Nurgle Predator Driver with an Infestation
|
I am having some issues, And i was hoping for some help with them. I have played some games. and i keep finding that my plague marines lack some back line fire. So i changed my list to the following.
Daemon Prince
MON, Wings
Plague marine squad
8xmen champ with power fist, 2x melta guns, rhino with dozer blade
Plague marine squad
8xmen champ with power fist, 2x melta guns, rhino with dozer blade
Plague marine squad
8xmen champ with power fist, 2x melta guns, rhino with dozer blade
Plague marine squad
8xmen champ with power fist, 2x melta guns, rhino with dozer blade
Chaos raptor squad
8xmen champ with power fist, 2x melta guns, icon of nurgle
Obliterator cult
2xmen
Obliterator cult
2xmen
Obliterator cult
2xmen
2000 points on the nose.
The whole point behind this list is an all comers list, and a base guide line for higher and lower point games. I plan on using a rhino wall to shield the raptors and the prince so they can move up to meet with the things coming forward. and to be able to take objectives with some speed. The reason behind all the meltas is for those land raiders that make it on the table, and so i can assault after shooting into a unit. I was thinking having the oblits in the back line would give me the much needed horde and tank pop that my list needs. Other than those i don't have long range fire power. What do you guys think? Should this list be good for an all comers list? Or is there something i should change? The reason why i have over looked tanks, is because one good shot and they are gone. And they have either anti tank, or anti horde but not both. Whereas the oblits can do just about anything and still get a cover save and are multi wound models. Just need to watch out for lascannon shots.
Please help me out if you guys would.

Looks like a pretty solid list to me.
Sorry I can't be more assistance than that.
One thing to consider I guess would be how this would deal with horde armies. You seem to have plenty of melta for mech lists, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem

Oblits and their plasma cannons. That and rapid firing squads and hoping that they didn't bring 100 models. only way i have to deal with horde armies.

Horde armies really are going to be your trouble, but the solution isn't always the plasma cannon. Plasma cannon is best for clumps of elite troops, not the best for hordes. Never underestimate the power of a twin-linked flamer, and all of your oblits have that option.
Another option is the rhinos. Dozer blade isnt going to do you much good if you're moving around 12" like it sounds like you will be. Consider swapping for a combi-flamer to add a little anti-horde in.

You have a point there. Thank you for your advice. Is there any other issue you can see with this list? Maybe not enough troops? A unit that isn't really going to be able to do anything? I am stuck on this list till i have the models to actually get to play it and see how it will work. I only have 2 games under my belt as a chaos player. I am used to playing the xenos races that go splat when it. So if there are any chaos players that can lend a voice and tell me what they think and what units they have used to a good effect, it would be a great help.
Thank you for all your help thus far.

Your raptor squad is a suicide deepstrike unit so I wouldn't give it the power fist as you won't be able to use it the turn you arrive. I'd stick with a min squad of 5 with melta's. If you drop a single plague marine from each unit as well as the raptor squad you may be able to fit in another plague squad? Not sure but it's worth a look. If not then another Prince would be ideal. Especially a lash prince to move around those hoards.

Fluff-wise, 7 is Nurgle's favoured number, so I'd say it could be quite fun to do just that, and drop each squad down one number, if you're interested in a theme army.
If you are indeed looking for a themey army however, I wouldn't take a lash prince... They're nice but they're not everything, and certainly don't fit into a 'Nurgle specific' army

I see just having the one deamon prince just getting shot up. Also running a unit or two with plasma guns could be help full. Other than that I like it. I would atleast try it out and see from there.

The army is a solid nurgle army. So no lash prince. The squads being 8 men is just to toast the balls of fluff nazis around where i play. The raptors aren't a suicide squad. I move them up with the army. I though about plasma guns, but not being able to charge after shooting them is a huge thing for me at this point. The daemon prince will get shot up, but i can get him in cover behind rhinos and keep him safe, but what other Hq should i use? a non winged lord? a winged lord? I can change the prince to a jump pack lord and have a few points to spare. what you guys think.

