Okay, so I believe this is what I'll plan on getting:

Skiavoro
Anathematic
Charontid
Vector
Pack of 2 Drones
Pack of 4 Hungries

And hopefully these:

Void Operator (I like the model)
Med-Tech Obsidian
Pack of 2 Slave Drones

And would convert my own Imetrons.

This has been a fantastic help, and my friend at the store helped me learn how to use the army builder, so I have imported the code you guys posted. Special thanks to Rejnhard for making the opaque seem semi-translucent, and for using the phrase "you can kind of eat the cake and have a cake"

My thought is that to do 300 (what my friends often play), I would take this list:

Rejnhard wrote: COMBINED ARMY
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

GROUP 1 (Regs: 6/Irrs: 4):

SKIÁVORO Lieutenant Plasma Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, CCW (56)
2x ÍMETRON Electric Pulse (4)
VECTOR HMG / Pistol, Shock CCW (35 | 1.5)
4x PRETA Chain Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines (Biomines) / CCW (5)
ANATHEMATIC Hacker (Hacking Device) Plasma Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, CCW (99 | 0.5)
Q-DRONE HMG, Antipersonnel Mines / Electric Pulse (29 | 1)

247 Points | SWC: 3

ARMY CODE: Army Infinity v.3.0.

If everything goes well you have 7 regular orders 4 pretas and 4 heavy hitters. One of them has total reaction so does not need many orders. And Exarh is very mobile for MI.

And to do 300, I'd drop 2 Petras, and add 2 of these 3 things: Another Drone, Med Tech with Slave Drones, Void Operator. So this should give me the models to play the point levels we have, and basically try one of everything that I like

Unfortunately, they did not have the rulebooks in the store, so I may need to order them.

You only need the rulebooks (hard copies) for the backgroud.

The rules themselves are FREE and downloadable from the official site.

I STRONGLY recommend this re-edited (fan) version of the 2 core books though:

Nice to see you getting into Infinity!

Remember you can proxy a few games before hand too. There is not nearly as much WYSIWYG in Infinity either. I'm not discouraging you from buying the figs because I'm that confident you'll like the rules enough to get figs lol. But really those figs are fantastic anyway.

Alph, wow, thanks for that link- so helpful!

CDK, do you mean these models' rules, or Infinity rules? I've watched a lot of games locally so I think I will like Inf rules. For these models, I think it's all but 3 of the EI / Exrah models available, with 2 of those being TAGs, so I don't know if I'd have another option still in-theme. You're right, though, they're gorgeous!

The main factor getting me in is the active group at the store, and the active group on here really helps, too.

I meant you can say use a 40k Dread for a TAG or whatever at first but since you already seem like the rules and figs it doesn't matter too much.

Yeah, good point! No TAGs for me yet

As a follow-up, what is an R-drone useful for? Only 8 points, but I can't see what it does? Do people use the same drone model for it? With no ranged attack, I can't figure out what it would do...

It's main use is as a repeater for hackers. But it's also a nice cheap distraction. You're opponent could think it has a HMG or ML on it but it's just a cheap REM. It's also a good cheap order for when you have just a few pts. left over and can't fit something better.

Oh... so you don't have to declare what the weapons are on a model when you deploy it?

The reason I ask that as well is that there are a few different models for some things (Charotnids, Vectors) and I was just going to go with the one I liked the look of better, since I assumed I'd clarify for my opponent what I actually choose to arm them with.

If WYSIWYG isn't all that crucial for this game, wouldn't I have to tell my opponents ahead of time what gun models have? Or maybe the drones can only be assembled one way...

Thanks for clarifying

Yes, you have to tell everything about your models (those deployed)
The only thing you keep hidden are your AD models, camo models and who's your lieutenant

I never would of thought of using the 8 point drone as judt another order, and two of my lists are short about 9 points.

Thanks guys!

Mainly the R-Drone, and other army variants like it, is used as a mobile repeater. It's EXTREMELY fast, has multiterrain (which most people don't use terrain types), and mimetism. The net result is a fast little bugger that is hard to hit.

When you are low on order it can be a cheap extra order if needed, but typically, if you have not hacker, it's better to mod your points elsewhere to get in another gun or upgrade someone.

If didn't have a hacker or TAG you wouldn't be able to take it anyway.

Common place you see it as an order filler is with TAGs. In particualr Pan'O Cutter lists and CA Avatar lists.

the two lists in question are the main list of MI and HI, alone with a Scarface when it comes out, the other is my Remote list. That base is covered :-)
