Any surprises? Did any one really care? Me personally I generally let the Oscars get stuffed, but I was pleased to see Anne Hathaway win for her role as Fantine in Les Mis. Incredible performance and a well deserved win.

The only two I was off on were Best Animated (I don't think Brave was better then either Paranorman or Wreck-it-Ralph), and Best Actress. I thought it was going to be either Sally Field or the little girl from Beasts of the Southern Wild.

McFarlane did a fine job as host, though I could have done without the Ted sequence. I thought Adele's performance was quite weak, but that the Les Mis cast performed admirably.

Is it just me or did Barbara Streisand look like a drag queen Stevie Nicks at the Oscars?

I was expecting a sweep for Les Mis, figuring they'd figure out some way to wedge it into catagories it didn't qualify for, like Best Original Script/Score/Song, just to rack up the wins.

Good work, Affleck! From Mallrats to the Oscars!

Almost better than that was Kristen Stewart, moping in her seat, realizing she wasted her time and blew her career with a crappy pop flick that is already hitting the bargain bins. She looked like she was just there to fill a seat.

Well, he actually got his first Oscar just a year after being in Mallrats. This is #2 for him.

What was with that limp when she came out to present? Her hair and mannerism speak to either being on drugs, drunk, or just had a backstage encounter of a sexual nature before walking out. She seemed very...out of it, to put it nicely.

Edit: I hate that I now know this, but apparently she had cut her foot recently and was on crutches the rest of the time.

Don't be ashamed of your love for celebrity minutiae. Lots of other people won't hesitate to make you feel bad for your interests, no reason to help them out.

Also, good find on the cut foot, did not know that.

I think this was a pretty solid Oscars year. The best film went to an excellent film (I can't say it was the best film as Amour hasn't come out here yet, and I think I missed Beasts of the Southern Wild). I didn't agree with everything, but I didn't find any of it unreasonable.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

She always strikes me as that. I thought the Twilight stuff just had her play like that (or at least the ads are like that). Then I saw her in Snow White, and am now convinced my wiener dogs are freaking Lord Oliviers compared to her.

I don't, she showed a mild range of emotion last night, which is more than she has ever done in a role.

Yeah, we commented on her looking drugged out when she was presenting as well.

Brave was my pick to win Animated, because that's Pixar's category. My bet was literally "I forget which one was made by Pixar but that one will win". We were surprised Argo beat Lincoln and Pi, figured Lincoln had it, or maybe Pi.

I'm no Adele fan, but it seemed the sound editor was entirely at fault there and you could see she was irritated with the sound. They totally overblew the orchestra over her voice.

Shirley Bassey was bloody wonderful though, still got a hell of a voice at 76 years old.

Thay may be, but she's Welsh, and in my eyes, that's unforgivable!

Back OT from what I've seen of Lincoln so far (clips and so forth) Day-Lewis seems hell bent on elbowing out anybody sharing a scene with him!

I'll still get the DVD, though.

But Walking Dead was on. Also Terminator Salvation and that ringing sound when all the channels sign off.

Having Michelle Obama give out the award would have had me throw a shoe through the TV.

I hear Seth managed to piss off a few people. Good. He was hired with everyone knowing who he was. If you knew ahead of time that watching would offend you...don't watch.

Also, I heard Sinister was up for an award-did it win anything? I actually enjoyed it, and I usually find horror movies pathetic.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

As you no doubt did when Laura Bush appeared at the oscars in 2002?

Have faith. I would have showed the same outrage, had I watched it too. Fortunately, I've never watched an awards show that I wasn't involved in.

I haven't seen the oscars in something like a decade, and I've only seen like 5 of the movies that got nominated. The academy and I don't see eye to eye on movies. Not one nomination for Dredd!? A damned travesty.

I don't know about Dredd, but I saw Argo and Lincoln. Moonrise Kingdom kicked the living crap out of both of them. That film was epic. Cabin in the woods was better than Argo, and Bernie was better than Cabin.

Argo is an absolute insult to the real role the Canadians played during the crisis.
I won't watch the film on principal alone since it does nothing but make the Canadians out to be meek little spectators while the CIA did absolutely everything.