Here's the thing about the daemon prince and "keeping him safe". At best, you're giving him a 4+ cover save. More likely, you're just going to be shot up. Remember, as a monstrous creature, if he can be seen at all, he can be shot at, and giving him 50% obscurity is what's needed to get a cover save. He will be a tough cookie at T6, which is nice against small arms fire but completely irrelevant to heavy guns; they'll still wound you on 2's.
Daemon princes in general follow a tried a true philosophy: one is good, two is much better (and if three were possible it'd just be broken). You've kept your current DP fairly cheap with only wings and the mark. Plus they have a serious benefit none of your other lords will get at that point value, and that's Eternal Warrior. Never underestimate that power.
Try dropping a single man from every squad (including the raptors, maybe two from them in fact), getting rid of the dozer blades, and getting yourself another identical daemon prince. Give them both nurgles rot if you really want to be tricky, and run them together into combats.
Against vehicles on the charge, that's a potential of 10 attacks that can get a maximum pen value of 18 (didn't move, all 10; moved, 4-6; moved a lot, 1-3). Against infantry, come on...it's a bunch of STR 5 power weapons at WS 7. That's a whole damn squad of death, not to mention the annoyance if you do give them both nurgles rot. It's enough to kill a couple more every round. Oh, and remember that Eternal Warrior thing? Yeah, you could care less about force weapons.
And do remember that with two princes running wild, they're bound to draw heavy fire, but will last longer and give some real cover to your other squads, which are just as nasty.
You mentioned not liking the idea of plasma guns because then you cannot charge after firing...well why do you want to charge with plague marines anyhow? You're I 3, so unless you're charging someone with powerfists or equivalent, why do you want to get into CC so badly? All you have is the one PF, the rest are just standard CC attacks at STR 4. If you're close enough to charge, you're close enough to rapid fire with bolters and such. 7 guys, 2 with plasma guns, hitting on 3's. That's 10 bolter shots (meh, say 4-6 hit), and two plasma gun shots (again, say 3 hit). If you roll a gets hot, who cares? You have to fail your 3+ armor and your 4+ FNP for it to matter (which, if you run the math, means you have to fail a 2+ roll). All said and done, you're probably going to kill 3-5 regular marines, which is typically half the squad. You get assaulted next round, but who cares? You deny their extra attack, you've already killed half of them (or caused them to panic and run), and you've got a powerfist waiting to rape face.
Just my two cents.

Bring down your plagues to 7s, Remove the dozer blades as they are crap (unless you plan to move 6 inches on difficult terrain). With your new points try to bring your oblits to this
3x Oblits
3x Oblits
2x Oblits
Also add icons to each squad and I'll suggest replacing Raptors with Termies
3x Termies, 3 Combimeltas so you can drop accurately...
And lastly... hordes hate lash

First of all, can people quite saying lash. There won't ever be a lash prince in my nurgle army. I am not going to run a run of the mill army just because its a better build. I hate following fluff but just saying bring lash in a thread that says plague marine help is just getting old. Thank you to the people who are actually helping while keeping the idea behind the list in check. Moving on, The reason i want to get in close is to avoid them getting the charge. Yes being i3 hurts, but with the better toughness and the FNP roll i stand a good chance of living if they don't have the extra attacks. While giving me more attacks is always better. The plasma is a great idea, and more than likely i will try it out in a list of some kind.
The raptors aren't there to deep strike in and die, They are actually there to be apart of the army and move up with them. Just because they have meltas doesn't mean i want them do die a firey death after deep striking. Seems kinda waste full in my eyes. I have thought about terminators, but they are just to slow and i don't want to deep strike them in. But it is a thought that i have been thinking about.
What about this, dozer blades off the rhinos, drop the prince down to a lord with jump pack and try and get the points for a daemon weapon.
I like my squads at 8, It really seems to help alot more than i thought. 7 is a nice number but that one extra guy sitting there is really nice to have. i hear what you guys are saying and i will try out some of the things you have said. Everything besides just running lash/oblit.
There was the idea of running combi flamers on the rhinos to help with some horde kill. Do you guys think that this is a good idea? or should i just save the points and go some where else with them?
The main issue i am having is running into a point limit issue. The chaos Hq's are pretty much 140+ to have one that is descent that will fit with my army. Maybe a non jump pack lord? Running around in a unit of plague marines? Is an icon of nurgle on the raptors really worth the 50 points? The raptors aren't a suicide unit mind you. Would their t4 hold out? or should i keep that on them? Like always thank you for the ideas and i hope you continue to help me out.

