Ok, one idea here:
Playing a few games recently and I think that... while the elite troops are cool and effective and costs over 30 points, usually cheap guys that cost 5 pts. can kill three miniatures perfectly... if you are lucky...
A Kum rider with Chainrifle that cost 11pts. can make a massacre. In a game that people usually has 10 miniatures and every miniature provides an order... has someone tried to pull a list with 50 cheap miniatures?
Has someone tried a rush unstoppable horde list?
Like all warbands, like all Hungries Gakis and Pretas and a Lt.?
Like this:

So, One Anathematic, 2 Imetron and 41 Pretas!!!!!
In a game where those Pretas can make Coordinated Orders and advance while dodging enemy shots. 41 of them, moving 6-6 inches.
10 guys against 42 enemies. Do you think it will work?
Has someone tried this?

This has been the one flaw of the infinity system that I have seen and spoke of and is easily stopped by placing a 2-3 combat group maximum in tournaments. Personally I do not think AVA "Total" should exist, but rather should be changed to AVA 10 and it would seal off this problem.
We have been meansing to play this list for a while by proxying in Nids. 1 camo marker and 55 Preta.

There is also Morlock Spam. Same concept and Gaki except everything has meta chemistry and your Lt is one of the 3 with a rifle. 3 Morlocks w/ rifle, 36 with Chainrifle.
There is some others that get a bit ridiculous like Haqq Doc spam, but those are the nastiest of the lot. There is some people that swear up and down that suppressive fire placement and AROs will win in the end, I highly highly doubt it. Any of these three lists in the hands of a player that knows what he is doing would be utterly devastating to a list not directly tailored against it.

As silly as all that is, if someone wants to run forty something models against me... well... okay. I only let people proxy if they're my friends or something, if we're at a store and someone wants to break out 45 Space Marines I'm gonna tell him he can take a hike and that the 40K players are that-a-way.
It's ridiculous, but if they have a really bitchin' painted army of forty something Highlanders? Awesome. I'd play against them a few times just to have some fun with it.
Really though, those are some silly lists, and the people I've seen that tend to play Infinity do so because there are certain models they are in love with. There are always power-gamers out there, but I haven't run into any yet. And if people do start running those crazy lists... well, if they're no fun to play against, nobody will play you.

Correct, it would take a <bleep> to try to game the system like that, but there are people like that and it is a legal list. That being said, I put a 2 Combat group limit clause in my events to prevent such arsehattery.

I think I'm afraid of the last one most. Irregular spams while having lots of orders and bodies are not terribly flexible and manouverable. 4 combat groups full of regular orders on the other hand? They can hit you anywhere anytime. This is just plain scary.

It's certainly possible to do but I'm sure we'd never see it. The same could be done with Daylami as well. But really the game itself discourages that kind of playing.
I feel a lot will change when they finally come out with a scenario book. I've always thought this is not a game of just killing each other. Even playing non-spam some factions can do it and some can't. All those armies would have trouble doing certain missions. I'm not sure about the highlander army but most of those lists are either Irregular, Impetuous, or both and would have a difficult time because of it.
With Irregular, remember, they can only take orders, not provide them. So even in their own combat group of all irregulars, they will only get their impetuous order, and their one order! That's it. They have no others to take because all the other Irregulars can't give it to them.

Well, I guess playing missions/scenarios forbids naturally that kind of "Zerg" army lists.
It is very easy IMHO.
Tournament Model
4 Different missions, players make 4 different Army lists. Mission and tables are assigned to the players randomly.
MISSION 1: Hack something. There are three items in the middle of the table. At the end of turn X the player that has more Hacked Items wins.
MISSION 2: V.I.P. There are three stupid V.I.P.s in the middle of the table. Using the civilians rules from Human Speher, at the end of turn X the player who has more civilians sinchronized with his troops wins.
MISSION 3: Conquer the room. There is a room in the middle of the table. Dorrs must be hacked/blown with D-charges. At the end of turn X the player who has more miniatures inside that room wins.
MISSION 4: Anihilation. Kill the enemy troops. Simple.
I guess just by reading this, that only mission 4 would be suitable to use a "Zerg" list (sorry, I'm playing starcraft2 these days).

