Some metal, but most of what I listen to would probably be disparagingly referred to as "AOR".

I don't listen to rap, dubstep, dance music generally (rare exceptions - Daft Punk have made ONE album I will listen to) or country or Western.

Sweet, I don't what attracts me to metal and it's respective subgenres, It's just so good.

I'm surprised that there's alot of warhams players that listen to metal and how we all have similar tastes in music.

Pretty much anything.

In the past week the music that I've voluntarily listened to (either put the CD on, or searched out and listened to more than once) has varied between Pop, Ska, Hip-Hop, Rock & Roll, Metal (I believe the precise term was Mathcore), electronic, dance, folk, ambient, math rock, country, classical, soul, R&B, Grime, spoken word rap, and That "Real Mitt Romney" mash-up.
(Theres probably a few that I've forgotten about, or mis-labelled)

I'd like to put the band " Design The Skyline" as some poser stuff, it's god awful and bad autotune. Yuck!

I'm a DJ, hence the name.

I listen to a vast amount of varied music, form 50's and 60's to Punk, Metal, Rap, Rock.

However. My musical creativeness revolves around what I call 'computer generated electronic noise' Drum and bass mainly, Trip hop & dubstep (before it went commcerial).

You can find one of my old Mix's from an online radio show i did back in 2006 here http://www.equinoxyork.net/ Tenth one down the right hand side of the page.

Most times i listen to just about anything. I used to be a metal head. Till i realized that its all the same. So right now i have been listening to certain rap, Mostly sub culture/underground rap. If its on a top 40 list i don't want to hear it.

Sub culture rap
Oldies 50's-70's
alternative
Speed metal, and any other metal besides black and death metal

And a ton of bands i don't know where they fit in, B-52's all the way!

I can listen to almost anything, but dubstep I avoid like the plague. And generic pop that gets pushed like it's the best thing since sliced bread.

You'll be less surprised over time and become entirely burnt out, jaded and cynical. Just a forewarning.

And I listen to: http://www.last.fm/user/cannerus

The only things not on that list are what I listen to in the car (mostly top 40) and on my pod (the exact same)... and what I listen to on Pandora, which is basically more techno dance-y stuff.

I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be looking at. People are stating opinions and I see nothing that establishes any sort of concrete actuality versus poser-dom. Maybe the world would be a happier place if we didn't try to take sides on issues that offer no real reason to do so and just let people like what they like?

True, though I don't like it when people call something which obviously is not heavy metal, metal. You know what I mean. It's a misclassification of something.

I can understand that. Kind of like when someone says "punk" they could be describing anything from the Ramones to the Distillers, which are worlds apart. Or if I say pop, you think of Britney and the like when I could mean John Denver

It's the same principle that establishes high school social groups based on music. Music is one of the most powerful forms of expression, emotion, and personality, so it follows that if you like a certain kind of music, you're likely to have something in common with other people who listen to that kind of music.

As regards to the metal-wh40k connection, I would say that it's grimdark and violence being matched up with grimdark and violence

At the moment: trance, techno, electronica, drum and bass, dubstep, and trip hop.

Historically: all that stuff, plus alt metal, punk, pop, ska, and basically everything that isn't country (besides Marshall Tucker).

So if I were to name a few bands you could accurately classify them?