Hi
First of all you have messed up your math somewhere.. This army comes out to 2006 points.
Now You want to take a All nurgle army.. Well in Fluff Nurgles sacred number is 7. So we drop a guy from each squad, this gives us 106 points to play with.
I would also drop the PF from the raptor champ. Personaly I would give him a PW or twin LC's. So we give him here a PW. They also dont need the IoN here so swap that for a IoCG. This gives us another 70 points.
Drop the dozer blades ( I like them but we are trying to get some points here) and add another 20 points to our pool.
I would change one PM squad to a Champ with a PW and change the Meltaguns for plasmas and drop their rhino. These are you home/DZ objective guard and dont need a rhino, since they dont need to go anywhere. This gives us another 35 points.
So now we can make an army list like this
Deamon Prince, MoN, wings
Deamon Prince, MoN, wings
7x PM's champ, powerfist, 2x meltaguns, Rhino, Deamonic possesion
7x PM's champ, powerfist, 2x meltaguns, Rhino, Deamonic possesion
7x PM's champ, powerfist, 2x meltaguns, Rhino, Deamonic possesion
7x PM's champ, powerweapon, 2x Plasmaguns
7X Raptors Champ, powerweapon, IoCG 2x meltaguns
2x Obi's
2x Obi's
2x Obi's
Thats 1999.. on the nose....
Now you have the Obis hanging back blasting away, with a unit of PM's to guard them and your home objective. The three PM squads can now cross the feild in speed and safety with DP's rhinos and your twin Princes and the raptors can go cause some trouble in your opponents backfeild. I know you want a true Nurgle army but Obis cant take a mark and in all honesty the T5 on the raptors is wasted since either they will get ignored untill its too late(since you opponent will more than likely be focused on the two large DP's headed their way,) or if you DS them they will get Blasted with big guns that will ignore the added toughness. You can still paint them green. You could also drop the PM sqauds plasmaguns for flamers and drop a raptor and give them the IoN back. Or just drop 2 raptors for the IoN.

If you are having a point limit issue... and since you insist of having 8 man plagues... I think 3 sets of troops is more than enough of objective claming. Removing 1 Squad of plague will give you 256+ points...
As for the combi weapons on rhinoes. I only buy them when I have spare points.

I like the above list but as far as rhinos go...
The only upgrades worth taking are really combi's and possibly havoc launcher if their objective camping. Daemonic possession on rhinos is just to expensive for what you get...IMO
the only unit as a whole i would think of replacing is the raptors, i don't feel like they add anything your army doesn't already have or that it needs.
With the points saved from that raptor squad you could have another squad of PM or some suicide terminators tho i know your not keep on them. combined with daemonic possession points you could maybe boost the obi's??
good luck

That list is something to look at. It seems rock solid and stays with nurgle. I thank you for your comments. The raptors don't add much? I don't know, the games i have played with them they have come in slightly handy. They give the army a squad that is i4 and can move faster with out needing the rhino. I have been thinking of another Hq other than the DP, In the chaos codex the named characters are the best, the other three can start to add up in cost. But it brings up a question about the sorc, If he joins a unit of plague marines, does he become fearless or does he turn the squad non fearless? I was thinking about a lord instead of a DP, mainly so i can hide him in a squad, either with or with out a jump pack.
What are your thoughts on that? having a lord with either daemon weapon or power weapon, and the MON riding in a rhino with a squad. my points may be over, i did the list from memory, knowing that i am six points i'll just drop the dozer blades and end up with 14 points to spare, i saw a tournament where a friend brought a sorc and ran through a guard army with him, are they actually that good or are they hit and miss?

