Hi all,

Just wanted to share a new discovery which might be useful for others,

Website called www.storage4crafts.com

From which I just purchased one of these

http://www.storage4crafts.com/shopx/product.php?productid=868&cat=0&page=1

Something to put all my conversion bits in and keep them organised.

Will declare an interest as the websites owners are friends of mine, but I have no financial interest in this, it is purely sharing something others may find useful.

That's actually a really good idea. I'm in the US and getting it from there probably won't make sense with the shipping cost, but yeah, I am really unorganized now so I should get something.

I use a similar case for my bits. Actually I use 4 of them.

The difference is that they are about the length and width size of a standard piece of paper and they will stack in a standard "letter" sized file box.

You can find them for 2 dollars each at Hobby Lobby (http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/craft-storage-box-666735/ )
or other craft stores and they are often called bead or thread cases.

I used to use them for army storage also as seen in this gallery...

As a lover of compartmentalization, I have seven parts containers of various sizes currently in service (not to mention the dozen coffee cans and several boxes), with a brand spanking new one waiting in the wings. That said, I would never buy the thing (even assuming dirt cheap/free shipping).

I'm always amazed at how expensive some seemingly basic items are, but ~$17 seems a bit ridiculous for a plastic box. I regularly see similar (roughly the same size, removable dividers, etc.) containers for half that price, though they don't offer five years of tarnish protection. Then again, if that protection is justified, I must be gold-plating my miniatures, so I doubt I'd be too put off by the price!

Best I've found, stateside, are the ones Eilif posted (same manufacturer, rebranded by different stores). A tad flimsier than the fancy stuff, and non-adjustable (barring hacking up the molded dividers), but I can't argue with the $3 I paid for it.

But gold isn't going to tarnish unless you store it somewhere nasty. I guess if you're gonna bury your bitz box, these might be necessary

I recently found a huge carrying-case for my models at the hardware store. It can hold easily 10k pts of models, even more once I set up a small shelf in the large compartment for foam. It was only $20-ish, and even has a top compartment for paints and modelling supplies, including the little plastic divider boxes I have for my bits.

I place my sprue and other various bits in zip-lock bags, label them with a sheet of scrap paper inside the bags (so I don't have to cross out the name on the outside if I want to use the bag for something else), and store the bags in a shoe box. I feel it is much more efficient. I can fit a lot more into a smaller space. I can even put entirely new sprue inside if the boxes if I plan to assemble the miniatures at a later date.

Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.

Wal Mart sells them for $2 each. I use one per army, 2 if I need more. Dirt cheap and a good solution for keeping everything organized, so heads in one bin, right arms in another, left arms in another and so on. I actually need to buy a few more and spend a day organizing my misc. bits.

So, general feedback is too expensive for not any great advantage? The movable dividers are actually pretty useful for bigger things like flight bases etc.

Bear in mind we don't have Walmart here in the UK, so these things are not so easy to come by. I would also say that it is twice the size of those listed for $2.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

There are versions with movable dividers for less than half of the price of the one you picked. As for me, I've not found that movable dividers are very usefull. I have one of my $2 cases that I've cut out a few of the dividers in to store my larger bases inside. Usually, the movalbe dividers only come out in one direction, so you have long slots, but no wide slots.

I use a Rolykit for my vehicle bits. It has lots of adjustability and holds about 4x as much as a bead case.
http://www.rolykit.nl/Company/original.html
I use the large version. I wouldn't have bought one for the 20 bucks they cost, but I found one for 2 bucks at a resale shop.

Asda!. It's owned by Walmart.

I use old plastic box's from the business cards. but I am finding now I'm moving into the 1500pts bracket a more organised system is needed.

I was just going to get one's similar to that shown, any hardware store will have a nuts and bolts box.

True, but at current rates I could get 9 of the cheep ones, without shipping. It may still be a great deal in the UK but no one in the US is going to buy.
Also, the thought of putting unpainted bits near "patented tarish inhibiting additives" gives me pause. Can I be sure that won't melt my bits/cause issues with my paint?

Finally, I use one of these:

Paid about the same price, removable dividers, a Bigger section suitble for holding finished models needing repairs(and my tools), convient handle, and double sided (hard to see in the picture) and at only 3 inches thinner (you don't get that wide front space where the wire and pliers are) it's got 3 times the storage space.

After over a quarter of a century of doing this hobby all those boxes are too small.
I now use plastic tubs I bought from my local Chinese take-away.
They come in 2 sizes which is really helpful.
Some will ask why I don't just use the ones I got food in - well, for whatever reason, they seem to absorb the oil from the food which then leaks out over time - ie greasy bits & no one wants that...

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I also went to my local sporting goods store and picked up the cheapest tackle box I could find for $5. Had positionable partitions and everything.

I also like to leave things on sprues, not only so I don't have a bunch of stray bitz lying around, but also so I can conveniently store them in drawers without worrying about things going flying everywhere.
