Well I think it is time to start one of these and maybe I can get motivated to finish these guys. I have always loved all of GW's Arbite models. In fact it was the sight of the them that first made me want to play 40k back in the day. I have many 40k armies, but these guys have a special place in my heart. My very first SM army had a unit of them to use as scouts. I have been collecting abites for the past 4-5 year to build up and army of them. I have tried a few different lists. First I played them as a SM scout army, kinda boring, and no use for all of my grenade launchers. Next I tried a Witch Hunter list, now thanks to GW I can only play that among my friends, but out in stores nobody wants to see an out of print book. I am not very impressed with the BOLS list. A lot of work went into it and it has some great art, but for rules I am not impressed. So after some codex reading I think I have settled on an Imperial Guard list. I liked how the Inquisitorial Storm Troopers played in my WH list so IG was an easy transition. I loose my rhinos (of which I had 7 set aside for these guys), bolters, my Inquisitor lord and his land raider prometheus , but I still retain a lot of quality shooting with 4+ saves. I do however gain cheaper chimeras, and a plethera of heavy support options. So this is what I am working on so far.

HQ

This Guy will be my HQ I am thinking of using him as Colonel Straken. He is a conversion using the classic arbite Judge and the arms of Solar Marius. I love how he turned out, except I am not happy with the shoulder pad on the right arm holding the staff. I may fix it in the future before painting.

Next we have his command squad. In it we have a heavy bolter team, the sevo skull will act as a wound counter for the heavy weapon. The models with old style bolters will be body guards with lasguns. There are also 2 grenade launchers. The pyker is my astropath, and the sage model is there to represent my master of the fleet or as I like to think of him as dispatcher. I also have two extra grenade launchers in case I want to make the unit more mobile. So in that case it would be 4 GL, body guards, astropath, and master of the fleet.

Here is my second HQ, he still needs so trimming of green stuff before painting. This guy will probably be used as a Commissar Lord, but in times of need he can also be deployed with a squad of his own and used as a 2nd company command as seen below. The squad wood include a heavy bolter with a sevo skull as the wound counter, three verterans with lasgusn, body guard, astropath, and a master of the fleet.

Tech Marines & gun servitors

The arbite with the shield will represent the tech marine and the scout heavy bolters his gun servitors for some cheap fire support with good saves. I love how the heavy bolters turned out. I have 10 of them from when I used to use these guys under the WH list (retributor squads) so I have tried to squeeze a few in this list.

Elites

For Elites I am stocked.

The arbites with bolters will be "count as" Storm Troopers with hot shot lasguns. I figure it could fit if the arbites have "hot shot" rounds for their bolters. Two squads have 2 plasma guns each and the sgt in them has a plasma pistol and a power weapon. I may change up the 3rd squad to have plasma guns too, but I like the idea of a a cheaper Storm Trooper unit for those point crunch games.

Release the hounds.

The Cyber Mastiffs and handlers will represent squads of 5 ogryns with an attached priest. For now I plan to leave the mastiffs on small bases. If I notice it starts to be a problem with my opponents I will upgrade them to larger bases. In two squads the priests/handlers are equipped with a shotgun. In the other the priest is armed with a powerfist to represent an evicerator. I have not liked how Cyber mastiffs have been represented in fan lists like the one from BOLS. However I think the stats of an ogryn are more of what I have in mind. I have seen up close what a police dog can do, these guys are cyber all metal monster dogs so they would have to have beefy stats. The only sticky problem I have is how to explain the ripper guns, but I don't plan to be shooting much with these guys.

So with 3 squads of Storm Troopers and 3 squads of ogryns I plan to use them in different combinations depending on what I am facing. Sometimes 2 suqads of Storm Troopers and one of ogryns or 3 squads of ogyns, you get the idea.

TROOPS

For troops I will have 6 squads of veterans. Each squad will have shotguns and 2 grenade launchers. No melta spam here.

