I just thought this was worth posting and kind of sad. I was picking up paint from the local comic book store/warhammer and all the jazz stuff. A guy comes in and asks if anyone sold a ton of chaos stuff to this shop. Poor guy had built his chaos army for years. Someone broke in his car and lifted his entire army. He stated, "It was not even the money I care about but the time and energy I put into the army." I relate to that, for sure. What would you do Dakka folks?

What else is there to do but hope you can find it somewhere? If not you'd have to start from scratch and a fair few probably wouldn't if the army was a reasonable size.

Well, it's an excuse to start a new army. However, I would be pissed off. Considering the amount of time you spend on every army. Specially if the whole army was Painted.

#1 make sure the crime is reported to the police. Okay, if they're police like in my area they will do nothing at all, but the crime needs to be reported.

#2 contact every games club & LGS in the area, and a bit further. Ask them to put notices up if possible and include the crime number.

#3 as previously suggested watch eBay and local listing pages like Craigslist, Gumtree, etc.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

I was about ready to snap a friend's neck for throwing dice at one of my models cause it was doing well (Fully painted Ghazghull model) Yeah if i found the person who was responsible for stealing my orks I wouldn't think twice i'd assualt them. We as gamers invest too much of ourselves into the hobby not to avenge them in such a fashion. Not that i condone violence but just saying that "I PERSONALLY" would do that .

Man people like that make me made, I could understand breaking in and taking money, cds, wallet, keys, car, ect but the army is a low blow indeed. I am grateful i play orks and my army would be rather unwieldy to rob from me as my carrying case is nearly the size of me! But for that guy he has my sympathies

It always gets me when people steal stuff like this. Any of our local GW staffers who've been around a while could tell the painting style of any of the regulars, lots of people can recognise their friends' armies and painting styles. So as soon as it gets sold, it becomes obvious. But still, people still steal home made swords that are distinctive, livestock and chickens that are the results of generations of breeding and are shown in all the local shows so everyone knows them, medieval re-enactment arrows and archery gear, home made armour.

Stuff that is hard to sell, easy to identify the owner and has more sentimental than monetary value.

Stupid, selfish idiots.

Yeah, report to police, claim on insurance, then watch Craigslist, Ebay, and send pictures to all the local game stores that might buy used models.

Most criminals are stupid. I knew a guy who got his laptop back by answering the Craigslist ad the thieves put out for it, lol.

Sucks for that guy though.

What common crook steals chickens?

Seriously. They'll take anything. Everything i mentioned in my post has happened to people I know.

Though there was the time we were broken into and they stole all this junk jewellery I'd been given that was worth nothing and I never wore and probably would have given away anyway, but missed the $1200 cash sitting in a drawer. A drawer they went through.

Well, IDK about medieval reenacting stuff, but some of the stuff my WWII unit could sold for pretty penny.

Most of the cases we carry minis in look like gun or tool cases. You can make decent money on either at a pawn shop, and a common crook won't take the time to check inside a case before taking it.

I've often stepped away from my models in a gaming store with no problem. Guess I been lucky. I naively figured that there was an unspoken code of honor or something that you don't mess with someone else's minis. But, the dishonorable are everywhere. This is an unfortunate reminder of that.

Well, with warhammer you can pretty much be sure that it was a fellow player who took your stuff. I highly doubt the average thief would bother with lifting toy models.

Also, assaulting someone over warhammer figs is silly.

You should just cut their break lines and pour sugar in their gas tanks.

I work in insurance and I actually thought about what I would do if my house burnt down or everything got stolen... so i've listed everything I have and have it stored in my email in the event something like that happens so I can claim it accurately and get money from my insurance company.

What would I do once I got that money? I likely wouldnt buy 3 armies again, but invest in 1... i mean i have over 7k points in Necrons and I think thats what I would go back to get again. Sadly though, as I purchase all of those new models, all I would think of is all the bloody time and effort I would need to put back into it.

It'd be a heart break for sure :(

Feel bad for the guy

Sadly, I've heard that it is a good idea to check nearby dumpsters if your army is stolen. The thief probably thought they were tools or guns, and when they discovered otherwise, may have just chucked them out.