Well running a themed army is nice, but don't ask for tips to make it competitive then. It won't ever be.
A proper lash/plasma list would wipe you off the table by turn 4.

Damn i guess its hard for people to read, stop talking about lash. An all nurgle list is a comp. list. Maybe around where you are cheese rules the day, but around where i am, we have fun playing. and the main reason for asking for help is, first chaos army i have had, and haven't played many games. not because i want to know what the best cheese is, so i can bring it.
And just because another person brought up lash again, let me tell you. I have played eldar for 2 years after playing a number of other armies. The lash combo is easy to take out. and ruins your whole game plan. Lash is an easy list to shut down. I don't even know why people still tell me to run it. With the amount of physic hate out there now a days, it seems dumb to leave everything up to weather or not i can roll high than another person. OR if they roll a 4+ they shut down the whole point behind the list.
Mono god lists are just as good as the cheese you want me to bring. And its getting old when every other comment is some d-bag telling me to bring lash and that its the only way to win. I have already posted that i won't even think about running lash and its a waste of time to tell me to run it. I think the true chaos players will side with me on this one. So If you would don't say lash is the best way to win and i could do blah blah blah with it. I don't care, its not going to happen.
As always i thank the people who actually are helping me out with my list. Thank you all.

CSM is a bad book to begin with. Limiting yourself to only 1/4 of the choices of a bad book means you are making your army that much worse. Lash isn't a game winner. Demon princes are demon princes. But a lash prince can have a much bigger effect on the game than a nurgle's rot prince.
If you want to run a mono god list and be competitive at the same time then you are asking to do the impossible. It just isn't going to happen. And yes, there are some armies that have decent psychic defense. But there are a lot that have none. Like yours.

Wow still trolling. There are more than just 4 choices, I hate to tell you chaos undivided is still in the book. But other than that. Having a comp. mono god list isn't impossible. The people not running lash know this. Running lash is crap reason as to why you can't win with a good army. Now if you are trying to take a high place in a tournament you will have to deal with the top rated armies, All of which have physic hate. Seems kinda funny... Grey knights, Space wolves, BA, Any more high ranking lists out there that have physic hate? O wait they all do or don't need it. See IG leaf blower. Now the fact that you came back to defend Lash in a chaos army shows that you have more balls than brains and is nice. The fact that you haven't seen a mono god list do well in tournaments isn't my fault. Maybe you should avoid power gamers and play to have fun. Now I know a DP is a DP, so why waste points trying to pull of some power to try and get the edge? I notice that you haven't said anything other than Bring lash in your army. and that mono god lists suck and never run them because you can't win with them. Do you have any other pearls of wisdom for us? Or do you just want to troll this thread some more? Its you making a jack arse out of your self here so go ahead. Say what you need to say to feel like you won this argument. We all know you are wrong, so please keep trolling. It would make my day. Really it would, There isn't enough people trolling this site as it is. We need you to go to as many threads as you can to state your miss guided views as much as possible. So please with out a further wait Please tell me why i should run what you want me to run and nothing else, tell me that i won't ever win with my army and tell me how much better you are than me because i don't want to run lash.

I'm not trolling the thread and I never would have commented on your crap list had you not made the ridiculous comments that I quoted in my first post. You seem to want to dismiss lash as worthless, yet look at any top tournament and any CSM list that places anywhere near the top is going to be a dual lash list. It is't a power list, but it is the most effective thing chaos has going for it. Lash + plasma spam are the only thing chaos is good at doing and the only thing to build a competitive list around.

I completely disagree with the above statement. I am a firm believer that any book can be good with a balanced list that can beat any cheese out there (me and my buddy learnt that at a tourney we did tau and eldar doubles and we would have won if our paint had been better and we had been prepared for the sisters of battle old rules (3+invul on a squad is ridiculous) but that being said we still did well overall in the tournament and we basically had no repeat squads in the army.) So saying all a book has going for it is one or two things is super lame. In case you're wondering i made a thousand sons fluffy list that is also competitive when played right. anyways back to PappaPiggy, i like your list alot, ever consider swapping out 2 oblits for a defiler? it has a battle cannon, that can aid with hordes as well as vs light vehicles, and with max close combat arms gets 5 or 6 (dont remember) attacks on the charge. And the raptors, would a power fist be better maybe? i dont know, i like wounding on a better roll if i can also the ability to cause ID on a t4 or less unit. Overall keep on rocking the list its looking good. And dont listen to those "competitive lists" that involve spamming something those are lame. The true players win with blanced lists that are take all comers and thats exactly what this list is looking to be, keep up the good work

