Hey guys I need your help. My friend keeps on changing armies and I need him to stop for the good of the Imperium. In the past months (about three) he has changed from Blood Angels, To Chaos Space Marines, To Nurgle, To Dark Angels, and now he is changing to grey knights. Can you help me make him stay Dark angels? His name is BattleBrother and his other one is ChaosLordSam and he doesn't know all of the rules. Please PM him to stop changing.
-Thanks

Why should he?

Nope. Sounds like he's keeping Games Workshop in business. I support his actions entirely!

Once again, people wanting to tell people how to spend their money, or what to do with the things they buy with their money... just completely astound me.

If he enjoys himself switching armies, then who are you to say "no more switching, you have to stick with one?"

The OP's title and his post share a lot of similarity.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

Look on it as an opportunity to fight new stuff.

I get tired with playing the same army all the time. At one point I had 6 40K armies myself, before I decided to cut back

My question is he just switching codexes or is he buying units as well? If he is just switching codexes, how new to the game is he?

So your friend has more than one account here on Dakka Dakka?

That is against the rules - thanks for the info!

yeah, I'm going to PM him. Because in my experience people really enjoy messages from people they dont' know, telling them how to behave. It works out great for all involved.

OH YEAH!?! WHAT IF HIS FRIEND WAS DOING DRUGS?! DO YOU SUPPORT DRUGS!!!?

Well, now that you mention it...

Also, I find it exceedingly ironic that a "Slaaneshi" poster is opposing the presence of drugs...

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

My friend does this too. While I don't mind because it's his money, it does get a bit annoying considering we only play twice a month or so and every time it seems he has a different army and he doesn't know the rules worth poop. Makes the games less enjoyable. One day he'll be maxed out and won't have room for more so maybe he'll get on the rules then.

You'll have to swallow your pride on this but....

When he gets his latest army and you want him to keep it, play him but tool your list to where it fails and be like omg that army is amazing, while he kicks your "arse" he will eventually learn the rules.

Thats how I would do it but truth be told if I wanted to try a new army, I would just use his sense he's buying them all.

This is my Leman Russ. There are many out there like it, but this one is mine. Without it, I am useless. Without me, it is useless.

Personally, I'd switch armies every year or so when I first started. First I had Eldar. Then I sold them and switched to Imperial Guard. Then I sold them and switched to Space Marines. Each switch was because I'd seen those armies doing well, while I felt like I was constantly failing every battle - and I pretty much was, from the very little I can remember.

When I did that last one, when I showed up to my FLGS with my new Space Marines, one of my friends made a comment that stuck with me. He told me that I switched armies just when I was starting to get good with the one I already had. So now I don't sell my miniatures. I have a lot of different armies, and I'm glad I've kept them. Ones I shelved months or years ago, I might decide next week, "Hey, it might be cool to play with them now!" because I've thought of a good scenario or saw a cool miniature from that army online.

Switching armies, I'm not gonna judge. I'm not gonna tell him he should or shouldn't do it. It's his money, and if he eventually feels like he should have kept his old stuff, he'll likely start to do it then, and have learned a valuable life lesson in the process. Learning on your own is a good thing, and it's not like it's going to kill anyone or harm anyone.

Why do you want him to play Dark Angels when it's your account slathered with their iconography?

Also, well done on accidentally dropping him in it with the Mods.

I also change armies frequently.

Actually, I think I only really started to enjoy the hobby once I realized that army X or Y doesn't have to be a marriage for life. That's when I started to look at them as "projects". Build something, play with it as long as it's fun. Ebay it when it gets stale or a new release (or a new game) tickles your fancy.

Three armies in three months is probably too much too fast (did he really paint all that), but getting away from those misguided notions of "your are an X-player" and will be forever, ironically frees you of the need to look for "the best fit" in each and every aspect and to concentrate on your current project, knowing it is a good one, though other fun, perhaps projects will also be yours in the future.

Sounds like he is trying to find an army he likes, nothing wrong with that.

Although Orks and Choas generally appease my gaming spirit I have dabbled with Tyranids, Eldar and Space Marines (didn't get very far as you can probably tell by my not naming a chapter.)

This is my perspective. I seriously considered army-hopping but have managed to stick with the three armies that I own: Eldar, Marines, and Necrons. For me, the problem was buying new units and changing my lists to something different every time I play. When I realized I wasn't improving as a player, I stopped looking for new units to add and learned how to use the ones I had. Eventually your friend will pick up on this too.

Easy solution, get him a girl friend. That will take up time and money where he will only have resources to focus on one army....

thats flavour of the month syndrome and theres no known cure. basically, you need to make him understand that there is no perfect army and that we will never be totally satisfied with either.

I personnaly don't see the problem here. Surely it's better to test your wits against more different enemies? I use CSM's all the time and I should think my regular oppo is getting fed up of them and would love me to play something different!
