Cruising in my CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORT

Let's get 2 things straight:
1: Don't expect any additions to this thread after this first post. This is most likely all of the Tau that I will have painted and posted within the next 3 months.
2: I painted some of this stuff when I was in 6th grade and tau where relatively new to the 40k universe.

Taken with my brand new Nikon:

My fire warriors are my oldest unit. This was from when I still used Farsight as my general. I have 3 squads of these gun lines.

Their mount has been recently freehand-painted.

This guy has popped open tervigons and rhinos in his past.

This is his cousin, Loui.

This is Captain Buck, as I like to call him. He is the leader of my pathfinders that are still WIP. I'm making ghillie suits for them.

I have just recently started using washes on my Tau, so please excuse my poorly painted FW and devilfish.

You lost patience after just one hour?

And was surprised about the lack of response after your two initial points?

Anyway, here's a bit of constructive criticism; considering they are desert Tau it would suit them to have some desert themed bases.

I know, the bases are sub-par. I should really fix that...

If you are in a fixing mood, then a slightly thinned-down wash of Devlan Mud (darker), Gryphonne Sepia (lighter) or Ogryn Flesh (warmer) would do wonders for the armour on the Fire Warriors.

Would badab black or incredibly watered down bestial brown work?

Badab wouldn't add any color to it, so I don't recommend it. Don't use watered down paints as a wash unless you have matte medium since they will pool up and you'll get nasty rings at the edges of the pools when they dry.

So Devlan Mud?

Yeh Devlin Mud is probably the best choice here.

Like the stripes though, any plans to put it on all of them?

Well, I painted these when I was in late elementary school, so I don't know if I'll go back and make major changes such a striping. I probably will wash, as it's easier to do that with 30 troops than striping. They once had corresponding squad stripes (red squad, green squad, blue squad).

Wait, if you mean camouflage stripes, then yes I will be.

Never knew you did tau. Then again, it's pretty hard to miss the fact that I do tau.
The FW, fish and crisis suits there are about the same standard as mine, so I can't give much advice. Washes would really help, though. I don't particularly like your tau skin colour, either, it looks a bit pale. Still, a wash would probably help with that.

How are you planning on making the ghillie suits?

I agree. Shas'ui Johnson (Halo Reference ) looks VERY pale. I should change that. A devlin mud wash would be truly beneficial for my more organic people. Badab black works well with suits, but not FW, I guess.

As it turns out, Squidman, Loui was my first crisis suit. I painted him in the beginning of middle school (that made me popular )

Yeah, yeah. Laugh it up. I've only done washes on the suits, and that's why they look better than my troops. I painted the FW in the beginning of middle school, so expect a repaint in the next year or so.

Here's a Female Pathfinder I sculpted. Be nice, it's my first sculpt and the image doesn't do the mini justice.

Tau dont really have hair...it doesnt grow like that. It grows in pony tails mostly. Shadowsun has a ponytail (albeit a gigantic one).

I know, I just liked it like that. What? You've never seen other sculpts of tau with full heads of hair? Just my preference.

My main issue is why would a pathfinder forgo armour and have massive cleavage.

There's pointers on how to make femtau here:

I was going for the look of the Medivac pilot from StarCraft II with the tight-fitting bodysuit with some sort of life support tube around the chest. That's what those poorly sculpted tube things are. There's a life support control node near the belly. It's going to be painted similarly to a diving suit, with only the face and hands painted as flesh. As a sniper, I didn't want her to look too weighed down with plating, besides the traditional thigh armor and gauntlets. If I ever do another sculpt, I'll make it similar to yours. I've always admired your mini, and it's an honor to actually meet the person who made it.

I didn't make that xD Hell to be fair I only actually stumbled across that earlier today.

I only started tau in november to compliment my DE I've been doing for years.

Would be better once clearer pictures are up so I'll wait for those before commenting too much on it.

Looks alright, I like how it's holding the rifle at least.

Thanks, and you're right. I should take some clearer pics.

Well, here are the retakes of he femtau pathfinder:

The face is still a bit blurry in the pic, but it isn't much to see, anyway.
Here's the back:

Should I try another tau sculpt? Recommendations are welcome. I'd like to sculpt something that I could learn from, to hone my sculpting techniques. I'm a beginner at this, so be nice.

In reality, it does not look like a boa, but more like the fringes of a winter jacket that looks like it is unzipped, as nothings wraps around the neck.

BTW, I don't make arrow to the knee jokes anymore because I took an arrow to the knee.

Rule #31.

Look it up.

And I know what you mean, somethings just look different IRL.

You used to make arrow to the knee jokes, and then you took an arrow to the knee.
