What national anthem is best in your opinion?
I know that we all love our national anthems and hold them dear , but I think we can also be objective when it comes to others.

In my opinion it is the Soviet National Anthem from 1977:




followed closely be French Marseilles:

There are no other national anthems...

Oh Canada is pretty good, although:

'Scotland the Brave' as it's light-hearted/cheerful and it doesn't reference irrelevant historical victories...

Whitney Houston singing the US National Anthem in 1991 is the best of all the National Anthems.

Oh well, I'll nominate the (de facto) national anthem of Sweden. I've always felt that it's a bit more restrained than other national anthems *cough*US/France/Soviet*cough*





As a side note, does any other country out there have problems with racists "hijacking" the national anthems and spamming youtube comments full of racist bullgak (more than usual for Youtube, that is)?

Are you kidding me? Lol 99% of the Australians i know down right hate our national anthem. Part of being Aussie is not knowing more then the 1st verse of our anthem and even then you only ever mumble the parts you do know. What our National Anthem should be is Waltzing Matilda. Of course the pollies have their heads shoved so far up their rectums and wont make this the anthem because its about a criminal who steels a sheep and they dont think its an appropriate song to represent our country. News flash pollies, we were a penal colony. I think a national anthem about a crim is entirely appropraite.


Anyway. As far as good anthems go i'd have to pick the Scottish one. It got the cool drum roll its nice and short, Its a song for busting skulls and who busts skulls better then the Scotts? Also the Dropkicks do a bitchn' version of it.

Oooh ooh oh. Just thought of another 2 songs that could be used for the Australian anthem. Sure they might not be as offical sounding or whatnot as an anthem should be but i think they would be suitable none the less.

And I must say that I am surprised how many patriots are here ( and some of them call me a patriot for being Imperium supporter. Thank the Emperor I am not alone ), most of you guys vote your own national anthems.

I even see some of you posted some anthems other then national ones. In that case I vote for this anthem to be the very best of them all:

Must say I like the French Anthem, and of course God Save the Queen/King, great when you hear it at the olympics but my favourite has to be this!

South Africa (and 4 or 5 other African countries) use the same national anthem, and it includes 4 different languages! Pretty cool huh. I like national anthems that aren't all about "we're cooler than you" or "we hate you for killing our ancestors"

Patriotism.. I never met anyone who describes themselves as "fiercely patriotic" who isn't basically a bigoted fether.

I think the whole idea of a national anthem is a stupid one. We would be better served having the same song for every country. And I'm pretty much the exact opposite of a hippy, but I've no time for what is basically bound to amount to a "my country is better than yours" thread.

So I go with the Klingon one as well.

I think is is because people get "I have pride in my Country and Heritage" confused with "my Country and my way of thinking is the best in the world and everyone else should act and think like us" confused. I consider myself patriotic, but I am the first to admit that my countries have shortcomings that need to be fixed and that just because I am proud of them does not make place them above others.

Actually yeah, in light of the above I think I should clarify that I am not in anyway opposed to the English, I was just annoyed that so many people got the anthem wrong!
