I know most of 40k's important characters, but I have never heard Gharkul Blackfang. Who is he?

Check these two links, hes the TRUE biggest, baddest ork warboss/warlord. His skin is pure black and he stands like 30 feet tall.
Hes strong enough to go toe to toe with 3 primarchs with Horus being one of them. His army was also strong enough to overpowered 3 legions.
This was the greatest war during the great crusade and this was the war that made horus the warmaster. You could say this and the horus hersery were the imperium's two greatest battle in history.

I think that the Imperium wouldn't be that screwed; the Eldar would probably mess with the Orks because they'd affect their chance of survival too much. Assassin time.

You know given Eldar's track record, the whole thing probably would happen BECAUSE Eldar decided to meddle in it.
I also vaguely recall references to one of the Craftworlds being the ones responsible for Ghazzie leading his Waaagh! onto the path of Armageddon but I could be wrong.

That is one giant ork. I am really suprised I've never heard of him before. Any ork that dwarfs a Primarch is one big mother. I certainly would not want to tangle with him.

That is true. IIRC I think it was Eldrad or at leat Ulthwé that made that happen. Go Eldrad!

Where does it ever say that hes 30ft? I mean by the sounds of him 30ft wouldnt be completely out of the question i just cant see it anywhere.

Don't suppose theres a model of him some ones knocked up eh?

Yep it was Eldrad. Because if they didn't they would have come close to the Craftworld if I remember correctly.

In this image posted earlier, that's the Emperor at his crotch. The emperor is giving Gharkul a blowy. If we consider that the Emperor is about 10ft tall, at the angle shown Gharkul will be between 20-30.

Haha i didn't even notice the Emp down there. I thought it was a tabard or something. Tell you what though, Gharkul and his 0-9 Warboss retinue would make the most brutal deathstar unit out there.

Since people seem to have ignored me completely, I'll quote myself. They already beat a guy way worse than Gharkul, without the help of any Primarchs. I'll correct myself though, the name of the Warboss isn't mentioned. It's on page 168 of the BRB, under the title "The Beast Arises". It's explicitly stated to eclipse even Ullanor.

I seem to recall (no idea where) that if all the orks were to join forces instead of fighting each other all the time, there wouldn't be a force in the universe (save maybe tyranids) which could take them on, and Ghazghkull's making moves to do that, so when he surpasses the level of Gharkul, I reckon it's quite possible the imperium would be screwed.

Because there's not much about it aside from that it was devastating to both the Imperium and the Orks.

That's actually a fan-made image, though the fluff there is all accurate (from the Horus Heresy Collected Visions series).

Though for an Ork that took on 3 Primarchs and was winning, I'd say the size there is rather appropriate.

And yeah, The Beast was probably more successful then Blackfang. He is said to have united most of the Ork race. We're talking trillions upon trillions of Orks there.

Gharkul Blackfang took on 3 Primarchs himself and won with one of them being Horus. I doubt the Beast could do that.

Again, he has been completely ignored.

Blackfang may have been able to best 3 primarchs himself, but that doesn't compare to the millions- if not billions of extra orks that the ork mentioned above would have had over blackfang.

Ok so the only official mention of this Gharkul Blackfang is in the Visions series. I have it in the Collected Visions P143.

The Primarchs Horus, Rogal Dorn and Mortarion and their Legions were vastly outnumbered and close to defeat when the Emperor led an assault from his golden battle barge, the Bucephelus. At the head of a thousand Custodians, the Emperor struck at the very heart of the ork horde, confronting Gharkul atop a towering Gargant. As the Emperor decapitated the giant black-skinned ork, the Custodians laid waste to the warlord's prime warriors. It is said that within moments over a hundred thousand greenskins died and the Waagh! was broken.

So that's the actual quote, no mention of the guy being 30 foot tall, no mention of taking on 3 Primarchs at once and the mention of one hundred thousand orks isn't an exact figure either.

**DOOMBREAD**

The Imperium would need to ally with the Eldar and Tau at the very least to have any hope of survival, seeing as how we no longer have Empy or the Primarchs.