I just wouldn't play someone with an obviously exploitative army like that.
One of the things that really makes me place my faith in people is that you don't have to show someone your list or explain anything about it. It makes for opportunities for cheaters. And there are a lot of people who aren't above cheating at toy soldiers, sadly.

On one hand it would look cool (horde armies have a special place in my heart being a Skaven WHFB player), but on the other hand if it were as flagrantly exploitative as you say (me being an Infinity noob and all, I wouldn't know) the person in question would quickly have a hard time getting a game (especially from me).
Also, it really goes against the whole "small unit special ops" feel Infinity has.
If this is as big a problem as it seems (this is the second time I've heard about swarms being unstoppable) why doesn't Corvus Belli place a number cap on forces based on game size? That would be a pretty quick and easy Band-Aid to slap on the problem. This probably wouldn't happen just because this tactic sells lots of minis.
<--- Jaded gamer.
Any way, as effective as this tactic may be, hopefully a good ol' shunning by the local gaming community would rectify the situation.

i have yet to play a game but i have a
someone mentioned supressing fire.
if you do that you get your full shots against all models that enter the "tunnel" right?
so the unit of 19 guys with little range meet one guy with an HMG and suppressing fire would rip them to shreds.... right?
or am i missing something?

Any model entering the 'tunnel' will receive the full burst value of the weapon. So yes, most stuff stepping into HMG suppressive fire is going to be in trouble!
But, presumably if you had 19 guys you would be able to try and flank the HMG, or at the very least not attempt a frontal assault..

With let's say a Preta you could move and dodge trough suppresion corrdior, if you get only one wound you can keep going thanks to dogged and chain rifle the hmg guy. First, second or third Preta will succeed at that and they are only 5 a piece, expendable.
I'm not sure but I also think that suppressive fire into smoke is at -6 to hit, and galvegians have smoke grenades.
So... suppresive fire is useful but is no sure win against hordes.

Correct, even though each model acting in the suppression fire corridor gets hit this does mean it is going to murder them.
- You still have to hit
- They still have to fail their save
- Models can block LoF so a congo line will block Suppression Fire
- they still have dogged if you wound
- they move 6-6, so they are on top of you turn 2.
The thing that will several hurt hordes is actually shotguns. Hitting the front on and spraying those behind will do a lot of damage with thta many models. However haqq is the only army with shotguns typically all over the place.

Sorry for the semi-necro (2 months old), but- is there a Combined Army list that does not use Morats, and preferably few Shasvastii (or even none at all), but has:
1. The hungries / preta / gakis in reasonable numbers (like... 4 or 8?)
2. EI monster stuff
This thread was kind of discouraging. I thought the hungries looked cool, but are way too bloody expensive to field tons of (and apparently it's game-breaking to do so). But I think it'd be awesome to have an "all alien" Combined Army list (does that mean Exrah? or EI? Still understanding the terms...) without Morats and preferably without Shasvastii.
People seemed to be saying in other threads that would be a low model count army, but couldn't the hungries / preta make up for the low numbers of the EI monsters?
Maybe having 8 Pretas in an army? (Or even just 4... they come in multiples of 4 so that's why...)
Thoughts appreciated, just feeling out what the options are here.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
I realize perhaps I should have made a new thread for this- what I'm really asking is if it's possible to do an all (or mostly) true alien list, with no Morats and few Shasvastii (or none), but avoiding the low model count problems of EI by including some hungries?
Is that kind of thing at all viable at 100-200 points? I see a lot of people listing 300 point lists, which would be nice to shoot for, but I think they play a little bit lower here at times.
I also can't seem to distinguish between EI and Exrah aliens... which group does an Iskaller belong to, for example?

