So, who has played it and what are your thoughts? As to mine, really enjoyed it, I was getting the game anyways, already got a Collectors Edition pre-ordered, but I wanted to see if any of the changes to the gameplay had been negative, and thankfully I would ay they have all been pretty much excellent. From the taste of the opening sequence though, the game is going to be epic. The assualt rifle for example felt much more meaty, and the ability to go full auto, helped out in some close situations where I had multiple Cerberus bearing down on me. The melee attack, or 'heavy' melee attack is also a nice addition, and I'm going to have to remember I can get up close and personal if I want to. Didn't try much in the way of the Kinect set up, but thats only going to happen if not sharing the room with the rest of the family anyways, so not really that often. Overall the Demo has confirmed to me Mass Effect 3 will be a pleasure to play, and really looking forward to March the 9th now. Oh and 12'000th post. Think I need to mark that with a piccy, lets keep it in line with the thread.

I just started Mass Effect 2, does it count?
But I am so hooked up, I certainly get Mass Effect 3 once it touches the 10€ Mark. A shame it doesnt support Steam anymore.

I'm trying to stay away from the Demo tbh, love the game don't want to ruining it for myself, btw did you get the demo for console or the PC Morathi ? wasn't able to get the hang or mass effect on the xbox, pc worked a trick but that's just my prefence

Don't ruin the story for yourself! but yeah enjoy ME2 it sets up ME3 a peach but like ME2 you don't have to play the first game to understand what goes on but ofc it helps but that's just the OCD of playing the ME and DA series I have

Pretty good, seems to be a tiny bit more challenging than Mass effect 2 which lets face it was a piece of cake.
Had a quick shot of the multiplayer, seems interesting and i will definitely try that again before i the game comes out proper.

Just finished downloading the client. I'm staying away from single player until the final game is out, but I considered multiplayer fair game (do ho ho) and gave it a go.
Was pretty entertaining for how basic it is! I could see myself spending a few hours there, most likely with friends though.

Got it on xbox, started downloading as soon as I got up and moving yesterday, about 11am, (hey was up late on Monday, plus day off. ) and I think it took about, five hours to download here in the village of download speeds forgot. Odd though, unless i've missed something, no sign of these Kingdom of Alamur unlocks, and I've compleated the Demo twice now. Regarding waiting, I can understand that, the first twenty minutes of the Demo is pretty much the intro of ME3, although it is stuff I had read about in games mags so I'm not really worried about playing it. They then jump ahead and do a level which is further into the game. This one I didn't mind doing at all, as it is the level that Mags have been covering for months, where you fight Cereberus operatives, so alot of what I did I had seen in screenshots or the recent Kinect feature vid.

APOLOGIES if this is difficult to read, most of the points I have made have copied from a thread I had on another forum, but the points still stand nonetheless.
- combat got drastically improved and is more than just hiding behind cover (ME2)
It does seem more intense and involving (with the more intelligent AIs)
- new skill-trees are awesome
I agree, definitely a huge improvement.
- facial animation got improved
I actually thought it wasn't up to scratch, I noticed it a few times during the opening cutscenes where it wasn't as fluent or smooth. I just put it down to being an early model, but I have no idea for sure.
- improved graphics. Especially lightning and faces
- interaction with environment is more accurate (shaking hands, touching walls etc.)
I agree, but I don't think it's a (mass)ive improvement. Something about the faces just irks me.
Also, the environment interaction has been improved, combat rolls, climbing obstacles and ladders are all small, but important, improvements.
- nerfed conversation choice. They removed all the neutral options. At least in the 2 missions parts you are playing.
I think this may just be because it's the demo, and thus has limited content, hopefully.
- the intro was rushed. No explanation on how you got to earth, back to the Alliance. I felt like thrown right into the unknown.
DEFINITELY THE worst part of the demo. I had no idea why shepard was on earth (wasn't he being trialled for the Arrival DLC sequence?) and how the reapers arrived at earth so quickly. Also how the Normandy was in alliance colours again, and you were fighting Cerberus. If someone could fill me in that would be great, but I really hope they explain it properly in the full game. Having to read the back story online from a 3rd party instead of an in-game explanation seems very awkward and unprofessional.
Combat improvements. Definitely flows better this time round, the weapon mods are pretty cool and biotics are actually worth a -blam!-. Grenades are pretty cool too, the Omni-Blade/Biotic Falcon Punch is very satisfying to use.
- Music. 'Nuff said, Clint Mansell is a BAWSS! The sound design in general is wonderful.
- Atmosphere. The initial level of Earth being besieged by the Reapers was harrowing, especially when the child (who may or may not be 'real') is killed. Looking out over the cities getting blown up and seeing the Reapers screw everything over was very well done.
- Skill-tree improvements are very impressive and well-integrated. There are more imaginitive upgrades to things like Singularity now where it can detonate.
- Some rather poorly written lines, nothing quite on-par with Kai Leng "CEREAL KILLER!!!!" but some of Shepard's lines are downright cringey. "SOUNDS IMPORTANT BREH!"
- the cutscene at the end of the first mission where the normandy just hovers there for god-damn ages - ARE THE REAPERS BLIND OR SUMMUT?! I didn't understand this bit.
- It also felt that this time round, Bioware has catered to the generic market more, with less and less hardcore RPG elements to it.
- Another thing is if the reapers are already ramming earth, will Shephard be running around the galaxy helping random citizens or will it all be 'YO, I NEED HELP FOR EARTH SPEHSS ALIEN BREH, COME WEHT ME.'
-Something about the faces...they seemed strange
-Anderson has a derpy run (VERY annoying)
-Chose an Infiltrator and didn't get a sniper...dumb, but it's a demo so hoping it's just because of that
Didn't feel like an RPG to me at all...
It felt like an action Third Person Shooter with a few RPG elements added along... I feel that it has become less RPG-y since the first game.
AS FOR THE MULTIPLAYER...
Man... it makes me goo buckets. The co-op element is really fun, and the way you level up to unlock new stuff makes it addciting. I also like the way that you can purchase 'packs' similar to trading cards which contain random equipment with the chances to get uncommon stuff.
Only gripe about the demo in general is that there isn't enough long-range combat which makes snipers more effective. I feel this will reflect in the whole game as it seemed to be this way for ME2.
Overall I think the SP part of the demo was a little disappointing, but the MP made me happy again.
Also, a small piece of me thinks it might become smaller and more linear than the last, with more resources devoted to MP.

