I live in a barely blue county, meaning that the sunday bible-beaters were out at the bar the night before...

I went to mass on Sunday, then I was back in the pub on Monday. Or something on those lines.

Wisconsin is terrible when it comes to beer and other alcoholic beverages (I have never touched them-only 18) but there is a tavern on nearly every other street corner once you get a bit into the city of sheboygan itself.

Missouri actually has a surprising number of quality breweries. It's kind of sad that the only one outsiders know about is the worst.

I think that is Isanti county. Just North of Anoka county.

Edit: Thereis an old joke the towns being 1 bar, 1 church, and 1 gas station.

This is entirely too true, but Missouri's second largest brewery, Boulevard, is also the 10th largest brewer in the nation. And they happen to produce some AMAZING seasonals and limited releases. Schlafly, isn't too shabby either. I live in Kansas, where happy hours are just now being allowed, and when I came of age there were no sunday sales. Still can only get 3.2 beer in groceries, and I'm fine with that. I get better service, and selection, at my FLLS (friendly local liquor store).

I've got to say I was a bit surprised by my state, especially given the ratio of fire and brimstone psychopaths compared to the average sane churchgoer, let alone those who don't attend church.

My wife comes from a fairly religious area (something to do with the large number of Scottish Free-settlers who founded it) and my father-in-law seemed shocked that not only did I not go to church, believe in his god, or any god for that matter - and found some of his beliefs to be downright "stone age". He looked at her for some support.
And my wife backed me up.
I'd rather go to a bar than church - I think that if "god" exists, that his omniscience might just extend a little outside of specific buildings. I wouldn't follow one with selective hearing like the father-in-law.

Schlafly's Oatmeal Stout is really tasty. I hear the 4 Hands stuff is really tasty too, though I've never been there.
I don't care much for the Boulevard Wheat, but I'll pick up their sampler ever time I see it. I come from small town Illinois where Sunday sales were prohibited and you were a bad bad person for suggesting otherwise, and I find MO completely reasonable. Glad to hear that Kansas is getting reasonable.

mmmm, Oatie Stout. My weakness. Although in this summer heat wave I've been enjoying Schlafly's Kolsch. I hear ya on the Boulevard Wheat, its not my favorite either, and most of their year-rounders aren't go to beers for me, but anything smokestack series definitely is.
I'm pretty surprised about Kansas relaxing more, especially considering our part in the history of the temperance movement. Its mostly to do with economics I think. We're broke, and have been bleeding liquor revenue to Missouri for years.
mmmm, beer. It may be too early to drink it, but its never too early to think about it.
