Shouldn't they learn to use a script and editing before they go on television?

I think BoW get a lot of negative crtiques, and I really think it's unfair. Those guys are not perfect, and some times the news isn't accurate....but they're entertaining, and they are actually out there delivering news in a multi-media format.
Personally, I love what those guys are doing, and tune in every week for Turn 8 and On the Table. I'd rather see people offering support then see people constantly ripping into them because they're an amateur out-fit.
IMHO unless you can and are willing to do a better job, put that energy into helping them become better at what they do.

I watch a lot of youtube channels. Just because BoW is related to wargames does not somehow make it okay for them to suck. In fact I think it a bit insulting that one should put the bar so low for something just because it is wargame related. Are wargamers just that bad that we need a lower standard? They have a youtube channel where they talk about the latest news in wargaming.
Sometimes they offer tactics advice *shudder*.

True, true, they got kicked off of Youtube. I forgot about that for a sec.
Are you suggesting that a BoW TV show will not be an expanded version of their videos? Because their videos are bad. They are poor quality. Website with videos, youtube channel, call it what you will. They are sub-par quality. Just because there is no other series of wargaming news videos does not make BoW's sub-par productions suddenly good.

Nope
The videos are not bad. You forgot the caveat that is just your opinion and not a universal truth.
Okay that you don't like them, but you are forgetting that these guys were working presumably on a limited budget.
How can you expect top notch production values for Youtube videos.
One of the joys about BoW is that they are part of the gaming community, and enjoy banter with the audience.
I hope that they manage to retain the same sense of belonging with the TV show.

I never said that everything I said was objectively the only possible truth.
But if you think BoW is quality when compared to other youtube videos? Other youtube videos that have zero budget?
BoW has decent editing, effects, etc. More so than most youtube channels. I actually consider it pretty impressive how together all of their editing is.
But their cast is terrible at reading their news. Their conversations are awkward, they are rarely funny, there are often awkward pauses that give a strong impression that they don't do multiple takes or go over their lines. Sometimes I wonder if they even have a script, half the time it feels like they don't know which one should be talking.
Now maybe BoW has improved in quality IMMENSELY in the last couple months. I stopped being able to bear watching them a while ago.
I like wargames as much as anyone on this forum. That doesn't mean I think that anything wargame related becomes golden.

Because their videos are bad
Sounds like a statement of fact
There are plenty of people that find their comments amusing.
Yes some videos are clunky at times. But condemning the TV broadcasts out of hand before they even get started is unfair.
We have no idea if they will be the same style/better/worse.
It might not be gold but I fail to see how it is bad for gaming.

ph34r can not wait to see your online show concerning wargames, sure it will be insightful, funny and and an all together polished piece of media entertainment . . . oh wait your not doing one . . . .oh well i guess I will go and watch the only people who had the bollocks to actually give it a go.
They are slightly awkward and bumbling but I am not suprised they do not have the time to rehearse every little thing that they do, also it feels more like a conversation between mates or a local radio show. Its the amatuer aspect of them that is making them very endearing.
I say well done to them for getting out there and doing it all as well as they have, also becoming a great success and continuing to grow

Im just sugesting your opinion on this is so far from the reality it almost seems you have a hidden agenda or old grudge against BOW
There are today professional channels that are inferior to what you see on this amateur channel named BOW, the fact its growing so fast and going so far is by itself a example that its appreciated and watched... if it was such load of crap like you say no one would even notice it...

I used to watch Beasts of War like crazy, and then the Youtube fiasco happened, and for some reason they felt it was a great idea to start charging for the videos that actually seem interesting... Like their terrain videos, their 3 color up videos, pretty much anything I consider interesting I now have to pay for.
I understand the need to gain money, but they were a youtube channel and got what? 2.50 USD per every thousand views on a video?... So they've got 4.4 thousand views on the latest On the Table... thats 4 subscribers... I think they did the backstage thing to make sure they couldn't lose income if Youtube screwed them over again, but like GW... the stuff they put out is good, and it was enjoyable, but I'd rather spend my 6.25 a month on something else...
I also wish that they would tell you when something is backstage (like when they send out an update via facebook or twitter). Because you couldn't count the number of times I've clicked on something that interested me, and it tells me to sign up for backstage... Much like GW products, it interests me, but not that much...

There are backstage logos... on their site... But they'll put out a backstage update via twitter, and if I click it, its like "Hey! Why not sign up?"
I wish they'd stop with the backstage thing...

Wow, lots of hate for BoW.
I personally love them and enjoy going to their site every couple days to check out what they have up. I think the fact that they aren't "professional" makes it better, like its a fellow nerd talking about wargaming and not some "professional" hired to read a script.
The whole reason I stopped watching G4 is because they hired some chick who has no idea about the subject because she was hot.
People can hate all they want, but I haven't seen anything better on the web. Good luck to them, hope they get done what they set out to do.

I never watched them much, but I remember the tactics advice being REAL dodgy. Remember the ridiculous template bit that talked about putting the template UNDERNEATH your model to be able to choke up the template to get more genestealers? That's just BAD.
Also, lukewild, one does not need to produce a show of any variety to be able to say whether a show is of questionable quality. I'm just saying, based upon what I've seen, it would require lots of editing and a good amount of presentation coaching. The show is stiff as a board and sounds like college radio. Is it the only one of it's kind? Sure, it's a pioneer in a completely otherwise untouched field, which is cool, don't get me wrong. That doesn't make it any less painful to listen to. Could I do better? Maybe, maybe not. I'm fairly certain that I could present better in front of a camera, but I'm not sure I could actually put together a show's worth of content.

I totally disagree. When inviting someone to "do better", the aim is to encourage people to base their criticism on more than simply not liking it by inviting them to "walk in the producers shoes" as it were. It's easy to condemn somebodies work, however, if you tried to produce the same thing, you might then appreciate the limitations that lead to the aspects of the work you don't enjoy. Will it make you suddenly enjoy those aspects? probably not, but at least you will understand why those things happen, and in understanding the bigger picture, you may then excuse those elements and carry on to enjoy the rest of the work.
What we should try to bear in mind, is that the guys from BoW, as far as I understand, do not recieve a wage for what they do (if I'm wrong please let me know), most proffessional presenters get paid good money to do what they do, so I can only assume that the BoW guys are doing this while holding down "real" jobs and supporting families, mortgages, etc........all we have to do is turn up and watch.

Well if its not to your taste you can always check the other so professional wargaming channels you love so much and errr saying BOW is a youtube channel is like saying GW is that store in the street corner... and you know what they say about half truths...
BoW appeared from nowhere (like BoLs for example) They don't offer anything profound. Everything is a lot longer and drawn out that it needs to be. I tend t avoid on principal.
I never said that everything I said was objectively the only possible truth.

This - it looks sexy but lacks substance. Oohh snazzy 3d graphics or whatever but no fluditiy, looking away from camera.. I think I'd have more sympathy if they weren't attempting so badly (and failing) to appear 'professional'
