He was responding to a specific yell out from the crowd and he doesn't say "If you love me pass this bill", he says "if you love me you'll help me to pass this bill". Where was this speech? What were the circumstances? If this were a general speech I could see it being considered by people as odd, but if this is at a Democratic rally preaching to the choir it isn't that strange to say.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

You can be emotional and all that without saying "If you love me you will BLANK." Obviously, Mr. Obahmah wants us to give him everything while giving nothing in return. He doesn't love us, he's just using us to turn tricks
jk. It's just so weird to actually hear a president who I assume takes himself seriously using those words. Nothing wrong with them really but I do find it really funny
I think the big thing is that he's making it a personal thing. He's appealing to voters to pester their congressmen and representatives, and making it feel like it's a personal favor.

I'm sure that speech was only 39 seconds long and that there isn't more before or after it.
I don't think it is that strange for the leader of a political party to personally address its members.

Oh I know that it's out of context, but let's face facts here.
The Republicans are going to slam him for using "if you love me" either way. But now at the least, in order to criticize the phrasing they also have to be petty brats (as the norm) and potentially alienate some of their supporters.

All I know is that it's not to his party; he is traveling around the country making speeches, from what I've heard.
Also, forgive my ignorance, but in what political context do the words "If you love me" come into play sounding right?
I mean.... I didn't know Political Parties were in the same league as Frat Parties....

It's a poor response to someone yelling out in the crowd. He's relying (and has relied for his entire political career) on his personal charm to carry him through rough patches. Unfortunately charisma doesn't provide solutions.
That said, some of the rationalization going on in this thread is borderline absurd.

Neither does scaremongering your population. But hey, I can't think of a President who ever did that...

As opposed to the Republican fallback of "9/11!" or "He has no experience!".
I wouldn't let Palin run my toilet, let alone my country.

The the same rule for being a parent. I cant STAND it when I see parents try to be their kids best friends, rather then be their parent. My cousin does that with her daughter and my wifes, niece, her mom is the same way.
1 is 15, "married" and not only has had many sexual partners, but has her "hubby" sleep at their house all the time...in the same bed. Seriously WTF?!?
2 is a complete fething nutter, and as I type this, is in the metal health wing of the local hospital because she has some incredibly fethed up problems.
Sorry had to vent a bit. Go ahead, carry on, Obama is an idiot.
Wait, what? Not just the "married" part, but also that it needs quotation marks makes it even more disturbing.
I think what he means, is that they present themselves as such, but they're not legally married, either due to age or their state lacking the age ignoring statute for parent's permission.
