With all the speculation, puzzlement, perhaps even resentment with how some of the rules are now working, is there anyone here who is not gonna be taking part in Warhammer 40k 6th edition?

Everyone eventually moves over. There are a few things that might be tough to swallow initially but I guess we will just learn to deal.

I'm going to give it a go, at least.

If i don't like it i can always play 5th at home, but tournaments will be using 6th.

I can always play other games, and get caught up on my painting until 7th drops

I have Warmachine, Dreadfleet, 15mm Napoleonic and WW2...

I hate what they've done to my codices, but I'll be playing. Just not buying from them really. eBay and trading will be enough.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Just dropped £45 on the book, so either I'm going to play it or I'm going to be making an imminent ebay listing

Most likely the former.

I will play a couple of games and see how it goes. This has been my philosophy for years now and hopefully this edition is at least semi decent. As I haven't played 40k regularly since 2nd ed the prior editions haven't been worth my time, hopefully things have changed (maybe).

Fairly new to the scene, then 6th drops onto the table, means I can learn with everybody else and not be super lost. To me, this is a benefit, but w/e.

The transition from 5th to 6th didn't hurt me too badly. I like the Psycker setup, fleet was nerfed, assault units are actually going to be necessary now, flying units will make life interesting, the new wound allocation makes TONS more sense...seems more like an urban combat setup rather than "race across in a Rhino" kind of scheme, if the battlements and such are any type of tip-off.

All in all, if my opinion matters in the least, I think it's good.

Good luck to everybody in the switch.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

I'll play it if anyone asks me for a game, but to be honest I'm moving further and further away from playing 40k (and fantasy). Most of my games have been Epic Armageddon for a while now, and I've fallen deeply in love with Malifaux to the point where I've bought models and cards just for demo games (as well as owning 3 crews myself!), and am now running weekly intro events. I still love the 40k background, the books, and converting and painting more sorcerers for my Thousand Sons (can a true Thousand Sons collector ever have enough sorcerers? ), but to be honest I've been playing 40k less and less recently, and I can't see 6th changing that.

Looking for fun articles on painting, tactics and wargaming? Are you after a new regular blog to follow? Are you a bit bored with nothing better to do?

If the answer to any of the above is 'well, I guess' you could probably do worse than read my blog! Regular wargaming posts, painting and discussions

I'm actually quite sad by 6E. It really pushes xenos players further down the pecking order.

6E has become SM vs Necrons, everyone else need not apply.

I disagree, just read the codex and work things out with maths, vehicles are easier to kill FNP and KFF got weaker as did fleet.

Orks got hit hardest, but I'm fine with it.

Xenos and ig man. Our flashlights cant even glance vehicles, 5+ cover, hullpoints ruin our transports which are used in place of armor, atleast nids get str 4 guns to glance the gak out of walkers and light transports and tau at str 5 guns get jetpacks atleast.
Anyone else LOVE the new gets hot on vehicle rules? Sarcasm.

I'm still a new enough player that I haven't fully gotten used to 5th edition so learning 6th edition will basically be learning 40k for me.

My Dark Eldar Coven gets a kick in the knackers.
The expensive Webway Portal List I've been working on suddenly can't work anymore. (No more than 50% of army in reserve - wwp list = all but 3 units AREN'T in reserve. Can't assault out of reserve = The foot troops I just popped out of the webway that don't actually have any shooting worth a damn get to sit there, and be shot at while their targets back away out of assault range.)

After 2 weeks I'll have to. I inly have 1 place to play, a GW. After 2 weeks worth of tutorials they say 5th out the window.

The only other place I could play is a nearby gamer cafe called Nerdtopia. I DARE any of you to walk through the City of Belfast, carrying a large GW case, a rucksack and a Stormraven box underone arm, go into a place Nerdtopia, and go back home without getting jumped, laughed at, pointed out or questioned by a group of 17yr olds with bad hygiene about your sexuality. Go on. I dare you.

Having now looked over the new edition's rules changes, I'm in no hurry to play by them. I might pick up the revised starter box in October if I find myself missing 40k, but until then I've other, better games to play.

I'm treating this as it should be, a different game. I play lots of games so there's no reason I won't be playing 6th as well as 5th. Mostly it will depend on what my mates want to play.

Read through most of the rulebook and there are no major changes as I see it. Just need a different angle on things, so as an Ork player than means not putting the Nob with Power Klaw up front, let the boyz get shot first. I'll probably drop playing Kommandos but use Flash Gitz more.

It's just one game amongst many games I play.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

I don't doubt that I will play it. I recently picked the game back up after taking most of 4th and all of 5th edition off. I just wish that I had come on here before I started buying stuff again. Oh well, shouldn't really matter that much. It just seems like this edition is going to be really confusing. Nothing like the last times that I played 40k. It just seems like it's gonna be too much for my gaming group to pick up. If I end up going to one of the local stores, sure, I don't mind learning how to play it... but I don't think we'll be buying the book any time soon...

I actually have a full body tattoo, but it's of an invisibility cloak, so you can't see it.

I am far from a GW fanboy, and Ward makes me cringe, but I am actually pumped for 6e. There are a few rules I hate (power mauls and no assaulting out of reserves), a few that are messing my armies up, but I'll work around (1/2 max in reserve), and the rest I actually like or at least see potential.

And to all of those a year ago who kept saying 6e was going to be dumbed down for tweens, you got what you wanted so stop whining already. IMO, a good new edition makes everyone modify their play style. This does and I like it.

My friends and I are in no hurry to switch. The only place we play is in our basements on the odd weekend or late at night when the wife and kids are asleep. It is more a matter of time. We are all busy with real jobs, families, and home repairs. The little time we have for gaming we would rather spend playing then reading a new massive rule book and 8 page FAQs to use it. Though we have been tossing around the idea of stealing the rules for allies. We still play 6th ed fantasy for the most part, so there is really no hurry.

On moon miranda.

I'll be playing 6E, but very casually, primarily when I can't get in a game of something else.

6E has a lot of cool stuff, and a lot of bad stuff, and threw any attempt previous editions made of making 40k a balanced game of tactical wit out the window as is now very much simply a framework for playing with plastic toy soldiers. In some ways good, in others bad, but I've found other games that manage to do both as good or better, and much cheaper.

I still like the 40k universe, but 6E feels like "Warhammer 40,000: Michael Bay Edition" more than anything else, and as a result, I'll be focusing my money and attentions largely elsewhere.

I've got too much 40k stuff, too many friends that play, and too large a local community to quit entirely though even if I wanted to

Aside from removing the assault range, adding in flanking that matters, thinking beyond "Push here, shoot this, assault after", rules that benefit thinking a bit more with listbuilding when it comes to challenges, and proper unit placement..

How is it much worse than tactically thinking?