I've never fielded a Chaos army, but I play them often enough. Jumping back a bit about anti-horde, have you considered freeing up some points for some Havoc launchers? I think they're a pretty good price. If people are willing to run an extra 35 points for TL-lascannon or las/plas on an AV11 vehicle(which I do), then the havoc launcher is worth it IMO.

I have run that list (or similar) a few times....it's solid. Two princes, plague marines, max the obliterators....and then use raptors or termies for deepstrike. You should do well TBH

I would have to agree with you on that... Any list can win... Even those crapiest ones... but it is easier to win if your list is the prime list of your codex. And limiting to fluff is not the Prime, specially on CSM book where you have a very limited choices of prime troops. And that's what being competitive is about, bringing your list to optimum level taking out the luck factor as much as you can. And yes it is also about the general of course, but creating a competitive list is taking out the factor of who will be controlling the army.
@ OP Now if you want to stick with your list, then you shouldn't ask for advice then... Stick with your list and then do the best you can to win... That's all....
Again back to topic, while all nurgle list is solid, it still lacks utility... Your princes will die to las cannons and auto cannons so your toughness 5 will be useless. After the 2 prince die I cannot see ano other risk at all on your list except that plages are hard to kill, until hammernators or anything with power weapons cut you down.
Your raptors will also die early since they are not in a transport.
Best you can do is to go to assault as soon as possible and hope you win those assault. Hide the princes and Raptors behid the rhino until they can assault.
T1: move 12 all your rhinoes, pop smoke. T2: move 12 (or 6 if you are close enough), disembark and wreck havoc with your melta, do not disembark if you moved 6 inches, avoid disembarking as much as possible, it makes your plagues harder to kill. Now with enemy units out of their transport you can assault with your princess.

Yesterday i played my first list to see how it would do. And to see what changes would be the best. I played a semi gun line chaos Bile list, great game, almost boarded him turn 6, but couldn't kill off his last rhino and 5 marines. To be honest, the oblits only killed a total of 5 guys. I don't know if it was the great rolling or the crap rolling by me. First turn he took 2 of them out with missile launchers. 2+ save doesn't work well with me.
The defiler would be nice, but its a giant model that is usually the first thing dead. And with it being my back line in most cases, i can't afford to take a model that could get blown out of the water with out having much of a chance of living. The oblits seem like they are the best bet i have right now in this army. Just because of the different weapons i could use. What do you guys think about daemon princes? The game i played i was only able to get up and almost take out a pred before it got gunned down. It took shots all the way up the field and couldn't do much in the way of anything else. Do you think a jump pack lord in the raptors would be a better bet? or should i keep running the DP and see how it does over a couple more games?
The 8 man squads helped out a ton. I had more men then he could deal with. But as always i thank you all for your help.
And i believe that the chaos codex is a weaker codex right now, but isn't crap. It as alot of strong points, just not a whole lot of options. Mono god lists are fun to build, paint and play. And i haven't had much of any problems playing a mono god list. Of course playing a nurgle mono god doesn't say much because of it being one of the better lists for chaos. But still. Again thank you all.

