So currently I don't have all the details but I will give what information I can. A tournament is being held once again by Yang at Turn 6. The points value is 1850 and is expected to start on the 8th of August (though it could be a slightly different date). This year there will be an entry fee (between 30-50 yuan), but this is merely to allow a larger volume of prize support than last time. If it's anything like last year then we will be expecting a turn out of 30+ players. A lot of players came out of the woodwork last time and we expect a lot of competition to the expat community (Last year out of the 4 expats that took part we came 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 8th). So if you are in town and missed out on last year or would simply just like more info on the event send me a PM and I will do my best to find out what I can from Yang.

Also a point of interest is that since GW has recently opened Yang has made it a point to get them involved in the tournament scene. Now, while they won't be holding any specific events for a while they will contribute towards prize support and this will perhaps open up more options for prizes such as best general, best painted, etc, as well as giving us the opportunity to make this an annual event. Even if you don't want to take part feel free to come on down and meet the regulars.

Edit: Unpainted models are acceptable...though games/armies do look better that way (which is great for me as I'm having trouble building an army in time let alone getting it painted). Have also just spoken to Yang and he has informed me there is a limit to proxies. 10% of your total points. It's preferable to have none, but there needs to be some give and take on the issue. Everything else must be WYSIWYG.

Just kidding. Here's the translation:

Summer Championship Tournament

1. The army lists are 1850 points. No more than 10% of your points may be proxied.

2. The games are Knockouts. (Groups will be made on the day of the tournament) In the case of a draw count up VP's.
For the participants of the semi-finals it will go to a best of 3 games (though again in the case of a draw count VP's).
VP calculation method: As per the BRB with the exception that fleeing units do not count. (I find this odd...will consult the organiser about this).

3. All army lists must abide by the FOC. Lists must be made available to your opponent before you begin playing. In the case of an illegal list you will be automatically disqualified.

4. The competition theme focuses on open-mindedness to rules issues. Anyone found cheating will be disqualified.

5. Any rules issues that may arise should be resolved in a friendly manner with your opponent. If you are unable to do so a judge will make a ruling. Judges decisions are final.

6. All models must be genuine GW products. In the case of a conversion the judges will make a ruling as to whether the model is usable or not. If you bring counterfeit models you will be immediately disqualified.

7. Only rules from official codexes and the BRB may be used. Forgeworld models and rules are not allowed.

8. If observing other players games please do not interfere. In the case of an obvious rules offense call a judge. If you do interfere directly in a game first offense: Verbal warning, second offense: DQ.

Prizes
Champion: RMB voucher worth $ 1,000, GW official certificate
2nd place: 500 yuan worth of GW stock
3rd place: 200 yuan worth of GW stock

Top 4 players qualify to enter in winter offensive Warhammer 40K campaign tournament. This will be held one month before Chinese New Year.

Each contestant's entry fee is 50 yuan. To enter you must purchase a voucher.

Competition Rules
1, Something about the size and shape of objectives? Turn 6 should provide them so no issues here really.
2, Units may not start the game above the 2nd level of a ruin, though they may move there later in the game. Objectives may not be placed higher than the 2nd level.
3, We hope that any difficult rules issues may be brought forth to the judges before the tournament so we may make a ruling.

So sorry to keep ressurecting this thread, but the first day of the tourney was yesterday and although I want to give a rundown of events so far (as well as future ones) they won't really qualify as batreps so I figured this would be the best place for it.

First off I arrived late due to work considerations. As it turned out that was ok as it allowed others to get their games in. Out of 8 tables only 3 were being used for the tournament.

As I arrived one of my mates Mark (with GK's...very similar to jy2's Purifier list) was playing vs some Chaos player. I ask another friend of mine how the game is going and he says "he's clubbing a baby seal". I look over and see an immobilized and weaponless chaos landraider and some fleeing chaos terminators...The landraider has Abaddon and some berzerkers in it and that's all he has left at this point while I see Mark has lost a couple of rhinos. Mark wins.

Next another friend of mine (Sun with IG) played another Chaos list and again it was a smackdown. No vehicles for the chaos player while Sun runs a mixed list with some AV14, some AV12 and 2 infantry blobs. Chaos list gets grinded down through attrition, though he puts up a bigger fight than we all anticipated.

