So veteran player here but honestly the only swarms I've played against are nurglings and they have eternal warrior.
Just looking to see if I'm correct on how this combination works.
1)Swarm is hit by a blast/template weapon that causes instant death resulting in x number of unsaved wounds.
2)Swarms are vulnerable to blasts/templates so this becomes 2x unsaved wounds.
3)Since the weapon causes instant death, this results in 2x swarm bases destroyed.
Correct or no?

You are correct but I look at it this way.
You take 3 Str 6 hits from a blast weapon. Instead of 3 hits you just took 6 hit. You then remove 6 bases. Now if those blast weapons were Str 5 then you'd just take 6 wounds, losing 2 bases.

That isn't quite correct there. It doesn't double the hits. Every unsaved wound counts as 2 two wounds. Slight difference there, but it is a difference.
You then remove 6 bases. Now if those blast weapons were Str 5 then you'd just take 6 wounds, losing 2 bases.
That's the way I see it as well.....I just wonder if there is a different argument.

Alright, that's what I though. Don't really fear necron scarabs at all anymore. Mech IG has too much stuff that can ID them. If they want to spend the points to pull off the tomb-spider shenanigans to get the turn 1 assault, then they can go nuts.

The problem isn't what to shoot at them it's that half the time they are accompanied by nightfighting and the crazy charge range.

And let's not forget that a good player will make sure his Scarabs are getting cover saves, which since they have stealth will generally be 3+.

Yup, yup. Well aware of that, but I'm mostly thinking hellhounds,flamers, and heavy flamers (as I run those anyway) so the night fight range and cover is a bit of a moot point.

Scarabs can get a first turn charge on a vehicle. I'd fear that very much. As for there strength over all it's questionable but to vehicles that didn't move fast... they will destroy with them with no problem.

I'm not terribly familiar with the GK codex, unfortunately. Does he have any sort of protection against getting stunned/shaken or immobilized? 'crons can dish out a ton of glancing blows.

Yep, he's a monstrous creature. I use two with that setup above, and I LOVE killing scarabs with them. As it has a 12" range i also outrange you with shooting vs your movement as well....

If you roll the dice and go first, you put your models down.
I put my scarabs across from the field from your tanks and I have the Storm Lord Special Character. I then roll a 4+ and steal the init.
I make more scarabs and I put them in front of my 3 units of Scarabs. I now have scarabs that are 20.5 inches away from your battle lines. I move 6, fleet of foot 1-6 inch's and charge. So that gives me 19-24 inch to move. So with a 6 I'm at 39.5 inches across the table and hit your tanks on the deployment line.
Now that is how scarabs can wreck a mech army. If you had more than 1 tank on the line then you are asking for trouble. The necron players has a 67% chance of being able to hit vehicles on the deployment line.

What infantry for a mech army? If you don't give the scarabs some respect vs vehicles they are going to make you pay dearly.

Oh, nice. T6 W4 3+/some invuln I'm guessing? Yeah, that'll be a pain to deal with. I don't know how much he costs but if the scarabs can eat his armor save, it might be worth the sacrifice.

The Dreadknight is not something you want to throw scarabs at. Your Heavy D's and D's would make short work of him. Hell a C'tan with Entropic Strike and Time's Arrow would be more than a match for the Dreadknight.

And your redeemer dies. I'll give you an example.
You make the mistake of getting assaulted first turn.
13 scarabs attack. 52 hits. Needing a 4+ to make your armor -1 means 26 negatives. Your redeemer is a wreck before they even get to roll to pen.
You only moved 6 inches.
52 attacks, 50% hit at 26 hits. 50% of those get a 4+ and you are looking at -13 to your armor. Now you have a 1 armor. Of course you now just took 26 penetrating hits.
The scarab player decided he feels lucky after you moved 12 inches.
52 attacks, needs 6's to hit, so 8-9 hit. 50% bring down your armor to -4 or -5. Your armor is now only 9 or 10. If it's 9 they can still glancing hit you. If they rolled great they could have taken you down to 7 or 8 armor and can pen you. You do get to kill them next turn but your Redeemer is going to die very soon to regular fire.

Clarification for the timing of this Entropic Strike:
1. Roll to hit
2. Roll Entropic Strike to reduce vehicle Armour
3. Roll to Pen/Glance against reduced vehicle Armour
Is this correct?
