Rumor has it that at some time, either when the popular White Marsh, Maryland store's lease ends, or even before then, that GW will be putting a store in Dundalk, Maryland, ( which is to the south east of Baltimore).

The area is a low income and has a high rate of crime. It is also not one where people have to pass through to reach another region. Dundalk is known for having citizens of low education, and a high teen birth rate.

Unless GW is changing it's product range to include bongs, hair spray and blue eyeshadow, I don't see this store doing well.

Which, in all seriousness, shows that GW is not doing its research anymore. The Dundalk area itself cannot sustain a store, and it won't bring it people from the surrounding areas. There have been game stores in Dundalk in the past, but they also sold comics and Magic, and other...products....to keep afloat.

GW's store locations have never made much sense. They put a lot of stores in rural small areas or awkward suburbs in the middle of nowhere and often in states with very thinly spread populations, with very limited store hours, but then they bypass huge swathes of giant metro areas that have little or no hobby presence. Hell, San Diego really only had one game store for almost a decade in a metro area of 3 million people, now there's...2, maybe 3 if you include some that are about an hour and a half from downtown.

And then they wonder why their retail locations fail over and over and over again.

In my area one of the best Game stores is located in a terrifying back ally part of downtown portland where you literally pass homeless people on the way in who ask you "what you got in the case" or stare at you from around a corner. It does really well and i assume the scary area keeps the rent low and allows them to have a much larger store than most around here. The worst part is is that i don't think the drug dealers that hang around there even sell weed. :(

I don't know why this thread exists, but since it does, I'm going to post in it about posting in it.

My local stores are in the ghetto. They're doing pretty good so far, in that only one has been robbed this year. Could turn out ok.
