Taking finances into account: Orks. If I'm going to get a free army, I'm picking 1 I would need a lot of pieces for.

I'd start the World Eaters counts as Space Wolves army I have been wanting to start for a while. Khorne Berzerker Wolf guards, fenrisian wolf flesh hounds, bloodcrushers as thunderwolves, demon prince as thunderwolf lord... bit to expensive for my tastes.

Probably a Pre-Heresy Army, FW costs a forge worth of gold to get........

I don't know. I often bought models or units just because I like the look rather than builded an army to play with it. So I have minis from many armies. If you would say a complete 1500 points list, I would say something from the ultrapuritan wing of the Imperium, something like SoB or BT.

Either Tau or CSM with an all Khorne army, Khorne Berserkers and marks or Khorne. Perhaps some generic marines with my own chapter, give them white armour with lots of gold trim.

An entire provisioned Company of Space Marines!

Either Eldar or Tyranids

Sister of Battle, so i could sell them all off and buy 2 more armies!

Mono Khorne Daemons.

Herald on Juggernaut-9 Bloodcrusher boxes for 3 squads of 8 Bloodcrushers. Convert 1 to skulltaker using Skulltaker kit. 2 to use as casualties.
96 Bloodletters for troops. 6x16 with spares for basing and casualties.
47 Flesh Hounds. 2 Squads of 16 and 1 of 15. Spares for basing.
Karanak for 15 strong squad.
3 Flappy Khorne Princes with all the toppings.

Probably a Death Korps of Krieg army, using them as normal guardsmen.

Or an entire first company counts-as-Deathwing (painted as Ultramarines) of those Tartaros Terminators.

I've got a counts as BA / DA / Vanilla marine army styled after the Guardians of the Covenant on the planning board. Should be a pretty awesome looking army when I'm done, but OMG is it expensive.

For me it would have to be a grey knights deathcult assasin list using all the proper models because not much can stand in the way of a wave of deathcults and live to tell the tale

I'd get back into 40k with a Death Guard or DKOK army.

I already have the pricey one... orks multiple looted wagons battle wagons,, trukks 180 boys nob bikers and nobz, lootas burnas, and a ton of various hq later

I already have eldar and vanilla marines... probably next choice would be necrons or dark eldar

Honestly, I would just want stuff for my IG (Like pig iron heads/ bodies to put them on), my Tau and my BA. Maybe a Banehammer.

The two latest armies I have started were actually free, funny enough.

The first is Eldar. Over the winter I got a box full of a horde of free 1.0 Dark Eldar from a friend-of-a-friend, and I am using them in friendly games as Eldar Corsairs that are Saim-Hann influenced.

Mostly using the warriors as Defender Guardian squads, a converted squad of Storm Guardians (using the pistol and CCW arms from the old plastic DE warrior sprues), and ten jetbikes, two of which are using converted and attached Splinter Cannons from the warrior sprues as Shuriken Cannons. Also free i the box were a squad of Incubi that are counts-as Striking Scorpions, a 6-man (woman?) squad of 2nd Ed Howling Banshees(they even have laspistols, lol), a squad of plastic Dire Avengers and an Eldar Vyper.

All I've bought for the army is a Wraithlord, a Wave Serpent, and a squad of (new style) Scourges for Swooping Hawks counts-as (and two special weapons from the sprue for the Storm Guardians), and of course the obvious Codex.

The other is a 2,000pt Space Wolf 13th Company (from the Eye of Terror campaign). Also very cool, but painting has stalled because i got tired of painting all the Space Marines. (It would be my third marine army behind 3rd ed Legion of the Damned and very old Ultras)

Mono Slaanesh Daemon Army.

I love the Hit and Run USR and they would do nicely to fill that niche.

I have thought about this many time but have never gone threw with it simply because it does cost money, and well, I would feel obliged to paint them. Painting

Anyway, I would have to go for some kind of marines because they would contrast with my tau I have now.

I would have to pass. I'm unlikely to get the 3 40K armies i have painted before i die as it is...

(if i HAD to pick i'd probably pick up Nids again, as a modelling/painting project.)

I would probably like a DKoK army with Titan legion support if I could have it for free. (though the prospect of painting all that... )

Free also include getting the army painted, be it by you or by commission

I'm an Imperial player at heart, but I'd love a complete Eldar army...with a decent codex...and painted for me...

Failing that, I'd like a do over on my IG army because I've gotten better over the years and I could do a much better job paiting my hordes of infantry!

A CSM army of all 9 legions. Or a giant ork army.
