So, I'm trawling Amazon for books for my Kindle.

And I find this.

...Ok. What the hell?

Oh, and go down and look at the comments. All 5 star reviews, and they're all copy-pasted from other books.

Does anyone want to take the plunge and actually read this?

CAUTION: This book contains graphic depictions of sexuality and violence. Not recommended for children.

This little warning combined with the fact that there's a naked chick on the cover leaning against a space marine (who's a Raven Guard... even though it's apparently about Blood Angels) makes me morbidly intrigued. I wasn't aware Amazon sold fan-fictions... fairly sure that's kind of illegal.

Almost makes me wish I had a kindle... almost.

A part of me wants to buy it, just so I can give him a 1 star review.

Just read the preview on Amazon and that is all you'll need to know. Poor punctuation and spelling ("Sangainus"), and a complete lack of the fine diction and grammar that sets the knightly Astartes apart from Space Marines in other science fiction settings. They speak like modern American marines, complete with lazy contractions, with a few "For the Emperor"s thrown in. Might as well be the team from the Sulaco wearing power armour.

Now I gotta read it, a truly bad fan-fiction is like a fine wine, it's something to be savoured.

I read the first two pages. It wasn't TERRIBLE, but if I found it on fanfiction.net I wouldn't read it, let alone pay for reading it.

Of course it's truly awful, it's fanfiction.

But on the reals, this kind of thing happens all the time. And yes it is illegal, but it still happens. A friend of mine is currently involved in trying to get something she published for free removed from Amazon, where someone else is attempting to sell it (as their own original work). One of my co-workers has twice now paid for fake, fan-written ebook versions of the seventh Harry Potter book.

I never trust Amazon.

The reviews make for interesting analysis.

Jessica: 4 reviews.
this book and 3 mobile phone cases.

JohnJ: 34 reviews.
This book, 32 phone cases/protectors and a tub of lego.

Brian a: 6 reviews.
This book, another by the same author and 4 gel cases for mobile phones.

(Is anyone else seeing a pattern emerge here? )

no surprise that Amy, JerryP and JennyD, apart from all having similar name types, have similar review histories.

Wonder if this is just the author, in which case I hope the book's are more fully developed and individual than his Amazon reviewer aliases!

No prizes just a fun competition. Which is the odd reviewed item out?

I completely agree, but some fanfiction is sometimes but rarely better than the actual fluff put out by GW.

Wrong
It was a trick question, it's the book that is the odd one out, all the other items are legitimate products!

Hang on a mo though Joe!
If the books ain't legit how can we trust that the gel phone cases and lego are not knock offs too??!!

Reminds me of one author who put her Star Wars Ep IV rewrite 'Another Hope' up for sale, and then got very upset when Lucasfilm LLC, or whatever it's called, threatened her with attack lawyers and had Amazon take it down. Apparently she thought, 'it was just so friends and family could get a copy of my story,' was a legitimate excuse for her actions.

Any author too incompetent to even get the punctuation of his title write deserves whatever he gets. I'm still trying to decide whether he was quoting from, "He who dares, wins," Or was asking the question, "Who dares win?"

"Who Dares Wins" is the motto of the SAS

Must be legit as BL always have a hot nakee babe draped over a SM on the front cover.

Why would we e-mail them about their own book?

It's clearly a legitimate BL publication, I mean just look at it.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Eye of Terra.

Knowing it's 'fan fiction' and seeing the naked crapart chick on the cover is more than enough to keep me away from this 'work'. Fan fiction with the Raven Guard might make me take a peek, but those two together with the naked chick has 'Angstridden-overweight-blackcloak-emo-geek' plastered all over it.

Worst. Title. Ever.

"AM are bunch of half human-half robot monkeys who keep tech working by punching it with a wrench And their tech is so sophisticated that you could never get it wrapped it out" thing a LITTLE to seriously. It also goes "Tau tech is so awesome I wish I was Tau and not some stupid Human" thing.
