off a buyer?
Plus you get awesome artwork for the Chaos bastion!! /sarcasm

Look again. You're paying an extra $16 for two sprues that normally sell for $10 each.

The mystery is why they even sell it in the first place. We hashed this out when these were first announced, but to go over it quickly:
1. The people most likely to want a Chaos Bastion are Chaos players.
2. Chaos players are also more likely to have spare parts from the various Chaos vehicle assessory sprues they have.
3. Therefore the people who need extra sprues the least are Chaos players.
4. Therefore Chaos players are better served buying the regular Bastion, and not the Chaos Bastion.

Aww, I was all set to come in and make a big to-do about "Because these are Citadel FineSpikes (TM)" when I saw that it's the original tower plus 2 tank sprues. So it's not terribly unreasonable for a Games Workshop product.

Simple, they're also counting on potential buyers to be lazy and not look online for it, or in the case of online buyers, ignore the sprues and get "shiny bastion syndrome".

And this accomplishes what, exactly?
I mean, I know GW are the most evil company since... er... whatever the last really evil company was, but I rather suspect that you're still missing what's actually happening here.
They're packaging a bastion with a couple of Chaos accessory sprues. They're telling people, right there on the website, that the're doing this. And they're giving you a small discount off buying those items separately.
What insidious motive are you reading into that?

When they first released the Chaos Tank sprue they put it in the Rhino kit for free. Yeah, the chaos and imperial Rhinos cost the same amount and you got more stuff in the Chaos one. When a friend went to buy a Rhino I asked him to buy the Chaos one just so that I could have the extra sprue.

You forgot the people who will buy the Chaos Bastion because it's Chaos, not Imperial. And you need the Chaos Bastion to be Official. Some people really believe that you must use the official models (for each model in your army) in order to have a WYSIWYG army.

There is another set of Pegasus wings for £4.90
Not sure why one set would be 3 quid more
Are they nearly twice as good?
More evidence that GW use a spinner thing for their pricing
Round and round and round it goes
Where it will stop, nobody knows.

I wish they would replace a couple of the "price hike" sections with something a little more wallet-inspiring.

The 10 dollar pegasus wings are metal, the 6 dollar wings are plastic. The plastic pegasus is 11 dollars.

Hmm nope Dos Equis means "two x". The Spanish for piss is... pis.
I didn't know what Dos Equis was, my google-fu tells me it's a brand of beer. So maybe you're just saying that it's a gakky brew and then my hole reply is pointless.

For the non-American's, "I don't often agree with H.B.M.C., but when I do, I drink Dos Equis" is a play on Dos Equis' comercials involving "The Most Interesting Man in the World."
You can find these on Youtube pretty easy.