Ei and Exarhs are not the same. Exarhs are another alien race like shasvasti. All the things that are directly EI have yellow icon with 4 black S (SSSS).
You could try this:
COMBINED ARMY
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
GROUP 1 (Regs: 6/Irrs: 4):
SKIÁVORO Lieutenant Plasma Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, CCW (56)
2x ÍMETRON Electric Pulse (4)
VECTOR HMG / Pistol, Shock CCW (35 | 1.5)
4x PRETA Chain Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines (Biomines) / CCW (5)
ANATHEMATIC Hacker (Hacking Device) Plasma Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, CCW (99 | 0.5)
Q-DRONE HMG, Antipersonnel Mines / Electric Pulse (29 | 1)
247 Points | SWC: 3
ARMY CODE: Army Infinity v.3.0.
If everything goes well you have 7 regular orders 4 pretas and 4 heavy hitters. One of them has total reaction so does not need many orders. And Exarh is very mobile for MI. Automatically Appended Next Post: Or this for smaller points:

Okay, you only just picked like all my favorite models and made them into a list for me . Thank you!!
My only question is, is there a way to make it 300 as well? I like to have the higher number to shoot for / build towards, even though I will likely play 200.
Also, is the drone this model (which I love!):
http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en/2011/miniatures/drones/
Or these (which are OK):
http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en/2011/miniatures/slave-drones/
2 more questions:
-Can I use the same Charontid model for those two list versions, even though it's armed differently between them?
-Can you show me what an "Imetron" model looks like? I've seen them mentioned so many places, but can't find the model anywhere on the web?
Thank you so much this is really really helpful!

The above is various gun drones (the HMG, Missile Launcher, etc) so yes.

2 more questions:
-Can I use the same Charontid model for those two list versions, even though it's armed differently between them?
Depends on how anal your friends are. Theoretically no. In practice even tournaments sometimes have excpetions allowing you to field somewhat proxied model. Between friends -good model but wrong load-out - shouldn't be a problem. Infnity is not overly wysiwyg obsessed game. For example Anathematic scultp has like 4 load outs but only one miniature and without any visible shooting weapon so it nturally can be any load-out.
-Can you show me what an "Imetron" model looks like? I've seen them mentioned so many places, but can't find the model anywhere on the web?
There is no sculpt for imetron yet. Which means ou can proxy it by sticking anything on a base. The closest thing to imetron - Aleph Netrod looks like this:
http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en/2011/miniatures/yudbots-netrods/
Cautionary note: Make no mistake these are not fully optimal lists, they are all slighlty low on orders, but within the limitations this is the best I can think of. I'm not saying they are gimped either, it's just due to vulnerability and impredictability of imetrons you may find yourself low on regular orders, which would require very focused and tactical usage of your limited resources. That is also why I tried to stick total reaction drone in every list. While being outnumbered you will frequently find yourself on defensive and this is when q-drone shines. It makes it harder for the opponent to attack you even if his order advantage gives him more initiative.
EDIT:
To alleviate order problem a bit - remember that skiavoro has strategos 1 and 2. Strategos 1 gives him ability to give his special Lieutenant order to any other troop. This means that if both of your imetrons land well and you deploy anathematic as TO token instead of Hidden deployment you will have a total of 8 regular orders, 3 irregular and 3 impetous. Which is not to shabby actually.

Awesome, thank you once again!
That's the one thing that concerned me, was not being able to waste orders and thus needing to play "well" .
The only non-Morat non-Shasvastii models that I'm seeing that didn't make it into any of the above lists are these two:
http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en/2011/miniatures/iskallers/
http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en/2011/miniatures/void-operators/
Are they worth including (maybe as alternates)?
My final question is, is the somewhat scarcity of orders due to my wanting to keep in the Preta (since they're irregulars), and if so would it be possible for you to whip up a list that is not low on orders, with the same restrictions (i.e. no Morats and no Shasvastii) that does not have to include Preta? I will probably get all of the non-Morat non-Shasvastii CA models, knowing myself...
Also, I'm not sure how to copy/paste the army codes you've posted to use them in the Army Builder myself... I might need to use a different browser, but I didn't see where to enter the code.
Thank you

At the bottom, there's a little icon of a sheet with a green arrow. When scrolling your mouse over it, it says Import Army Code. Enter the code in there and it should be all good.

