Hey I was wondering. I know we're all fairly in tuned to when GW does its price hikes. They give us notice. But about a year ago I added some FW items to my Amazon wish list and when revisiting the links yesterday I noticed the prices were higher.
Eldar Avatar (6-12 months ago) 50.00, today 52.00
Eldar Revenant Titan (6-12 months ago) 175.00, today 182.00. All prices in UK currency (I don't know how to make that symbol).
I don't ever remember see ForgeWorld post price increases. Does anyone? They's being sneaky. Buy your stuff now!

There was an increase related to VAT at some point. And then they levelled the prices off (or rounded them up).
That is as much as I have noticed from them.

Those are small increases IMO.
At least they aren't large price increases with decreased quality, like someone else we know... >.<

I was talking to a guy from Specialist Games at Games Day Chicago about metal/plastic/resin casting and such, and he spoke of the Price increases and how they are tied to the prices of commodities. One of the main reasons for GW switching over to all plastic/finecast is because metal miniatures have a high tin content, and tin is a commodity. Resin prices are relatively static and the oil used to produce styrene is less significant cost-wise. Resin casting allows them to bypass that all together and we get the benefit by allowing more plastic and resin products to be available to us for a longer timeframe.
What do you mean decreased quality? Everything GW produces now is miles above what they used to produce quality-wise IMO. New technology has allowed better detailed kits that cost far less to produce than the old manual methods. multi-part kits are designed with 3D software that digitally cuts the molds so that we can have more kits available to us for longer periods of time.
If you are talking about the sculptors themselves, that is really an artistic judgment of quality rather than technical product quality.

Amazon doesn't stock ForgeWorld itself per se. It has a WishList feature and about a year ago they made the a tool so that you could import things onto your WishList from outside of the Amazon stores. I just went over to FW and added a few things.

oh yeah...I'm not sure myself on that, maybe some initial QC issues. I have the Finecast Thraka, Yarrick, Lord Commissar, and Dwarf Lord and I haven't had any issues at all, they are all much better detailed than their metal counterparts.
Has GW been good on the Customer Service end with these complaints? Like FW is, readily replacing malformed or missing pieces?

As far as I know, yes. I've seen several instances though where both models were deformed in different spots and the persons just fused the good pieces together lol.
For someone like me though, who is a complete failure with exacto knives and greenstuff, I prefer metal. I couldn't fix the simplest resin issue without making the problem worse.
Plus I like the weight of the metal. I find that if I keep my metal deamon prince at my bedside at night that I feel more protected in the occurrence of a break-in/burglary where I could use the prince as a blunt weapon to overthrow the bandit in a hand to hand scuffle.

Yeah, VAT in the UK increased from 17.5% -> 20%, FW just rounded the figures so something that would cost £51.71 now costs £52.00 instead

Living in America I got to say that the VAT confuses the hell out of me. It shouldn't, but it does. I wiki'd it a couple of months ago, still foggy. I just think of it as sales tax and leave it at that...Except that I'm not used to paying sales tax when I purchase outside of my state. I guess that's what gets me.

Be fair, an increase for VAT isn't a price 'hike'. £2 on top of £50 is nothing.
The price increase last year (nearly 20% on some items), and the leap for Finecost, were "hikes" because they far exceeded inflation and VAt issues.

I figured FW would increases prices soon as GWS has jacked up theirs so much that, as another Dakkaroo pointed out, some items are actually cheaper from Forgeworld then are the GWS equivalents.
I'm pleasantly surprised the price hikes were so.. reasonable. 4% is a lot more palatable then some of GWS's more recent shenanigans.

Their GW kits are often cheaper, even adding in the postage (for the UK, anyway).
Kits just make it that much better.
[Update: I've been and checked, and their kits are now showing standard GW prices again.]
[Add on postage, and it'll cost more.]