These are the units I want to paint first. The list I am working to build is as follows.
HQ
275 Company Command, Straken, 2X grenade launcher, heavy bolter, astropath, master of ordnance, bodyguard, carapace armour
190 Company Command, plasma pistol, power weapon, heavy bolter, astropath, master of ordnance, bodyguard, carapace armour
045 Priest, shotgun
060 Priest, evicerator
085 tech priest, 2 gun servitors w/ heavy bolters
085 tech priest, 2 gun servitors w/ heavy bolters
Elites
215 Storm Troopers (10) plasma pistol, power weapon, 2X plasma guns
210 Ogryns (5)
210 Ogryns (5)

Troops
720 6X Veteran Squads, shotguns, 2x grenade launchers, power weapon for sgt, carapace armour

Transports
570 10X chimeras (borrowed from my IG army for now) 8 with multi-laser turrets, 2 with twin linked heavy bolters

Heavy
160 Manticor (for crowd control)
160 Manticor

Total
2985 abouts

Please bear with me; I have a family and a demanding job so my progress may be slow. Hopefully some painted models will come soon. Comments and questions are welcome. I hope you all enjoy.

Sorry for the lack of progress folks, the whole family was sick for the past 2 weeks. I am hoping to maybe get a unit or two done this week. I have my color scheme down, the only big hang up I have right now, besides the rain that keep me from priming, is what to do with the bases. I don't think I want to do a dry brused sand, but I don't really want to shell out a fortune for street bases. I will figure something out.

yeah me too, two small kids has really slowed down my production over the past two years. There used to be a time when I could get a whole army done in a week. ha not anymore, these days I am lucky to get one or two units done a month.

Well hello all it has been a while with out updates, but I finally have a few. I finally got some time away from the family and work so here is the results.

This guy was kind of a test model, but he will be fielded as an arbite priest in either an IG or WH list.

I also finished a unit of cyber mastiffs. I am thinking that I will be sticking with my WH list so these guys will be Arco-flagellants. If pressed to play in any type of tourny I will go back to the IG list, however my friends don't mind the WH book and this army is more for fun than anything else.

Here is a group shot of finished models, in a WH list they won't be in the same squad. There will be a 6th model (handler) for the cyber mastiffs but he is in the dip right now.

At first I was not too pleased with the bases on these guys, but it is really starting to grow on me. I wanted something that was gpint to contrast the coats of the Judges. I also went with a blue accent color for my army, as opposed to the traditional red. I like the red that a lot of other people use for their armies, but I wanted something more of a real police uniform or steroids. I hope you all like, comments welcome. I hope to get a full squad of troops done this weekend, but we shall see.

Now there's a police force! I really like the colors you've picked. The test model priest looks great. He could use another round of highlights (if you wanted) but the clean colors have always worked on arbites, I think.

I really like your choice of models, although, is there any modern pictures or sources of what Arbites look like? Those almost seem either too ceremonial or too little embellishments. It seems a little un-Imperial; but what do I know. I play Xenos.

Thanks, it has taken a lot of time and money at convention flea markets, eBay, plus hitting up some friends of mine that had some stashes lying around. I started with one squad from back in the day, and found a guy with about 3 and a half squads at a convention, it just exploded from there.

I think the most recent depictions of arbites from GW are the Necromunda enforcers and the cover art from the Shria Calpernia novels, which I don’t really care for. I like the buffed Judge Dredd look.

Hello Dakka fans I managed to get some more progress done this weekend. So here is what we have.

One full squad FINISHED

Here is a close up of the judge

A close up of two arbites and two grenade launchers.

I am pleased with how they have turned out. Originally I was going to paint the chin straps black like the rest of the uniform, if you look close enough to the unpainted models they are there. However after looking at the test model I decided to paint them flesh color. I have seen a lot of other people do this, but never really figured out why until now. I found that if you pain them black it blends in to the chest area and from a distance it looks like they have no chins. I am happy with painting them flesh because it helps for that square jaw look like Judge Dredd
I also decided to use shadow grey on the cloth areas of the model, it can mostly be seen from the back but up close it looks really cool. I think next I will do another squad of Arbites and then an HQ unit. Comments, questions or concerns are welcome, as always I hope you enjoy.