I'm a CA player but mostly Shasvastii. So far are no sectoral lists for Exrah or Evolved Inteligence figures. They can still be done but they are low on model count as you've seen. I've done a few lists myself as well because I was thinking of doing the same as you one time. I did both an all EI list and a mostly Exrah with some Imetrons and Pretas
Just play with the list builder on their website and see what you come up with. Don't worry about pts. and stuff! HAVE FUN! Make lob-sided games with your friends. Don't worry about what will do "Well".

Both of those are very cool! I think, if I have to choose, I like an EI theme better than an Exrah one. We'll see how my auctions go that are funding this
Going to try to pick up the rulebook at the store tonight, thanks for all the encouragement and sample lists! They are very helpful

Trust me, you NEED an ANATHEMATIC in your Combined army!
It was the model that "forced" me to start collecting the Combined faction.
Of course, I then went all in, and now I'm impatiently awaiting the Raicho T.A.G.
And, have you seen the Jotum for PanOceania? It 'forced' me to start a PanO army...
Nice...

I would actually be happy to play against these lists as with proper defensive positioning of my models, and 45+ enemy models, I should be getting an ungodly amount of ARO's. The fact that they are light infantry with chain rifles means that they are not threatening me until they get within 10" and would die in droves against a Total Reaction HMG Remote, Sin Eaters, Shotguns, etc.
I would happily take this 300 pts list against the aforementioned spam lists:

The Chasseur Minelayers play a shell game early on, then drop back with the Foxtrot placing mines (9 total) which the impetuous troops will be only too happy to run into. The Para-commando will drop into their backfield turn 2-3 (after they've moved up in their rush to get within 10") and hose them down from behind with his HMG. The Veteran Kazak, TankHunter, Wulver and Zouave can all be put into Suppressing Fire, making it impossible for them to avoid my heavy weapons in their advance. Once they start getting closer I can use my heavy weapons to directly kill them, or continue to place Suppressing Fire. And the Dog Warrior gives them a taste of their own medicine, but with 3 wounds, 2 Chain Rifles and many more targets he should be able to reclaim his points fairly quickly
TAG's with Heavy Flamethrower would also laugh at them as with a typical ARM 8 out of cover they would need a 6+ to save a Chain Rifle, and the Chain Rifle'er would need 14's to save the Heavy Flamethrower (repeatedly to kill dogged models). In cover the TAG would be saving on a 3+...

There's not really any spam lists in Infinity. What looks good/bad on paper can be quite different in use. And if used right. This is not 40k where you can do that sort of thing. you can pretty much make a force based on looks alone and do pretty well.
Certainly those lists would have troubles, especially in a strait up kill each other battle. But if you are playing a mission of some sort those armies might work out better.

I avoided them on purpouse. Iskaller is an air deployment troop. Starts of the table, and thus does not generate an order at the begininng. You can start an AD troop normally in your deployment zone but that makes taking them in the first place pointless. On the other hand while Anathematic has TO camo and can start in hidden deployment (thus also not contributing order at the beginning) choosing to deploy it as a camo marker instead doesn not nullify other benefits of camouflage. So with TO camo you can kind of eat the cake and have a cake. With AD youre either short one order or you paid extra for nothing. And these lists are order starved as is.
Void operators arew very similar to vectors. Their main difference is X-visor and 360 field of vision. In my opinion for HMG load out mimetism and MSV2 are better and more universal so I prefer Vectors.
You could make a list with rems mostly. Which would end up as a Combined Army version of the so called Guided Missile Launcher Spam. Let's try it...

