I recently saw a commercial for this on Sci-fi channel, and after looking into the game I think it looks like an interesting concept. kind of seems like Planetside 2 with more MMO qualities. I've already pre-ordered this, and I'm wondering if anyone on Dakka would be interested in giving the game a go? the customization options kind of seem Borderlands-esk, and the world seems very deep. I'd say more but I'm a bit scatterbrained at the moment, so I'd just like to know what you think about this game?

Saw the trailer for the game and it looked interesting, then saw a trailer for the show and screen shots for the game and I'm now no longer interested.

I'll probably rent it from the red box and if it doesn't suck too much buy it for PC.

I appreciate being able to try out a game before dropping $60 on what could end up being poo.

I'm interested, are the 360, PS3 and PC editions going to interact? And it doesn't cost anything past buying the game right?

Gameplay doesn't look bad at all, but the series looks boring. Can they not be bothered to do anything other than makeup and hair dye for aliens?

It's not so much "they cannot be bothered to do anything" beyond that.

"Defiance" is coming from the same creative minds that were behind "Farscape". This is an attempt at a return to form, showing that a show done using the more traditional special effects can still be successful when interspersed with CGI.

Plus, SyFy has a great way to get new talent quickly in the form of their reality show "Face Off".

Oh wow I totally had this mixed up with Bungie's "Destiny" this still looks pretty cool though.

I think the game really sounds cool, and is a type of setting that I am into. Wil be nteresting to see how this plays out on Xbox.

Does anyone know what will be required to play the game when it comes out, for those of use who might just be stepping into Live gaming?

I know that it only will take a Gold membership and the base game to run, but from what I can gather it will also need a chat-board for talking to players in the normal game realm, and a headset for talking to players that you are in a guild with.

Its 50 bucks, and I couldn't even get the beta to work because of the ungodly size of the updates..

So no.

I got it for my PS3 last night .. not sure how it will differ on a PC, but so far I'm liking it.

First impressions..

it's like WOW with guns, and the usual video game quality voice acting (bad). You can't talk to people without a mic... I guess voices were muted by default, which I like, because I hate voice chat in games.. so I like that part.

Noob quests aren't too tough, typical go and do this and kill everything in your way.

I made a survivalist, who is like a sneaky sniper type, but sniping sucks.. maybe in later levels it gets better. But it seems like I just miss way too much even when the guy is standing still, and you can't sneak around because like Borderlands the bad guys always know where you are no matter what. I found myself an assault rifle and I've been liking that a lot more.

You get a noob quad bike that's fun, but kind of a pain to control and unlike other games instead of hitting small objects and bouncing around or under them, you usually just smack into them and come to a dead stop, which is a pain because there's no flat areas at all, there's junk and debris everywhere. Looks great, but annoying to drive around.

Graphics are PS2 at best. Maybe somewhere between PS1 and PS2? It looks like a 10 year old 3D game, with a few tweaks like they tried to polish a turd. landscapes look good, but people are stiff and in a lot of angles you can see that they're using way low polygons. I think the original WOW had better graphics. Monsters look much better though.

There's some kind of thing on their website where you redeem codes to get items in the game. So like the nerd I am I found a list of all the codes online and went and put them all in while I was waiting for the updates so I could be uber. But I don't think I ever got anything from them in the game..

Overall it's decent, hoping it gets better, but I didn't buy it for a MMO I bought it for an adventure game.. if it turns out to be too much of the former and less of the later, I probably won't stick with it much.

So far I would rate it a 6.5 out of 10 dakkas.

To be honest, that's the first positive thing I've heard about the game.

I fully expect this to go down in flames, and probably drag the company down a notch too because of the investment made.

The only way I see this game getting financial succes is if the show is good enough to get people into it.

The game isn't that bad.. people probably went into it thinking it would be black ops 4 online and it's not, but since the internet is made for complaining, that's all you usually see.

It's an MMO so right off the bat you have to lower the crap out of your expectations because none of them are good, some just suck less than others.