An excellent demo for what it is supposed to be - a demo.
The ending cutscene on Earth was heart wrenching, I have to admit. Very well done, and always something that Bioware has done well. Reminded me a lot of when you are flying off with Jack after you leave the research facility.
Am I the only one that though the faces looked...weird? I don't really know what it is, but they just seemed...rough. It was most noticeable on Anderson, but I'm sure it was just me not being used to it enough. Ashley, her face in particular, looked gorgeous. I don't know, maybe its just Anderson being extremely ugly.
The combat is great, much improved.
Multiplayer is fun. Progression is cool looking and I really like the "trading card pack" system they have.
The most noticeable improvement to me was the sound of gunfire and tech abilities. Better than BF3, IMO.
ME3 will very likely be Bioware's greatest game to date, and possibly one of the greatest of all time if it just follows up the story of ME2 correctly.

The atrocious textures and butchered dialog options are most likely a result of the 2 gig demo requirement so I won't harp on those.
However, the animations, especially facial and sprinting are as bad as they were in the leaked beta footage. God almighty, it's not like hiring a few mocapers is so hard, though I guess nothing could ever save those plastic faces from looking ridiculous when they try to convey emotions.
The little dialog I heard made me cringe, but that happens often with games, so I won't blame Bioware specifically for weak writing. However, the scene with Shepard and Anderson talking in the middle of a goddamn warzone with Normandy just waiting to get a lazor beam up it's ass was bad. And a pixel kid had to die so that we'd know that Reapers are evil. Gimme a brake.
The co-op is fun when you get past the ridiculous concept of having sprint, evade and cover sticking under one key. Hint: don't sprint if you don't have to.
The random item and perk boxes are annoying but I guess they thought it would prolong the MPs lifespan.

Bioware is the best at crafting emotional and great stories currently, I don't know what you are talking about. Mass Effect 2 was an excellent game, both story wise and gameplay wise. It cut some things that people liked in ME1, but they are putting those things back in for ME3.
ME1 was the start, ME2 was the evolution, and ME3 will be the final and best stage.

Bioware is the best at crafting emotional and great stories currently, I don't know what you are talking about.
Emotional stories I agree (they've actually gotten better at it over the years) but story quality in terms of craft has gone down since they were acquired by EA but that's to be expected I guess.
Mass Effect 2 was an excellent game, both story wise and gameplay wise.
No to the former yes to the later for the most part.
It cut some things that people liked in ME1, but they are putting those things back in for ME3.
My only qualm with cut content is the lack of an inventory and itemization. And I suppose I wish they'd kept the heat system (I wasn't that attached to it though).

So what was wrong with the story, Lord of Hats? I really don't understand what you are getting at.
Yes, EA has the touch of Szass Tam, but I don't see what was wrong with the story with ME2.
The main story line wasn't very strong, no, but I loved going to all the different planets and parts of the galaxy.

My problem is that ME2 is Side Quest the Game (first and foremost though DA2 beats it in that department). You spend all your time running around collecting party members rather than dealing with what I assume is a rather imminent crisis. My quips about plot holes, consistency with ME1, suspension of disbelief etc are too much and I just don't feel like going into it. In short the story was poorly crafted and flowed very unnaturally. And of course the ending was just a huge " WTF?" and not in a good way.
The one thing I will credit the game with is that it produced my favorite ME character: Legion. Legion's just plain awesome. Not HK-47 but I'll take what I can get