My first round opponent is Necrons. At this point I'm freaking out a bit since I loaded up on melta and multimelta henchmen. I manage to roll a 4 for my Jokaero and get rending multi-meltas...I'm gonna have to get real lucky doing anything to the 2 Monoliths. 5 objective mission. At least that's good for me. Utilizing Grand Strategy I get 8 scoring units. Initially I go for his mobility (destroyers and Wraiths) and Tomb Spyfers to reduce WBB chances and his ability to come and contest my objectives. I do get extremely lucky on his Monoliths as I immobilize both of them early enough that he is on the 2 objectives in his deployment zone and can't come and get my 3. Spyders, Destroyers and Wraiths all go down as well)I pull out a win.

More later...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Some of the other first round games that I saw bits and pieces of (I have heard there are at least 2 DE players somewhere):

My group (Group 1)
Horde Orks vs SW...Orks Win
Necrons vs Nids...Nids win (this is my next opponent)

Group 2
BA vs Nids...BA wins

Group 3
Horde Orks vs SW...Orks win

There were more games I'm sure but these were the only ones I saw anything of. Some round 2 games also went down:

Round 2 Group 1
Horde Orks vs SW...Orks win

Group 2
Sun's IG vs Battlewagon orks...IG wins

More games are going on today but unfortunately I'm working (on a Sunday of all days), but I'm getting my round 2 game in on Monday. Should be an easy game but I know getting to the semi's after the 3rd game is gonna be tough. The round 2 SW vs Orks game in my group was pretty brutal. I know the SW player well and his list was solid, so I know I have a tough game ahead of me there.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Further updates for todays games:

Group 2
Mark's GK's went on to beat up some BA and then we had the much anticipated Mark vs Sun matchup to determine who gets the guaranteed space in the semi's. Mark won due to Sun not knowing Crowe having Cleansing Flame apparently (though he was enough of gentleman to concede that if it had been a draw he would have also lost on VPs).

Group 3
The local tourney god pulls out a 4 landraider BA list (experimental phase after moving on from IG and Eldar, with every tournament bar 1 under his belt in the few years he's been here). He gets pulled against Orks. Amazingly the Orks pull out the win. Unfortunately I didn't get to watch but I spoke with him shortly after the game concluded. Apparently he was winning up to Turn 6. Then Turn 7 happened and Zogwart managed to blow up a landraider firmly swinging the balance back in the Orks favour. I also heard it was the last possible thing he could do and through some serious favour from the dice gods he pulled it off. As it stands now the tournament is literally anyone's game.

Also interestingly since there are only 3 groups 1 of the losers of the 3rd round will get to go through to make up the 4th player. There will be play-offs between these 3 to determine who gets the coveted 2nd chance.

So far then:

Group 1
Nids vs GK (me), followed up by the winner playing against Orks. The winner goes through to the semi's.

Group 2
GK's go through

Group 3
Orks vs ??? (will do my best to remedy this) - the winner goes through

Will do my best tomorrow to update again.

Cool. Mark's purifier-GK's really is robust build. He might of had problems with the 4-LR BA army, but it does look like he's dodged that bullet. In tournaments, it's all about the matchup.

Good luck in your battle against nids. Nids can actually do pretty well against GK's as long as they remember to provide ample Shadows coverage to their units.

Yeah, though to be honest I'm pretty confident. He is using a single Tervigon as his sole source of Shadows. He's pretty new to nids and 40k in general. Will have to go through some nid stuff with him after the game.

On another related note this is also another big reason why I stay away from Purifiers myself. Henchmen just aren't as susceptible to psychic power shutdown, and it's going to work to my advantage in this game.

That said my game after this (if I win of course) is a much tougher propostion. Orks taking down a dedicated SW gunline with some solid counter assault units was no easy feat and I'm probably going to wish I had some cleansing flame in my list, lol.

Luke,

Just wanted to say thanks for creating this thread here...wasn't there something about you taking pictures and making bat reps? Some of the games will have battle reports btw; in Chinese though and there are a lot of photos being snapped with some good cameras. I am sure we can get these.