Really? So any MMO should have a low expectation? I had high expectations for Guild Wars 2 and so far it hasn't disappointed, few nitpicks here and there but nothing serious.

From what I have heard Defiance has been a mess of a game, Beta wouldn't work for some people, the patching wouldn't work(both beta and full release), slow download speeds while patching resulting in 12 hour+ patching times. Thats before even getting into the game.

I watched a few videos to see the gameplay side of it and really if I want a game like that I would go play Borderlands 1 or 2, I don't own either of them btw. Borderlands has at least a limited multiplayer aspect. The art style of Borderlands looks pretty cool. Plus I can get both Borderland games for £40 as to paying £35 for 1. I think i'll go with Borderlands.

When the rich rage war it's the poor who die

Armies I have: Chaos Space Marines, Tau, Necrons, High Elves

Armies I want:Lizardmen, Warriors Of Chaos, Dark Eldar

Armies I may get: Dark Angels, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts

Just meant they all have their share of problems, especially when their first launched.. just gotta hope they have a dedicated team that wants to make it great.. Instead of it just being a marketing gimmick that they decide to forget about .. I'm thinking it's gonna be the latter, but hoping not cuz that'll mean I wasted $60. Wouldn't be the first time though...

It's been a long time coming - this first came on my radar in early 2012, but I think they are going for a delicate soft launch to try and build some hard core fans and buzz initially as I've seen nothing about it since it actually launched. I do like the concept and hope it does well, but I've not yet seen anything that really excites me about it which is unfortunate. Still, early days!

Yes, let's lower our expectations so we can get dicked over more by botched releases, that's the stance we should be taking.

And really, expecting it to be Black Ops? The crowd you seem to be referring to doesn't even look at MMO's.

It's bad because it's been released without being finished, most likely pushed due to the shows release.

My buddy is into it. I played the last Beta weekend, didn't have any issues, but it didn't grab me either. The rocket quad was fun, and some of the gameplay/ story was interesting.
I thought the graphics were pretty decent, so bad graphics must be a console issue.

If I hadn't just hammered through SWTOR like four times I think I may have tried it out, just because I loved how Rift played and I am curious how the show thing will work out. But I am burned out on MMOs right now. Just going to wait for Wildstar.

Liking it a bit more now that I've gotten out of the noob area .. maybe there were just so many people around it made the graphics suckier to compensate? doesn't seem so bad now.

Don't know about any of the other problems people were having, but I haven't really had any issues.. story seems cool so far, game balance seems fine. I'm just hoping it allows me to play solo pretty much forever, and doesn't turn into wow with elitist raid guilds you have to be in if you ever want to see the "endgame" stuff. I didn't realize it was a full MMO or I wouldn't have bought it, I was thinking it was more like Borderlands. that's what I get for impulse buying...

I do like how XP and loot is handled though.. If you see a fight happening, you can just jump in and everyone still gets XP and loot for it... no kill stealing or anything like that. And you're the only one that can see the items that drop for you, no one else can grab it first. So sometimes I'll be out on a mission, and someone else comes along with the mission too, they just jump in and start killing and we both get the rewards, no need to group up first or anything like that.

I'll wait till the series is out and see how that's reviewed. I'd rather not get into an MMO that could have its popularity ebb a year down the line. =/

My buddy was in the PC beta, and that was one of the favorite parts for him, besides the setting.

I remember the good old days (I played Ultima: Online), where I had to wait for people to go away from an area, because they were killing all the stuff I needed to spawn for a given reason. Or loot stealing- that was one of the most frustrating parts of a MMO for me.

Yeah the show was pretty good. Been playing the game off and on the last week or so and it's grown on me a lot. But to me it's more like a single player game with other people running around. And I like how so far I haven't needed to group with anyone for anything, maybe it just scales up in toughness if you're grouped up?

The big hellbug infestaion wars are fun too.. as long as there's an ammo box nearby.
