Hi Dakka!

Just heard a fascinating interview with a journalist called Goldberg. He has just finished an investigation into the Cannabis Market in the UK. According to him more and more middle class people, some families with young kids, are renting spare rooms or loft space to Cannabis farmers.
Some are even growing it themselves. In the middle of a global downturn it can bring in up to £10000 every 12 weeks. Now that is some big cash!
Goldberg was saying that he came across a University Professor, a Bank Manager, a working dad of two and a young family in the 'Jag and Gin' set in Cheshire who were all allowing Cannabis Farmers to rent space in their houses...
So I have to ask this Dakka, would any of you rent out your spare room to these guys if it meant easing the financial squeeze that is affecting all if us

Well considering the electric bill I would get from a cannabis farmer living and growing cannibis in my house I would say no.

A lot of cannabis farms destroy the houses they are made in. They seal up the windows, lay down soil and turn up the lights and heating. The house is ruined.

I'll put him in the shed, then. The tools can stay in the garage.

I'm pretty indifferent toward people who use drugs, but I think there's just too much risk assumption to be comfortable with this. Especially with the 'war on drugs' being what it is. Not sure what the fines for such a thing would be like in the UK, but here, it's by my understanding that if you have more than a dime on you then you get about 20 years.

Granted, it varies from state to state, but I don't want to be the one in a courtroom trying to claim that I had no idea what my roommate was doing with all of that dirt, fertilizer, and electric lights.

The problem arises with long term use sure £10000 is fine for 12 weeks. But the problem arises when they DONT LEAVE and your house is royally buggered with a powerfist due to it.

Energy spike for 12 weeks - er I had a LAN/short in my electric/TV blew up/stuff. Energy spike for a year = armed police raid at 3AM!

It has nothing to do with propaganda. Some of us have low opinions of these people from personal experiences with friends and family.

As to the OP, I wouldn't. I, too, have a low opinion of marijuana and its non-medicinal users. In my career, if I was caught doing anything with weed, I would get charged under two separate judicial systems. So double no from me.

No, I would have a low opinion of the individual who ruined their life, not with the one who enjoys alcohol in moderation. I would do the same with those who enjoy marijuana, but sadly I haven't met anyone who enjoys it only occasionally and who's life is actually in balance. Everyone I've met and know who does weed spend far too much money and generally lead poor lives. Again, these are my experiences, and my opinion reflects that. I never said I openly judged anyone who smoked weed instantly as some form of low life. I would judge you as a low life if you were indeed a low life, not simply because you smoked weed every so often.

I also see no point in it myself, and I'd rather spend my money elsewhere, but to each their own.

How about this, I'm jaded about marijuana users because of the experiences I've had with them, but I'm sure there are individuals out there who can prove me wrong.