I think it looks well. The basic idea of gml is best described in this post by IJW on the official forums:
GML Spam
Description
Powered by a Guided Missile Launcher and some way of marking targets from out of sight such as a Hacking Device Plus or a model with both Sensor and Forward Observer.
In the active turn, enemy models will be marked for guided ammo from out of LoF, typically by using an HD+ through a Repeater. The Repeater being in either a fast Remote, an infiltrating model or fired out of a Marker. Once the model is marked, guided missiles will be fired from out of LoF until the target is down, the target will usually have no chance to react unless it has Sixth Sense 2. Marking can also be done via models with Sensor and FO who can mark targets within their ZoC.
Strengths
Due to it's ability to pretty much guarantee taking down a specific model regardless of armour and abilities, GML spam is very good against forces that rely on a few powerful models or on combinations of models and also against lists with obvious Lieutenants. TAGs have the benefit of ECM against guided ammo but are still one of the main targets.
Weaknesses
The tactic is very Order intensive as it will usually take several Orders to mark each target. It's also dependant on fragile models like GML Remotes.
Horde lists or lists with lots of Light infantry will barely be affected by GML spam unless e LT is obvious as it costs too many Orders per kill.
Camo-heavy forces are a struggle as camo markers can't be marked until they are revealed, the Sensor variant is less susceptible to this.
Counter-tactics
Tactics-wise there are multiple approaches. Getting rid of the GML Remote with it's ARM0 stops the whole thing, as does removing the model with HD+ or Sensor/FO. Reducing the order reserve by killing cheap troops will drastically reduce the effectiveness of the list even if you can't get to the models that drive the tactic.
Unit-wise, Hackers can defensively hack against guided ammo with a -3BTS modifier so usually stop them about half the time. EVO Repeaters mean that a successful defensive hack removes the marking of the target. Impersonators and AD troops are good options for taking out specific models.
Factions
This tactic or play style is mostly associated with Nomads as they have easy access to HD+, often run lists with multiple Remotes and Repeaters, have multiple units with Markers to fire yet more Repeaters and have both of the units in the game with Sensor and Forward Observer (Meteor Zond and Pi-Well).
Aleph can do quitea nasty variant with the Asura Hacker who is much more resilient than the Nomad Hackers but due to her cost it only works at high points levels.
Variants
Normal Forward Observers can be used instead of HD+ or Sensor + FO but suffers from the targets getting an ARO to being marked. Shasvastii are good at this variant, replacing the GML with a Guided Multi Sniper Rifle and using Link Teams of Seed Soldiers including Forward Observers.
Ariadna take their usual lower-tech approach using Uragans or Katyushas and Forward Observers. These missiles can't be hacked in defence but have 48" range instead of 96" and are less damaging than EXP+ AP. On the other hand the Traktor Muls carrying the rockets are cheap, Ariadna has plentiful access to FOs and the blasts are large.
If enemy blocks your gml in some way (hackers) you just blast him old school with two plasma rifles, two hmgs and combined fury of 11 orders. Against some new players it may actually be too brutal list. If you win too easily make sure that they learn tactics versus gml

Both. Hordes have troubles due to low quality. High Quality ones suffer from low number of orders. Some will have a forces will have a few High quality with a bunch of low quality cheer leaders to feed them orders but those have pit falls as well. You can probably tell by my avatar I believe in a nice balance
Until CB comes out with some Lower to Mid point figures for each of the EI or Exrah they will suffer from not having orders.

So, why wouldn't players take a second combat group of all Petras to counter the low numbers, as it would only cost 50 points? Genuine question...
Same lack of orders issue, due to being irregulars, makes it not worth it?
I think it'd be cool to add 10 petras to the first list Rejnhard posted for me, to make it 300 instead of 250. But it'd be too order starved to work?

Due to Irregular, that troop can only TAKE orders not Give them.
ie. a combat group of 10 figures. 2 are Irregular. The Regular troops can use up to 8 orders but he Irregular can use up to 9.
It's usually a good idea to mix them so the Irregulars can do something! Its' Even worse if they don't have an Impetuous order.
In the combat group of 10 pretas/Shaolin/Highlanders etc. They will each have to do their Impetuous order first. Then they each have their own order but they can can not take from each other. So even though you have 10 figures, each one can only do two things!