Thanks.
For the most part I will be sticking with a mix of the old models nad the current ones for necromunda enforcers. As for conversions I have a few head and arm swaps here and there. I have guys with heavy bolters that are SM scouts with arbite heads, gave some enforcers heads from the older line. Take a look at the pics at the begining of the thread. I am hoping in the future to do a Landraider prometheus for them, but for now I want to focus on getting units done.

Well hello everyone in dakkadakka land, it has been a while but I have some progress to report. The family has kept me busy, but I have managed to get a few things done this month. After some time I have decided that I will be sticking with the WH codex for these guys. I can still use the IG book if need be, but my friends are cool with WH and I have other armies for tournys. I have spent a lot of time and money on these guys with the WH book in mind so I want to stay with it. IG does not really have the right feel for Elites and Heavy support and I am not a big fan of the Bell of Lost Souls list. I do not like small games so I will be working towards my standard size game which is 2500 pts to start with. In that I will have the following:
HQ
Inquisitor Lord
retinue w/ 3x crusader 3x acolyte w/carapace & shot gun, sage, familiar, and astropath
2 priests
Elites
Inquisitor
retinue 3x warrior w/plasma guns, sage, familiar, astropath
6x arco flagellants
6x arco flagellants
Troops
4 squads of Iquisitorial Storm Troopers each with 10, a vet and 2 grenade launchers
Heavy
retributor squad w/4x heavy bolters
exorcist
exorcist
for transports
6 chimeras and 1 rhino

So for now that is what I am trying to get done. This is what I have finished over the past month.

A 2nd Patrol team (Inquisitorial Storm Troopers) that I finished, there are a few head swaps in here.

A close up on the head swaps.

Next is my Suppression Team (retributor squad) with 4 heavy bolters. I am pleased with how they turned out over all. At first I was not happy with the Judge, but as I was painting him he grew on me. The heavy bolter guys are metal space marine scouts. Other than head swaps there are really no conversions here. I think when I do the next one I might try and sculp the Arbite chest plate on the heavy bolter scouts.

Close up on the heavy bolters

Close up on the Suppression Judge. He is made from the Ultra Marine Teleon guy with a head and a bolter swap. I also removed all of the Ultra Marine symbols.

Backing up, here is a look at the Special Assaignment Judge attached to the cyber mastiff team (arco-flagellants).

here is a close up without the pups

This another Special Assignment Judge, used as a preist with an eviscerator, las pistol and carapace armour. I really like this guy, he is one of my favs in the collection. He is made from necromunda enforcer guy, with a head swap from an old school arbite, a power fist and las pistol arm from an IG officer.

Next a look at the big guy and his squad, the Chief Justice (Inquisitor Lord).

His telepath detective. Personally I think he looks like Christopher Lloyd from the Back to the Future movies. He even has that "GREAT SCOTT" look on his face.

Close up on the crusaders

Close up on the acolytes

The LAW himself. If there is anyone I like more than the guy with the power fist it is this guy. He is made from the old arbite Judge and the arms of the old IG Solar Marcharious. For those of you who have been following me you might notice that he has been altered a little from the original pics. I was never happy with the right shoulder pad on him so started to mess with it. Eventually I gave up took it off all together and remade it with a plastic scout shoulder pad. While doing that the left arm came off, so I had to re-attach it. I love how he turned out in the end. The only thing I would add is maybe an etched brass eagle to the right shoulder pad, but for now he is done and I don't really think I will mess with him again.

Lastly a group shot of everything painted so far. Not bad if I say myself. I have 2 troops, 1 HQ, 1 elite, 1 heavy support and 2 priests. A good amount of progress towards my 2500pts.

I hope you all like. I think up next will be another cyber mastiff team and then a patrol team.

