Coteaz Turn 2…

SS gets out and moves forward… other SS razorback moves behind the wrecked razorback for cover…purgartros move forward and will run up behind the razorback for cover - he is putting pressure on my objective :(




Strike Squad and razorback shoot my strike squad behind the building…some how killing 4!!!!!!! Sergeant lives and passes morale.


He e also shoots at my lead rhino with purifiers, wrecking it and shoots at my leftmost purgation squad…killing 2 (only psycannon left in that squad)

He also shoot the crap out of the close purgation squad…only one psycannon left there too:(

Summary – at the end of Lukes turn 2 I have, 1 immobilized Rhino (red), Crowe, 2 squads of purifiers with only a psycannon left, 1 4 man purifier squad (both psycannons and warding stave), 1 full strike squad in rhino, 1 seargetn from a strike squad, and all of my dreadnoughts.

Unfortunately I will have to summarize from this point forward – the game got a bit intense and didn’t take photos :’( (Jy2 – I don’t know how you manage to photo document your games so well).

In short –

I manage to wreck the other two Razorbacks on his offensive wink, his lead strike squad fell to shooting; his purifiers got within 10-12 inches of my Strike squad in a rhino – I disembarked 2 inches, moved 6” toward them and assaulted – Cast hammer hand (he does not as he does not want to risk losing his hammer) (note he had 4 guys in the squad) – I managed to cause 4 wounds in the assault wiping out his purgation squad)

Now on my right side I was able to focus my fire on his last strike squad.

On the left side…He took out 2 of my Purifier squads (the other squad had 1 man hiding behind the rhino) – wrecked 1 of his melta chimeras, destroyed one of his dreadnoughts, removed 1 gun and immobilized his 2nd ven dread – his 3rd vendrad (closest to his objective, was fine)

His psykers rolled a 12 and died, although he has a melta gun in the squad so I won’t get full VP .

In the end it was a draw – we each held our own objectives – thus we went to VP.

I gave up about 650 VPs (2 full purifier squads, 4 rhinos, half a purifier squad, half a strike squad, half a dread); Luke gave up around 950 VPs…3 razorbacks, 2 strike squads, purgation squad, 1 ven dread, half a ven dead, half of a few henchmen squads, and a few chimeras.

Overall, amazingly good game (sorry don’t have all the pics). Luke taking out my Rhinos I was planning on pressuring his objectives changed my tactics significantly and I knew right away I had to destroy his guys pressuring my objective and win on VPs.

Luke had to go after my purifiers because he did not want my psycannons to get in range (once the 2 psycannons shot the hell out of one of his dreadnoughts – and they took out a chimera). Because of his target priority (going after my purifiers) and because of limited line of site to his Strke squads and purgation squad, I was able to start shooting at his dreadnoughts before he could start shooting at mine. In the end, I had 4 fully functional dreads and 1 that only missed 1 gun.

Even then though, 300 VPs in an 1850 pt game is really quite tight.

We played a second game, this one on KPs. No photos and this game the dice were not with Luke…we stopped at top of turn 6 (luke went first again) at this point (I would have had another turn) it was 9-5 VPs (4 of my rhinos and 1 strike squad that ran off the board) – (I had taken out all o fhis transports, and his psykers and I think ieven a strike squad.

I think the grey knights will take this one. Purifiers vs henchmen? Methinks the army with the most dreads will have the advantage here. However, it is capture and control....

Still, gonna give it to Crowe-purifiers for more resiliency and better troops. BTW, my prediction is before reading the report.

With regards to photos, it just takes practice and discipline. When I started doing battle reports, I would forget all the time. I still probably would in a timed environment (i.e. tournament), but right now, after doing so many reports, taking pictures have almost become instinctive. Also, the key is to time it properly. You need to be able to play your army quickly and take the photos quickly so as to not annoy your opponent. It helps with practice, but when you're doing it with a brand new army (or one that you are not familiar with), then it really slows it down.

Basically, it just takes practice and more practice. The more you do, the better you'll get at taking pictures in a report.

Thanks to Mark for the pics. I was waiting for the pics before I wrote anything up. The first game was pretty brutal. In the first 2 turns I thought I had the game in the bag since his Purifiers and rhinos were pretty much out of the game. However having 5 dreads over 3 made a huge difference and they swung the game quite decisively in his favour in the late stages. A really tight game.

In the 2nd game I had some terrible luck with dice. Some examples:

3 pens on a rhino with no cover. 1, 1, 2 damage result.
2 multimeltas pen a vendread. Snake eyes for damage.
1 ven dread spending 3 turns trying to kill a weaponless and immobilized regular dread and failing.

In the meantime Mark was playing sensibly and was eliminating my army 1 transport at a time. I was struggling to do the same. In the end I gave up 9-5 since he only had to kill 2 servitors and then there was no way I could make a come back. Kudos to Mark on the win. Both games he played really well and kept the upper hand with distances (Purifiers stayed at round the 24" distance thus not allowing me to hit him hard with meltas and flamers).

I'm now working on a more efficient henchmen list. Had a practise game yesterday against a Paladin list Mark wrote up at 2k. Pretty brutal and in this game the luck was all with me. Turn 1 knocked out a ven dread, took a weapon off another ven dread, exploded a regular dread and killed a soladin. After that it was just focus fire into Draigo's big 10 man squad. We called it turn 4 with just a single wound libby and a hammer left in the big squad plus 2 soladins. I had lost some melta henchmen and a razorback. Now why didn't I bring THAT to the tournament, lol.

Last time I saw the organizer I forget to get the pics...but they will be coming soon.

Apologies for the delay, but I have finally got hold of some of the pics. There are 3 games worth of pics here, and although they are in game order there is some messiness. The pics aren't mine and I wasn't there to watch the games so unfortunately I can't give much of a rundown (though I do know who won etc.).

First up is SW vs Orks fighting for the 4th semi-final place. If SW win this match they auto go through as they have already beaten the IG player.

The battles shown below are best of 3. 2 sets of games got played here and it's to see who gets to play against Mark for the top spot (and 1000 yuan if they win) and who gets to play me fighting for 3rd place (and the 200 yuan worth of loot...4th just gets a handshake and disappointing looks from the rest). The final games for those are tomorrow and I will be sure to take my USB so I can get hold of the pics. I'm sure Mray will be on as well to give descriptions of how his games will go down.
