Subject: Psychic Mastery Cards - an observation

So, I received my rulebook yesterday, and had also bought the Servo Skull tape measure (which is surprisingly good. I spent a large part of the afternoon just fondling it and giggling) and the deck of Psychic Mastery Cards (which look great... although the case is rather cheap and flimsy. I expect the hinge to last about 6 months at most).
There was some grumbling when the rules for the cards were revealed about the fact that only half of the armies in the game can actually use them. Something tht I noticed on opening them up, though: The case is only half full.
Looking at that, it wouldn't surprise me if the idea is for the original powers as listed in the rulebook to be intended to just cover the more wide-spread powers, and for 6th ed codexes to introduce new masteries specific to each army. Those codexes that draw from the rulebook masteries will probably lose their other psychic powers (aside from Special Character-specific powers) as they are re-done, and the others will gain new masteries in place of their current set-ups.
So as a codex is released, GW can just release a 'booster' of cards to go with that codex, and the deck will slowly fill up.
Or, it might just be that they made the case too big because close enough is good enough. I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Yeah, going on what the did for 8th Fantasy, I am expecting to see more decks arrive. Just a pity the probably awesome 'Waaagh' deck is good ways off yet.

Yep, assuming new cards will be released with each book, starting with Chaos next month (assuming Chaos is next month).

It would be nice if they do, though.

Chaos Marines are supposedly next. And given that they are paired with Dark Angels in the starter set, I would expect DA to follow soon after.

I would have actually thought they would have done a limited run of the cards with a special case, but oh well.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did release a deck for each codex release as with fantasy. It's sort of to be expected.

Ditto. If every book is going to get another 7 cards (or... 21-28 in the case of Chaos), then the extra room makes sense.

They look pretty, yes. As I said, I'm a little underwhelmed with the case, but the cards themselves I have no problems with.
I mean, are they reallz worth the price?
They're by no means essential, as the powers are all in the rulebook. So whether or not they are worth the price is really up to you.
Its just another money making scheme.
Well, yes, of course it is. That's sort of why companies sell things...

Evidently. But what I'm saying is to me it seems like one of those terribly unsubtle money draining schemes, where pieces of pretty paper or card are overpriced simply because they can be. I mean, there's enough people complaining about the price increases all over the place to know that GW didn't always make little extra things at ridiculously high prices.

And that's exactly what it is. Just like pretty much every other optional extra or limited edition that GW have ever released. It's a little something shiny for those who want it, that in this particular case has the added benefit of being useful in the game.
To me, that made it worth the money. YMMV.
I mean, there's enough people complaining about the price increases all over the place to know that GW didn't always make little extra things at ridiculously high prices.
I'm missing the connection there. Those 'little extra things' have always been expensive. People are complaining about price rises because they mean that prices are going up.

Messing around with the Chaos psychic powers might be the reason why the table that shows who can take what powers is not in the main rule book. It's not inconceivable that different flavours of sorcerer will get access to different core decks too.

I was curious about that. Where can we see it? I know it was in the WD but do we really need to buy the WD to find out =/

What psyker paths an army can take is given in the FAQ, which allows them to add the option of the new decks of power with a FAQ update instead of being set in stone in the rule book.

As a forenote, I think the cards are derpy in the extreme. If I wanted to play a card game I would have taken up MTG.
I would be incredibly surprised if Chaos of any army didn't receive cards if that is indeed their intention. Perhaps not the MOST psychic army, but the only army with out and out sorcerers should have its own cards ja?

Then I suspect that you have misunderstood the purpose of the cards.
They're not a playing piece, just a reference. It lets you put cards on the table to remind yourself what your powers do, instead of having to refer to the book.

Is that what they are? Like 2ed wargear cards, because that has not been made particularly clear from GW.
