We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

I live in beer hell.

Panama City, FL, where the majority of spring breakers come every year to pollute our waters and steal our oxygen.

On the plus side, it makes for a lot of really entertaining arrests.

Maybe its just that areas with more beer posts have more people who have nothing better to do than post about drinking?

Don't know, but I wonder why a major tourist town with state run liquor stores counts as a 'more church' area. Could be something along the lines of people not practicing what they preach.

There is no way that San Bernardino County(that big red spot in Southern California) is more church than beer. Granted there are like 100 times as many african american people there than the rest of the state, who are generally church goers, the economy of SBC is such that people drink beer because it makes living there more manageable. It is a terrible place, stuck in 1972. I call it "Gods blind spot".

EDIT: I also love that the largest beer places are LA, San Diego, and anywhere near Arizona State University.

I live in one of those red counties in Southern Illinois. We live in a "dry" county. No bars allowed.

We also have about 5500 residents, 20 or so churches in city limits. Many city ordinances make it illegal to do certain things within so many feet of a church. Kinda makes a lot of things impossible.

I can understand dry towns perhaps. But a county is too large a place to just ban things willy nilly.

My friend lives in White House, TN, in which you can buy beer but not liquor. So what do people do? they drive a whopping 20 minutes away and buy real alcohol in bulk, then take it home and continue with their weekend.

Banning alcohol has never and will never work.

Oh, we have two liquor stores, just no bars. Our stores are also closed on Sundays and have to close and open at certain hours.

Now, we have "private clubs" that run special club bars you can join and go to, but they are not real bars and you cannot just walk in without knowing a member or having an in with the bartender.

Typing this out made me realize the extent of the stupidity behind the town I live in.

No way Cook County is somehow less about beer than church. There are 24 hour bars in Cicero.

I think California has some rule about selling alcohol between 2am and 6 am or something like that, making it illegal so that people have at least some time to get sobered up each day, unless they have the foresight to buy enough alcohol ahead of time to cover the 4 hour gap.

There was a big moral crusade in Cook County during the 80's about the dangers of 24 hour bars and the general consensus was that the actual hazard couldn't really be stopped. People would either buy their booze in foresight, or bars would stay open and pay the cops (in money or liquor).

Well, thank god I live in morally enlightened Minnesota where you have to drive to Wisconsin for yer non 3.2 beer needs on Sunday. Also, in the news, we are now stoning adulteresses again!

I mean, I can get behind the logic of total prohibition from an idealistic standpoint. Never work in the real world, but whatever pie in the sky dream you have - more power to ya. But closing liquor stores on Sunday, and still serving it in bars... seems silly.

Yeah, my step family came from southern Illinois, and I had more trouble relating to them than people from the super deep south. Accent, beliefs, everything. I think there is some super dark voodoo gak messing up that area.

My missus (LA) actually fully hates the proper deep south types, she wants the US to split and be two separate countries. I kinda like them due to the cool accents, the music and the penchant for guns, but I definitely have no time for the Religion and the aversion to beer.

I think about 5 countries would be fine - the Peoples Republic of New England, the Confederated States of We Ain't Got gak Going on, New Old Mexico - or The Drug Baronies, the Pacific Free States and the North Star Republic (may be a bit bigoted toward the upper midwest in my beliefs).

When I was up in Alaska I was in a dry town, and yet it was full of alcoholics. Liquor and beer were expensive as hell but flown in from other areas. People would do crazy things for a fix, such as strain Pine Sol through bread. Mouth wash, like Listerine and Scope, had to be kept behind the counter of the grocery store.

I don't drink but even I can see how pointless (and kind of petty) it is to have dry towns/states in a country and culture mainly of drinkers (however occasional).

Id say that map of Michigan is fairly accurate. People around here take their beer pretty fething serious. Ive seen guys brawl over which beer is better. Infact, when I was in a mud bogging club, there wasnt 1 guy with a beer bogger, there were 3. MudWeiser, a giant car that was 15foot tall and had 70some inch tires on it, The Bud, Painted like a can of Budweiser was a fairly lifted truck with some serious engine under the hood and the other one I cant remember, but I know it was also painted like a brand of beer.

But if you ever come here to bar hop, just dont insult the piss beer they mostly drink, unless you actually want a throw down.

The south has an aversion to beer? No sir, its just that in the south people who drink don't care enough to post tweets about it. The south is known for several things; country music, drinking, shooting, fishing, and then going to church and saying sorry for shooting that one thing they should not of had shot yesterday.

Hah.

Fort Worth is beer to Dallas' church.

Another reason why one wouldn't want to pick the latter over the former (as if we needed more).

Spelling's correct. It's a common misconception that it's the 'Genius' edition, but it is, in fact, the Genus edition.

I don't know why. Perhaps because it covers various species.

Just to be clear: The way they measured "beer" vs "church" is by the number of tweets featuring the word in a single week.

In the examples they used (San Francisco and Dallas), the tweets didn't even get above 200.

This is incredibly small sample size. Two bored kids sending tweets to each other while bored in church will single-handedly make an entire county "church".

Keep in mind that the "dry cities/counties/states" =/= most sober cities/counties/states.

Oklahoma is a dry state. The only beer you can buy in grocery stores and gas station is 3.2%, and anything more powerful than that (including wine and "normal" beer) can only be purchased at a liquor store. These stores are of course closed on Sundays.

But the folks in Oklahoma make up for the missed day by simply buying their alcohol in advance or by drinking more on all the other days to even out the average.

Or course by the time we drink twice as much beer we countered the fact that it is only 3.2%.

Is actually how Trivial Pursuit sells it, as 'Genus'. Most people assume it says genius, but it doesn't, For some reason Trivial Pursuit wanted to name this version of their game after the term for biological classification.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
