Subject: NHL 11/12 Season thread - Trash talk and tomfoolery
What the title says. Last year's playoff thread brought out the hockey fans of Dakka en masse. Even folks that claimed to "not watch much hockey" got knee deep in the gak. Now that the season has started, let's get some chatter going again. Cheer for your team, rip on other fans, and just generally dish aboot hockey.
I gotta say Roberto needs to get his head checked. I don't know where it's at, but it's not in the game.

and we need to spend money on hair upkeep. With the length of Lou's contract we can't have his roster photo change from "flowing locks" to "chrome dome" over the years.

OF course it isn't him, Roberto wears the number "1" for the number of times he washes his hair each year...

Just curious, does it feel good to type "Jets" and not mean "Coyotes"?

Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.

HOCKY SUCKS!!!You wanted sledging and i sledge i did...
Nah im just trolling. I dont know much about hocky but i watch it whenever theres a match on tv. Im always waiting to see one of those ledgendary brawls break out.
My hocky knowledge consists of these following facts. Luc Robitaille appeared on Bones, that the sport as a whole helped pioneer one of the worse hair styles ever and that my favourite team is the Predators. I like them purely because of their name. How are they doing?

Blah, I see the Blues struggeling against the Hurricanes tomorrow since they're on a three game winning streak...and they did well on their last two games. I just have to hope for the best

As cool as it would've been to have the Coyotes be the team selected for the move, I think anyone that still yearns for it is just holding on to old memories. Some things in Hockey are worth hanging on to, some aren't. At this point, anyone that still considers the Coyotes the true Jets is just spewing nonsense in my eyes. 1996 was a long time ago. They've been the Coyotes for almost 16 years now. It's time to let go of that old memory and live in the now, I think. Though I hear Quebec wants the Nordiques back...
So to answer your question, hell yea it feels good. I loved the Jets as my #2 then, and I love em as my #2 now (even if they do have Byfuglien! )

To put it lightly, pick a better team

Hopefully Luongo is ready to play as hard as the rest of the boys against Nashville toni...Yea, you know what? I just can't convince myself that he will. Ahh well, at least the rest of the team will put on a solid show up until they get pissed at him for dancing like a trout
I can't believe the Loafs are off to such a good start. The Jets are like free comedy now. Everyone forgot how terrible they were in Atlanta during the summer. When Nik Antropov is one of your 'stars', you're in trouble...look at the Laffs a few years ago.
I reckon Calgary and Ottawa are done. Iggy and Alfie are at the end of the road. They got their olympic golds, but no cup. Too bad, especially for Iggy. Maybe they'll trade him Toronto for Kadri and a 3rd round pick. Sounds like something the Flamers would do. Van city is now suffering from the familiar "We went and lost the cup" syndrome a la Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa. They'll get into the playoffs in 7th or 8th but will be turfed in the first round by Detroit...who continue to rule well into their 20th straight year. I hate the Wings, but you gotta give it to the management of their team.
I hope the Habs stay right where they are for the next decade. The toilet bowl suits them.

Indeed, I really hope that the "Losers since 67" joke doesn't dry up anytime soon. I'm still partial to this pic, and the fact that the guy actually spent the money to get the slogan on a jersey:
That guy could teach most trolls a thing or two .

Well, the Laffs got fisted tonight by the Bs. I hope they rebound against the Habs on Saturday.
Is there a similar Canucks Jersey with "SORE LOSERS SINCE 94"? Wait, wait that guys a Philly fan. They boo Santa Claus and Cancer Awareness. That explains it.

If a Canadian team is going to host Lord Stanley's cup, it damn well better be the Winnipeg Jets (my newly adopted favorite Canadian team).
I'm surprised to see how red hot the Penguins are this year, especially given the absence of Crosby and Malkin, it seems that Staal has really come into his own as a player and the rest of the team has learned that they don't need them to play well. Not to mention Fleury has been blocking shots better than ever (IIRC).
I still haven't decided whats going on with my beloved NJ Devils though. Are they actually performing like they should be or are they kind of just bumbling through and getting lucky? They have a light schedule this month, so sadly I don't think anyone is really going to have the slightest idea until next month.

Pens were terrific down the stretch last year in the same situation. Bylsma is a terrific coach...he has them just playing their system no matter who's in the lineup. "The Real Deal" James Neal is off to an amazing start, especially considering he hasn't been playing on Crosby's or Malkin's much with the injuries.
*IF* they can get their big two back and stay reasonably healthy otherwise, I don't know how the Pens aren't one of the very top favorites to win it all. They have goaltending, a strong corps of defensemen, the obvious talent at center, and a disciplined system.

I think they are the favorites, judging by what I see now. If they maintain their current level of play, they are going to the cup, no doubt about it. I will refrain from stating that they will be nigh undefeatable w/ the return of "Malkinby" ('Croskin' just doesn't sound right), as they have a really good team dynamic going right here, and sometimes thats hurt with the introduction of someone else, even if they are superstar players.