Hello out there Dakkadakka I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and a happy New Year. It has been a while since I posted an update, but finally we have some progress. It has been crazy over the past few months with the holidays and family, plus me and a friend have been working on an Arbite/Witch Hunter vs. Eldar campain. Here is a link to our first battle report if your interested.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/418591.page

Any way on with the models this is what we have new.

First we have an Arbite Judge with his team, the will act as a Witch Hunter Inquisitor and retinue.

A close up of the Judge.

His Psy-Detective (just a astropath henchman)

A close up of plasma gunners (warrior henchmen)

Next is a 2nd Cyber Mastiff Team (arco-flagellants)

Some close ups of the Special Assignment Judge that leads them. In game terms he is just another arco flagellant, but I think it looks cool to have a model represent a squad leader for them. His power maul was donated to another project so I hooked him up with the open left hand from a Space Marine Librarian in Terminator Armour.

I have also finished another Arbite Patrol Team (Inquisitorial Storm Troopers). This is the 3rd squad finished; I still have one more to go for my 2500 point. There will be 2 more after that but it might be awhile until I get to them. Someday I will finish a full force org chart for these guys but for now I am just focusing on 2500 points.

Lastly I included a group shot of everything finished so far. Whenever I read a modeling blog I love to see group shots. That being said I thought I would include one when I have a major update.

Well that’s it for now 8 squads down and many more to go, I hope you all enjoy. Comments, questions, and concerns are welcome.

Hello again Dakka,
It has been a while since my last update. Only a small one today, another patrol team and some characters I have been working on.
First up …more lembas bread, yet another 10 man patrol team with 2 grenade launchers. I am sure this is getting boring for some of you, but I am really happy to have 4 of them done now. For my 2500 point list these are all I need, I have 2 more squads but I will not worry about them for a while.

Here is a look at the 4 squads together

Here are some characters I have been working on.
I was happy with how this guy turned out. He is converted from a standard Arbite judge with the head of a Necromunda Enforcer and his shotgun has been removed and replaced with a plasma rifle. When I run my Arbites as WH he will be a priest with a plasma gun, you are allowed one in that list. I really like the idea of a guy running around with a pump action plasma gun and in the WH list you can make it master crafted. In any other list he will just be a grunt plasma gunner with some extra flare. I was looking at the new sisters rules and saw that a confessor can take a plasma gun so that is a possibility too.

This is another model I have extremely happy with. He may be used as a squad leader sometimes, but I really wanted a second model to use as a priest with an eviscerator. This model is a Necromunda Enforcer Judge with the head removed and replaced with that Telion Space Marine Scout guys head. He used to have a plasma pistol, but some unfortunate Cadian officer donated his power fist. I will still probably give him a plasma pistol, but I need to dig through the bitz box and find a holster to glue on him. I will just say pistol X is in the holster, you can’t tell from the picture but he has a grenade in his hand which looks kinda cool.

Different angle, same coolness.

This is what he used to look like, cool but not quite what I wanted.

This last guy I have put up before, though not this good of a pic. It is Telion’s body with an enforcer head. The eagle on the helmet is a terminator icon. The suppression shield is from the necromunda enforcers. The power maul is a cut down sorcerer staff from the Chaos terminator lord. I like the look of this guy, he has that “lets stomp some hippies” look to him. This guy will be used to represent a Canoness or maybe an Inquisitor.

I think I will take it kind of slow for a while and work on these heroes, none of which I need for my 2500 pt list, but a nice diversion anyway. After them I will get back to business and work on some vehicles; chimeras, rhinos, and a couple exorcists. As always I hope you all like and comments are welcome.

Well today I have a small update. I have finished the guy with the plasma gun. I will be using him primarily as a Priest with carapace armour, and a master crafted plasma gun in my WH list. In a pinch he could also be just a cool looking grunt in an IG list or a Confessor in the new SoB list. For the most part I liked how he turned out. I did have to do a little work trimming and resculpting his chin due to some errors during the head swap process. I think he will make a fun character filled addition to the army.
