Good luck to you too baconz. I got a D over all in a level maths and c's in chemistry and physics AS. Annoyingly in maths AS I got an A, chemistry practical I got 100% and physics paper 1 I got an A but I hugely fethed up the summer exams. I require AAB for both of the universities I want to go to.

I am doing further maths this coming year so if I get an A in that and drastically improve my physics and chemistry in A2 then I should be fine. The problem with retakes when you already have a full workload is they tend to drag down the other stuff so I'm not sure if I will do any this time, thanks for the concern though Alby.

Got my AS results today, achieved pretty much what I predicted.
Chemistry- UU
Maths- DDU
Art- A (100% )
Picked the wrong subjects at the start of the year and the head of sixth form has already agreed to let me do an extra year. Did pretty bad in maths though, thought I'd get something along the lines of BCE :<
Congrats to all of those who did well

I had to retake my A Levels and improved from C,D,D in Biology, Chemistry, Physics to A,B,C.
This was good enough for medical school in 1980 because I played bassoon, as did the professor who interviewed me.

Best of luck to you guys!
So, do ya'll have standardized tests like the SAT and the ACT like we do over here for getting into Universities, in addition to your grades?
What about your high school (or whatever your equivalent level) grade rankings?
Typically, if you're in the top 10% of your high school, have a B+ average, and do reasonably well on your SAT or ACT, you can easily get into any state school and most private schools.

Ah. Is this like advanced-placement or University credit classes you take in High School?
Or is this more like going to a junior college as an intermediate step between High School and University?
I find your school system interesting.
Are your junior high and high schools divided into houses like Hogwarts? <---- Serious question.

Posh secondary schools [ages 14-16 do gcse's and 5-6 c's or above is a highschool diploma just about] and secondary schools trying to be posh have houses but normally we don't.
17-18 year olds are in college which I would imagine is much like this junior college in that it is the two year gap between secondary school and uni.

Well, here's a quick question, does this test affect you going to a 4 year college/university, a 2 year college, or a program after the 4 years of college/university?

The first two years of college in the states are more similar to college here whereas the second two years are more similar to a bachelors uni degree IIRC, after that comes masters and PhD.

I'm so glad I dropped out of college so I don't have to wrroy about these things. All I have to do is stroll up to the Job Centre every 2 weeks.
I kid, I kid, i've got an apprenticeship interview lined up next Tuesday with a web development company, and i've applied for two more apprenticeships with developers too.
At least I make an effort, unlike so many other unemployed people ¬.¬
But anywho, grats to everyone (including Corpses, who must now come and live in Manchester with Alby and me; we promise to totally not take advantage of you... much...)

We don't have junior high and high schools. There are two basic systems, public (private) and state.
State Schools -- free for everyone.
Primary age 5 to 11
Secondary age 11 to 18
Grammar Schools -- free for everyone
Same as above but entrance at age 11 is by exam so only academically gifted children get through.
Public Schools (these are private schools) Boys
Entrance is by exam and interview.
Preparatory -- age 5 to 13
Public School -- age 13 to 18
Girls' public schools are basically the same as Grammar schools except you have to pay. Entrance is by exam and interview.
It is public schools that tend to have houses, and funny names for the forms, such as the Remove, the Upper and Lower 6th, and so on.
In boarding schools the houses are actual large houses where the children live.
Scotland has a different system. I'm not sure about Northern Ireland and Wales.
While SATS are taken at age 7 and 11, they are used for ranking schools rather than children. Advancement to higher levels is by exams at 11, 15/16 and 17/18. The AS Level includes about the same amount of material as the first year of US university, which is why English university degrees are usually three years rather than four.
Scotland has a more broadly based system and has four year degrees.
Some schools now offer the International Baccalaureate, which is a more broadly based exam than A Levels.
Personally I am not convinced the concentrated English system is the best one. I remember being confronted at the age of 13 with the need to choose the O Levels to take which would restrict my choice of A Levels which would restrict my choice of degree. It's rather young to worry about such things.

Being honest here and i apologise for any offence. I was kinda wondering whether or not nerds (putting this delicately) flourish in an academic environment this kinda proves they dont. Apart from Crystal maze and Yani, Great job btw! , the grades are not what i expected especially corpsesarefun who seems to know his sciencey stuff pretty good from past threads. I am speaking as someone who got 4 B's and a C (maths) in higher (Scottish, Slightly less difficult than A-levels but we do more in less time). Also i have three years (Hnc, Hnd and ordinary(worhtless) degree) of straight D's and C's at uni behind me (For good, i aint nevar goin back!).

My problem is mostly that I didn't do enough work in maths, I was cocky in chem and didn't do enough work as my practical exam and mocks were all A/100% and the physics course is bs.

In general, looking at the A levels, they seem really quite challenging and it's a big jump from GCSE to A level in my opinion. Many students are cocky or lazy or don't really "get" the switch needed in work ethic and application. I'm not sure I would've, either.
Still lads, fair play to ye for getting through the exams. Even if you did poorly, there are many chances to improve. I did quite poorly all things considered for my leaving cert (somewhat similar to the A levels but less difficult, however we do 7 subjects), but got into Uni, where I really started to do well. By the end, my leaving results were irrelevant. And my university degree hasn't really been that relevant since I started working.