@ JY2 - my build is similar to the build i have seen you use in some of your battle reports - List is as follows:

HQ
Crowe

TROOPS
Purifer - 5 men
- warding stave
- 2 psycannons
- Rhino

Purifer - 5 men
- warding stave
- 2 psycannons
- Rhino

Purifier - 5 men
- thunder hammer
- 2 psycannons
- 2 halberds

Strike Squad - 5 men
- psycannon
- rhino

Strike Squad - 5 men
- psycannon
- Rhino

ELITE

2 x Venerable Dreads - T/L Autocannons with Psybolt ammo

HEAVY
3 x Dreadnoughts with T/L Autocannons with Psybolt ammo

***

Agree that the list is really robust, although the Rhinos can be popped pretty easily - numbers helps. I was considering a Vindicare instead of a strike squad, but wanted to go for the reliability and the additional Warp Quake area vs. an the assassin - he is just too easy to kill i think

Some comments -

Game 1 vs. Chaos - yeah, pretty much as you mentioned...

Game 2 vs. Blood Angels
- Blood angels player was far too cautious, trying to hide behind terrain and come up the side instead of just coming right at me. Mephiston was a beast and wracked up 3 of the 4 KPs for the opponent - BTW - i have 16 KP in my army, she had 12...advantage to her especially as most of mine are minimum squads in rhonos, she had a landraider, stormraven, etc. I got crowe into combat with mephiston and as he killed me i tried to take him with me...rolled an 11 ... I shot almost all of my psychannons at mephiston, who only had 2 wounds lieft bt T6...he was in the terrain of a blown out Dreadnought so he got a 4+ cover from about 8 rending shots...she made them all :,( in the end it was 8 KP to 4 - she had the landraider (immobiliezed and minus 2 weapons, an immobilized dreadnought, a 5 man assulat squad that she hid the entire game, and mephiston on 2 wounds left of her army.

Game 3 vs. Sun's Guard
- Very tough game. Sun is a great player and knows to go after my mobility. He has played against crowe before so not sure why he was so surprised. When i ran crowe up to his line he was like "a sacrificial lamb" and I said "of course". Crowe did end up being sacrificed, after taking out 1 30 man infantry blob and a good portion of another. there were 3 objectives in this game, i had 1, and 2 were contested...very tough, but Sun was on his heals most of the game i feel. He had one partial blob left, creed (alone), an immbolized weaponless chimera, a demolisher tank without its main gun, and an immobilized leman russ left. I lost 5 rhinos, Crowe, 1 ven dread, 1 strike squad, 1 purifer squad...still had 4 dreads (one contested his objective held by his hurt infantry blob) 1 5 man purifier squad, 2 guys left in a strike squad and 1 man purifer left(holding second objective that he was contesting).

Again, very tough game.

Thanks again Luke for having this up here.

No worries. Initially I wanted to get some pics myself, but I figured I wouldn't have the time (lol). As it is I will just do them for the final rounds. I will also try to get hold of Yangs pics...I saw him take hundreds so there should be something worthwhile in there.

I'm off now for my next round...Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.

So another update after my game yesterday. GK victory, but a lot closer than I anticipated it to be. Partially it was luck (mine was supremely bad at times while his was hot all the way through) and he was playing a defensive game. In Capture and Control it was going to be tough to win the game outright so I decided I was going to have to do it with VP's. Some examples of the horrendous luck:

Trygon DS's next to Coteaz to get side shots on my Psyker Chimera. Explodes it, 7 guys die, they fall off the board. Coteaz's 3 servitor w/MM and Jokaero all fail to hit or wound.

I shoot my entire army at his 1 trygon (nothing else came in). It lives with 2 wounds remaining. Thats's 12 BS5 TL autocannons, 3 S6 TL Heavy Bolters, 3 multilasers, 6 meltaguns and 4 multimeltas...this was with no cover. Every single melta weapon failed to hit or wound.

A biovore hitting a 5 man SS. 10 hits, 5 wounds, 3 dead, they run off the table.

A single Broodlord (after losing his brood to multiple heavy flamers and incinerators gets assaulted by 5 man Purgations Squad with Nemesis daemon hammer. Over 4 rounds he kills the squad while my S10 hammer doesn't roll a single hit

By the end we both had our own objectives but I won on VP's...1000 to about 500.

So yeah, not a great set of dice rolls, but I consider my bad luck out of the way now so I can move onto good rolls for the rest of the tournament.

Wednesdays game: Orks vs GK.

Will be giving the organizer a call and will see if he can get me some pics via usb. I will also start taking pics as of tomorrow.

Regarding the game I think he shot himself in the foot a little. He reserved everything except his Tervigon HQ who sat out of LoS behind a wall with the objective.

