Looks like Paramount is pushing back the release of GI Joe: Retaliation from June 29th this year to March 2013(!) to make it 3D....

I was really looking forward to this movie, as it looked far better than the first in so many ways. Why Paramount would you pull it a month before release? Hasbro must be knashing their teeth with all the movie tie-in toys that now have no movie to tie-in to. I personally think they're scared of going toe-to-toe with the Spider-man reboot and they're dumping it in a month with no competition.

Regardless. you Paramount for a blatant cash grab!

Thanks for ensuring I can't see your movie by making it into another 3D crapfest, there goes 5 ticket sales from my family

Seriously, where is that little kid we're waiting for to have some kind of siezure while watching a 3D movie? That's all we need to end this bull is a nice, hefty multi-million dollar lawsuit or three!

You know most theaters have the option to see 3d movies in 2d still, right? Watched Avengers in 2d over the weekend.

What we need to do is get a group of people that have vision in only one eye, and complain about how they are getting the shaft, paying higher ticket prices for something they cannot partake in............I might be onto something here

But finding a showing is like pulling teeth. There was only 1 2D showing of the Avengers at my local, starting at midday. Yes I did see it, but they really want to force you to see it in crappy 3D.

A studio allowing tawdry financial considerations to guide decisions affecting a big dumb action film about 1980s kids' toys? Is nothing sacred!?

I hate 3D. Messes with my head, Gives me a headache and the concept of having a 3D TV that you have to sit in your front room with a pair of stupid glass's on baffles my mind.

Pushing back a film by almost a year to give it the 3D treatment is daft. Films are only at the cinema a few weeks now. Hardly seams worth it.

I had read somewhere online they pushed it back because the Avengers was doing so well currently, that any GI Joe toy sales from the summer would be a disaster. I'm not surprised. I bought the first GI Joe movie for $1 on DVD. It was 'OK-". I can't imagine the sequel being any better.

As for the Star Trek Reboot, well, I think Scotty's pet Snarf's appearance had a very similar effect on me as Vader's "Nooooooooooo!"

3D does suck.

It turns out the delay over 3D may be a bit of a ruse. Spoiler Free reason: Test screenings didn't go well.

Spoiler Reason

Spoiler:
Channing Tatum is killed early on in the Cobra sneak attack and some people didn't like it so they are trying to reintegrate his character into the already finished film.

So now if characters die in a movie and we see an advance screening of it, if we bitch hard enough they'll throw more money into trying to shove them back in?

Greater revenue from the increased price, essentially. It doesn't cost them a lot to do it and you pick up a lot of audience that are there for the novelty. A lot of people went to see Avatar because it was apparently 'the best use of 3D' and assorted BS. The trend is dying it's slow death though, as it has the numerous times in the past 3D has reared its ugly head.

Listen, 3D is a wonderful tool for immersion, but it is always used for cheap tricks.

I still haven't seen the other GI Joe movie(s?).

I'm less inclined now that it's 3D. I hate movie theaters.

Well I'm no longer seeing it.

I don't hit myself in the arm with a hammer because I don't want the pain of bruising, I don't watch FOX because I don't want my brain to be hurt by the stupid, and I don't watch 3D because I happen to like my eyes.

I was hoping someone else would know what I was referring to so I wouldnt feel too geeky.

*puts nerd glasses on* Might as well embrace it.

The Animated Movie originally had Duke kick the bucket after Serpentor snake-spears him in the heart. The idea was such a hit with the creators that it spilled over to the other toy-driven cartoon The Transformers. As luck would have it the Transformers movie was released first. Due to the reactions that a lot of kids had when Optimus Prime died, the folks who were making the GIJoe movie had to back pedal and make Duke live in an awkwardly done ending.

Now if the rumours are true that the real reason why GIJoe 2 was pushed back because they killed Channing Tatum's character Duke in the movie and test audiences didnt like it...

well I guess that isnt the first time Duke lives because the potential audiences would have a fit

Oof. Turning natively filmed 2d movies into 3d sucks.

When I went to go see the Avengers at my local Rave Cinemas, I had 2 choices: I could see it in 3D ($5 extra) or I good see it in Fake IMAX ($5 extra). I opted for the 3d and regretted it nigh-instantly. Everything was way too dark and I left with a headache. As a control, I took my niece and nephew to it about a week later. The theater was now running it in normal 2d on normal screens. It was an entirely different presentation as far as light levels and general brightness, and obviously, no headache.

I'm going to the other theater from now on. It's further away, the seats are less comfortable, and I have to drive over a bridge which always makes me nervous, but it's an honest experience.
