I am working with the Battle for Salvation crew to provide coverage for their event.
Internet access at the site is spotty and so we will be working on posting nightly updates.
Friday night was the team tournament. Each team consisted of 2 players, each bringing 1000 points.
It was a three round tournament and it ended up being very close with the difference between first and second place being a single point.
Check out our coverage here:
http://www.equinoxhobbies.blogspot.com/2011/10/hrefhttpspicasaweb.html
We will be continuing coverage nightly so check back for updates.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

I am not sure how many were in the team tournament. I believe the main event had very close to the limit of 64.

I believe the top 8 (not all undefeated) were: I could be wrong on players/armies, but I believe this is close to correct. Mike Brandt - Imperial Guard (3-1) Mannahin Chaos Space Marines (4-0) Ryan Holliday's GK (4-0) Mike Somerville's Guard (4-0) Nick Nanavati's Tau (3-1) Jorge Ruiz BA (3-1) Neil Gilstrap's GK (3-1) Eric Hoerger Space Marines (3-1) Automatically Appended Next Post: Site updated with top 8 and top 4 matchups.

Timmah, did we meet? I've seen your name around here for years but did not realize you were there.
It was a fun event. I was the only person to win my first five, and my game with Mike was a nail-biter. Lost by my failure to declare Go to Ground in time on a unit on the bottom of turn six (which we knew would be the last).
Nick made a great showing with Tau for a guy who's barely played the army. It was a bummer that we were paired and one of us had to be knocked out Sunday morning. I think we both had a reasonable chance to advance against the field in the top bracket.

Ragnar also in a sense lost because 10 veterans in a toe-to-toe continuation engagement (i.e. no one charged) with 9 chaos marines saved 3 flak armor saves and dealt 6 wounds off 12 attacks, winning combat.
It was an absurdly close game.

I'm going to post the full scoring spreadsheet with brackets to both baldandscreaming.com and battleforsalvation.com in the next day or two, but here's some interesting information in the meantime:
We had 56 players at the event. We were a few shy of our 64 target going into the event and then a few more people dropped, but we're happy with both the number of people who came and, more importantly, the quality of players and hobbyists.
I wasn't there on Friday or Saturday, but I kept in close contact with the organizers and I'm not aware of any major issues. The sportsmanship scoring (simple thumbs-up/thumbs-down) supports the impression that everyone seemed to have a pleasant experience. There was only a small handful of thumbs-down ratings and just about every single person was given a favorite game vote by someone else who they played at the event. Additionally, the thumbs-down votes almost all occurred within the earlier rounds, suggesting that tensions actually eased up as the day went on rather than intensified (usually we see the opposite trend with sports scores).
It was a 7 game event. The first 4 games were used to determine placement in the single elimination brackets on Day 2 which consisted of 3 more games. With 56 players we were 8 shy of our goal of 64 and this meant that the top bracket would consist of 3-4 players who went 4-0 on Day 1 and 4-5 players who went 3-1 on Day 1. This actually worked out well and several players expressed that they preferred this system because it means that losing your first game (or any single game) doesn't knock you out of contention for Tournament Champion. Bobby likes to compare it to the wild card system in professional sports, which I think is an appropriate analogy.
Overall, we're very happy with the growth of the event year over year. The venue this year was greatly improved (it's the same place where the Conflict GT is held) and we increased our headcount slightly as well. We also drew upon a greater pool of well-known players, many of whom drove and even flew very long distances to be a part of the event. It's difficult to express how much we appreciate the lengths you all went to in order to come play some games with us and we hope we made it worth the effort.

Aren't bodyguard a 3ed/4ed style retinue and must be ran with the 'els?
Other then that a very solid list.

Congrats to Neil for winning tournament champion, Mike for overall, Ragnar for kicking some serious ass with CSM and proving how much of a factor skill really is. A huge thanks is going out to Bob, Ed, and John for running a fantastic event. And Fritz for running the incredibly hilarious 500 point tourney.
Winterman- The bodyguards simply say that you need to take a commander to unlock them and they don't take up a slot, they aren't a retinue. That said, the credit of the list has to go to Rich Therkorn, I borrowed his tau and used a very slightly tweaked nova list. It was not the tau list I would prefer to run, but it's deffinitely very solid.
Edit- Apparently I missed a sentence where tau commanders are only IC when they don't have body guards. This never really made a difference in any of my games, since I could have just as easily assigned 1 bodyguard to each commander and had the same effect, but I would like to apologize for missing the rule. Now the internet can call me Mr. Cheaty Face!

I know this did not occur in the top bracket because I was judging those games personally. I was in touch with the organizers during the first day of the GT as well and I never heard of this coming up.
Players were given 2.5 hours to play (on Day 2, it was 2.25 hours on Day 1) after which no new game turns could be started, however any game turn that had already been started prior to time being called was permitted to continue until its conclusion. This was strictly enforced throughout the event as far as my part was concerned and from what I observed of the other judges.

Closest thing I have read to this was on MVBs blog, in the Game 1 batrep:
We were given various different game end-times at various points, and this resulted in the game being called despite their being more time left to start a new turn, b/c of confusion here. The net result was a game Brad himself said he didn't want - one where we both played "weird" b/c of Kill Points. He won by 46 VP on final tiebreaker at the artificial deadline, but we rolled to continue the game and played out the rest to see what would happen, which was a several hundred VP finish in my favor. Basically at the bottom of 5 Straken, Al'Rahem and some vets charged Belial and his surviving couple terminators, won the combat, but couldn't get the last wound off Belial or the last 2 terminators down. By Turn 6 both died, but the artificial game end prevented that mattering.

Yeah, it looks like that happened on the first day which I wasn't able to attend. Bobby said there was some mistake made with the announcements (specifically, that when time was called no new turns could be started, but that turn would be finished), but I wasn't aware that it had impacted any of the games--I'm sorry to hear that it did.

It's no big deal. It affected one game (mine), and they quickly made announcements and process adjustments from Round 2 onward to prevent it happening again. Hiccups happen at events all the time. Nonissue, really. Besides, I battle back as the underdog all the way to the final round, and I still won Best Overall, so no impact on the standings as far as I care.
