Hi Dakka!

So, the first Zelda game was released on the NES in 1986. Since then there have been numerous releases under the Zelda tag and I was wondering if any of you have a favourite Zelda game and if you do, why that particular one?

My personal favourite is A Link To The Past, just love it. The way it plays, the music and the story are all top notch. It's the only SNES game that I have played all the way through three times...
So come on guys and gals, let's celebrate 25 years of Zelda!

Like ALL the Zelda!

But I will have to say Wind Waker,it was nice and sunny, bright and colourful.

I am a die hard fan of Zelda. Played each one 20 times.

I'm going to go with Windwaker. I still play that fething game. It's amazing to say the least. The art was (and still is) radically different than any other Zelda game for the consoles, and the story is even better.

Spoiler:

This thread just outlines what I feel the best thing about the Zelda franchise is: no matter how many games they make, just about every one will show up as someone's personal favorite. None of them are really, obviously superior to another, even when graphics improve over the years.

My personal favorite is a dead tie between Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time. I loved Ocarina of Time's dungeons, and I remember being really, really creeped out by the Forest Temple as a little kid. The atmosphere was just amazing. As for Majora's Mask, it was the first Zelda game that made me realize just how dark the games can be. The whole plot revolves around the world itself coming to an end when the moon hits Termina. Ocarina of Time is the same way - you actually travel into a future where Ganondorf has taken over the world and become king of Hyrule. Meanwhile, Wind Waker involves the entire kingdom sinking into the ocean, and Twilight Princess has virtually the entire world becoming overtaken by the darkness.

For such lighthearted games at times (Tingle, anyone?) the series can be really, really dark in its stories.

Gotta say link to the past. It's what introduced me to the series. Wind waker is what made me forget about the series.

Ocarina of Time.

I absolutely detested Wind Waker, and Majora's Mask was too complex in its design for my 7-year old brain to handle. Might have to dig it out at some point.

Other Zelda games I never played, or didn't play enough of to really get an impact from (see: Link's Awakening and Twilight Princess).

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

four swords was my favorite.

OOT and Majora's Mask are close seconds.

Followed by Twilight Princess, wind Waker, and the Original as close thirds.

The rest were ok, except Zelda II. That one was bad.

Tough one. I'd have to say Ocarina of time though. Close seconds are Majora's Mask (Since it is by far the darkest game in Zelda) and Link to the past.

Was not a fan of the Wind Waker. I am looking forward to Skyward Sword though!

From what I have read about it, Skyward Sword is another quality title. Games TM gave it a much heralded 9/10, saying that it's a fitting swansong for the Wii as we know it...kind of makes me wish I hadn't sold mine!

Ocarina of Time, one of my favorite games of all time. I got that baby for Christmas when I was 8. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are also awesome.

What's with all the Wind Waker hate? I personally really enjoyed it, especially the story.

And as for Zelda II, it was an awesome game, but fething hard...I never actually beat it haha.

Phantom Hourglass was a great one! I loved customizing your ship and the Phantom Knights made for a unique challenge. Spirit Tracks however....meh, didn't even finish that one

Zelda died after Link to the Past. Generic 3d bs wasn't something I wanted from what was a good, innovative series up until that point.

Edit: So Link to the Past and back, to answer the actual question instead of just trolling

Ocarina of Time, with Link's Awakening as a second. Mostly because the game designers must have been doing drugs when they designed the Wind Fish.

Do it man. Majoras mask gave me the same problems too when i was a young'n but when i played it again later and could wrap my noggin around it, it turned out to be a great game. Another part of that MM i didnt like was the 3 day limit you had. That freaked me out coz i was thinking it ment real days and i knew i was never gonna do it that quick... Ahh stupid young me.

Probably Link to the Past and Windwaker... although the triforce hunting was totally forgettable in Windwaker, just about as forgettable as the wolf parts in Twilight.