His Turn 2 nothing but 3 small stealers broods came in. They also went and sat behind the wall blocking LoS. Turn 3 his Trygon came in. My guess is he was planning to get more VP's than he would give up...Now even though my shooting was abysmal it was never gonna happen. I play a fully meched up list so at best he was going to crack a 50pt transport. He got lucky killing 135pts of stuff with his Trygon shooting attack, but even so he was still behind in VP's once I downed the thing. After that he came in piecemeal and wasn't as lucky (except for that damn Broodlord).

If he had come at me in a rush with everything it would have been a completely different game. Threat saturation could have made a big difference.

So I will keep the suspense going a little longer. Yesterdays game VS Orks is now over. There were a couple of rules mistakes on both sides. Me not being familiar with Orks in general, and my opponent being relatively new to 40K (he's just crossed over from FoW). That said his list was good and his tactics solid. Now onto some of the details:

C&C, pitched battle. Orks got first turn and I failed to seize. He has split his forces into 2 parts. The objective defenders (13 Lootaz and a 30 boy mob) and his attackers (another 30 boy mob, 2 battlewagons with 18 ard boys + Warboss and another with 13 Burna boys and KFF) and 3 Kans. I have done the same with my force (our objectives were diagonal to each other so our attacking units will only be going up against the defenders). My attacking units consist of 2 Ven Dreads and a chimera with 3 meltas. I know how durable the dreads are and more importantly while they advance they will be able to get side shots on his battlewagons hopefully downing them early.

From here I will just do quick rundowns of the important stuff. Pictures will be coming soon. At work at the moment so I can't hook up my camera and I will get the organizers pics of the battle over the weekend.

My first turn shooting is lacklustre as he makes all KFF saves on his BW's.

His Lootaz are on fire most of the game. His to hit rolls are average, but when it comes to penning AV12 he rolls 6's like crazy. Like 9 hits, 3 6's come up to pen. Or 13 hits, 4 6's and 3 5's...all game like that.

Purgation squad surviving 42 hits from burna boys, then proceeding to down his last Kan in cc (Daemon Hammer) though I die also.

A weaponless Ven dread making it's way across the obscene loota shooting gallery to charge his 30 boy unit and tie them down for 5 rounds and pull them off the objective for the win.

It was a pretty brutal game. I got kind of lucky that his cc units really just bounced off me allowing me to counter with all my units inside Chimeras. This was a huge a point of contention for my opponent...he didn't know Chimeras had hull heavy flamers... But apart from that it was a pretty fun game. After 1st turn I though it was all over, but I screened well with my Ven dread on my objective and somehow managed to kill all the orks attacking.

Next round I face Mark's Purifiers. Yikes!!

Yet another update (the games are going fast now there aren't nearly as many people involved).

Sun's IG vs Space Wolves got played out. KP's with Spearhead deployment. To a lot of people's surprise The SW won. This was also with a non-tuned army (IMO) so it just goes to show it is the General and not just the list...though perhaps luck did play a part as well. I hear from Sun that a lucky first turn shot from a single lascannon exploded a Demolisher and the game went downhill from there. An entire army shooting at a Rhino without cover and failing to get a single result. SW 7 KP's to IG's 2KP's.

Game – Semi Finals, Game 1
Grey Knights (Crowe) vs. Grey Knight (Coteaz)

Mission: 1 Objective Each
Deployment: Normal

I win the roll and choose to go first (Crowe), set up… Luke (coteaz army) set’s up…

3 rhinos with purifiers and one empty rhino (crowe behind ready to get in) and 1 venerable and 1 regular dreadnought positioned to go after his objective…Strick squad in rhino and strike squad behind a wall and other dreadnoughts positioned to protect my objective

He is defending his objective – command squad, psykers and 2 melta squads along with his three ven dreadnoughts protecting his objective

He has an offensive force – 2 x strike squads and purgators in razorbacks

COTEAZ TURN 1

Luke, like the veteran player he is

- Moves his razorbacks forward pops smoke

- Targets my Rhinos ( :( ) Blows up two of my Rhinos with purifiers – two purifiers in the closer squad fail their saves and die - with purifiers and immobilizes the rhino Crowe was going to get into…

This really changes my entire strategy

Crowe Turn 1 -
[Thumb - P9080071.JPG]
I move the mobile purifiers up – (need to get into psycannon range) and move both other squads up

[Thumb - P9080075.JPG]
My shooting wrecks a SS razorback and immobilizes the Purgators Razorback
