I know that they aren't exactly buddies, but are they like the Imperium and Chaos or is there still the fact that they're all Eldar?

They are, ultimately, all Eldar. Witness the Dark Eldar that turned up to assist Iyanden, as described in the Dark Eldar Codex. And the Imperial Governor who was using Spirit Stones as jewelry that the Craftworlders sicced the Harlequins on, who then sold him into slavery to the Dark Eldar.

However...

The Dark Eldar view the Craftworlders (and the Exodites) as deluded self-righteous fools who deny their own true nature. The Craftworlders view the Dark Eldar as dangerous amoral degenerates. Neither side is particularly friendly toward the other, and the Dark Eldar have no problem hunting their cousins for use as slaves.

Dark Eldar war against one another until there is an external threat, brother against brother. The Craftworld Eldar are their cousins.

Ideological differences aside, both are still Eldar and would likely aid one another against an external threat, tyranids or necrons or daemons etc. if the situation was dire enough.

they could of just taken the soul stones back and then return the governor rather then empowering the Dark Eldar

Also at least the Soul Stones aren't in the hands of Chaos and being fed to Slaanesh

Actually I hated the Eldar since Dawn Of War Winter Assault because fething Farseer Taldeer betrayed General Sturnn(one of the coolest IG generals, only 2nd to Creed) and blew up the titan which killed the General

Too bad her soul stone was recovered, because I want that bitch's soul to be eaten by Slaanesh

Your entire family disappeared five years ago.

Last year you saw this guy who was wearing the mummified fingers of your family members on his necklace (you recognized them from unique custom-made rings that all of your family members wore). So you hired someone to kidnap him and recover the fingers (and rings).

And now you want to let this sick bastard go free!?

That's why the Harlequins handed him over to the Dark Eldar.

I should add that given the typical levels of corruption and degeneracy present within the Imperium, it's quite likely that he deserved getting handed over to the Dark Kin even without the Soulstones. An awful lot of Imperial Governors are vile, loathesome degenerates.

^ This.

Im not a big Elar fan but reading about them is always interesting. I always thought they hated eachothers guts. I guess not.

To put it in context i guess its kinda like this... If the Earth was to be invaded by extra terestials im that almost every country in the world would glady join hands to fight them off, even if we all usually dont get along.

Kinda the same thing, yeah?

But its the Dark Eldar... why not just Simply kill the Governor rather then damning him to a life of servitude and torture?

Because the eldar felt like that is what he deserved. He didnt deserve death for what he had done, his crime demanded something a bit more cruel. A lifetime of slavery and torture followed by a horrid death is what he got and most likely what he deserved.

Because the Governor deserved more than just a simple death. You have to get into the psyche of the Eldar and properly understand this. They are a vengeful lot, and if they are wronged by a "lesser race", they will do what they must to remind them of where they belong in the galaxy (they're an arrogant lot too).

So slavery and torture it is for him, and who better to administer such things than their dark cousins? That way, they dont have to sully their own pristine hands, and the Dark Eldar get a free slave out of it (and they do love their slaves).

I'd say the governor got what he deserved, honestly, if he knew what he was wearing.

That reminds me a bit of Irish history.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

It's a frequent concept in clannish or tribal societies. Your family is your family. You may not like some of your family members, but they're YOUR family. And whether you like them or not, there's no one else around to watch your back when you're in a dangerous situation. It took Nationalism to really replace it as a concept - i.e. instead of being a member of a clan or tribe, you were a member of a nation and your loyalty ultimately belonged to it.

But its the Dark Eldar... why not just Simply kill the Governor rather then damning him to a life of servitude and torture?

Because letting him die would get him off the hook too easily. From the Eldar point of view, the guy deserves to suffer.

Oddly enough, given the massive celtic influences on the eldar and Dark Eldar Irish history and myth are pretty much the prime influence on their background- Seelie and Unseelie court Sidhe, especially..

As an example, walk into an irish bar (a real one, not a tourist one). Listen to them insult the other half of ireland (because the bar will either be southern or northern irish, regardless of where you find it in the world.

Then try to join in, if you yourself aren't irish..

A knuckle sandwich with side order of booted nads will be your prize

(i'm Irish enough to get away with this in the right bars, but it's not recommended for non-irish..

Or you could do what my brother did, in his infinite lack of wisdom...

Walk into a crowded Atlanta bar on the anniversary of Ghettysburg (sp?), whistling yankee doodle dandy..

Don't let stories like this surprise you. Craftworld Eldar are very cruel towards "lesser" races. They would see billions of humans die for the convinence of their Craftworlds and have ravaged entire alien/human worlds of life for this reason. Their cruelty is the result of an extreme arrogance, which is rather bizarre considering this same arrogance led to their race's end. It's why events like Hive Fleet Kraken or the Imperial invasion of Alaitoc are satisfying to read.

Not that they have the monopoly on arrogance.

Their extreme decadence led to their fall... the Craftworld Eldar have effectively purged that... while the Dark Eldar have ran with it.

They're not "cruel". They're indifferent. They don't care about you unless you can directly affect their safety or have settled on a Maiden World. And in the latter case, some craftworlds have even helped the settlers relocate.

Compare that with...

... the IoM has a policy of exterminating your species if you can't trace your ancestry back to Earth. And sometimes even if you can.
... the Tau will give you the option of joining the Greater Good. And if you say no, then they'll force you to join.
... the Orks will attack your world, kill everyone that resists, enslave everyone who doesn't, and either work the slaves to death or set them on fire. Because watching people run around while they're on fire is HILARIOUS!
... the Tyranids will eat you.
... the Necrons will probably kill you. Or maybe not. We're not sure on this because their goals are apparently getting overhauled in the codex coming out at the end of this week. However, I'm pretty sure that whatever they want won't involve fluffy bunnies and gifts of chocolate.
... the worshippers of Chaos want to enslave you. Or kill you. Or make tentacles sprout from your forehead. Or all three at the same time. It depends.

I grew up and spent most of my life in the South. That was not the most brilliant move ever pulled.
At least it was in Atlanta (which is fairly cosmopoliton) and not in some small town off the back roads.

Realistically, I can see the Eldar's point concerning the Govenor. Had I seen some fat, pompus guy wearing the soul of my Grandfather around his neck like as a decoration, it would upset me a bit too.

The codex story specifically noted that the only reason the DE saved Iyanden is because they get a good chuckle from watching the Iyanden Eldar agonize over having to power up their various wraith units. Basically the Iyandians are worth more agony to the DE alive than dead.

Yup. There are other little items here and there in the codex that gave me the impression that they still view their cousins as *slightly* better than the rest of the galaxy. That's not to say that they won't happily leave a craftworld to burn if it suits their purposes. But keep in mind the fate of the other group (i.e. Tau) that the Dark Eldar "helped out" in the codex fluff...

And then there are the Harlequins...