hi everyone. i was browsing around to see some ideas for nurgle specific armies and stumbled upon this thread. i've composed a list some time ago and wanted to share it here to maybe get some feedback. this is in no way a tournament list. i just love nurgle (as the OP) and need to have 1 god list.
+++ plague (1998pts) +++
Selections:
+ HQ + (400pts)
* Daemon Prince (175pts)
(Eternal Warrior, Fearless, Invulnerable Save (5+))
Mark of Nurgle (20pts), Warptime (25pts), Wings (20pts)
* Typhus (225pts)
(Destroyer Hive, Fearless, Feel no Pain, Herald of Nurgle, Independent Character, Mark of Nurgle)
+ Elites + (420pts)
* Chaos Terminators (420pts)
(Deep Strike)
Chainfist (15pts), Heavy Flamer (5pts), 3x Lightning Claws (30pts), 4x Terminator (120pts)
* Chaos Land Raider (250pts)
Combi-Weapon (10pts), Daemonic Possession (20pts)
+ Troops + (743pts)
* Plague Marines (261pts)
(Fearless, Feel no Pain, Mark of Nurgle)
2x Meltagun (20pts), 7x Plague Marine (161pts)
* Chaos Rhino (40pts)
Twin-Linked Bolter (5pts)
* Plague Champion (40pts)
Bolt Pistol, Combi-Weapon (10pts), Power Weapon (15pts)
* Plague Marines (256pts)
(Fearless, Feel no Pain, Mark of Nurgle)
2x Meltagun (20pts), 7x Plague Marine (161pts)
* Chaos Rhino (40pts)
Twin-Linked Bolter (5pts)
* Plague Champion (35pts)
Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon (15pts), Twin-Linked Bolter (5pts)
* Plague Marines (226pts)
(Fearless, Feel no Pain, Mark of Nurgle)
7x Plague Marine (161pts), 2x Plasma Gun (30pts)
* Plague Champion (35pts)
Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon (15pts), Twin-Linked Bolter (5pts)
+ Heavy Support + (435pts)
* Chaos Predator (145pts)
Autocannon, Extra Armour (15pts), Lascannons (60pts)
* Chaos Predator (145pts)
Autocannon, Extra Armour (15pts), Lascannons (60pts)
* Chaos Predator (145pts)
Autocannon, Extra Armour (15pts), Lascannons (60pts)
The idea behind this list is that I have a balance between mellee and range with some fun sorcery and i stick true to fluff hard core style .
3 troops, one w/o the rhino stays home/defends obj. with plasmas.
Terminators with Typhus in land raider go into mellee and rape face with the backup/distraction of the DP. Daemonic poss gives them a nice, uninterrupted cruise through the battlefield 1 terminator has chainfist/h.flamer vs heavy armor/hordes.
2 plague squads advance in rhinos and "help out" while the preds lay heavy duty waste from the backlines. I gave them heavy armor to help them stay alive longer.
So what do you think?

When I use daemon princes I like to run them in two's to lessen the amount fire that one would take by itself.
In regards to the raptors I've not tried adding a lord but I have used a sorcerer with a jump pack with them and they were fantastic. Make sure the sorcerer/lord has melta bombs though. I also equipped my sergeant with a powerfist as well.
The list is looking good so far, the Oblits are really good but I have similar dice problems as well although my issue is they cant hit anything

Nurgle Predator Driver with an Infestation

My raptors in past games have done well if i can't them out of terrain. IF i touch terrain with them i kill half the squad with bad rolls. The reason i asked about the raptors, is because people seem to think they are just a suicide unit. I personally love them in this army. It gives me a unit that i can keep back behind the rhinos and move them up when i am ready to assault.
My main issues with the list i have posted and the thoughts behind all the help is, The daemon princes i run always get shot way to much before i can get them into a good spot to start taking out models. Running 2 would help but with increase the number of points i am dumping into my Hq's. And i can't find a way to thin the list out enough to be able to have that other Hq. So i was thinking a lord with wings and either power weapon or daemon weapon would be the best bet right now. I can place him in the unit of raptors and let the rhinos start taking hits from big guns until they are close enough to kill what i need them to.
But unless i get more games in and try out different things i think this is left to a "in theory" way of thinking. The oblits are nice, I actually don't know why i didn't like them to began with. But so far what they can do and have done, makes them way better than a tank of the same points. So as of now i will keep oblits in the army, even though they can't hit anything and die because a 2+ save might as well be a 6+, but i think this thread as helped me enough to get into the right direction to making all the improvements in my list, I thank you all for your help (besides the people posting lash ideas) Just to post this, I think this will be the last post from me in this thread for now. Thank you all for your help.
