As in if you were a guardsman in the 40k universe, which type of armour would you least like to face. For me it would be either the Iron armour Mark III just because of the huge size, terrifying noise and the horrible crunch when the marine runs into you. Or the armour type form the book betrayal, can't remember the name, it starts with an S and looks like the guy is grimacing at you. That would be creepy...

I think the one with all the weird bumps on it, I think it's the Heresy model, just because.. Yano.. If you get headbutted by one of those things, you're gonna have 3 big ol' craters in your skull.. And I also think they just look weird as Hell xD

This.

If I were a 'normal' human, and I am witnessing a 7' tall, genetically enhanced super-human warrior, wielding a fully automatic grenade launcher, emerging from the glowing hot hull of a drop pod, the specific mark of his armor would be the absolute LAST of my concerns @ that point.

Mk VII the least because its generic.
Mk VI because its slightly less generic
Mk VIII because it looks even better armoured than Mk VII
Mk II because it looks really angry
Mk III because its angrier than II
Mk IV because its so venerated and high end
Mk V because it must be a badass Mudderfether inside
Mk I because it got Duke Nukem looking visor and its definately a badass.
Mk I with a Skull Mask for Chaplain
MkI with Psychic hood because he badassly mindrapes things.
Mk I with Psychic Hood and Skull mask because he zealously mindrapes you while being badass.
Mk I with Skull Mask and Psychic Hood inside a Dreadnought. Now you're just screwed.

MK I. For totally different reasons. I can die respectably at the hands of any other Mark of power armor. I just don't want anyone to see me get killed by something as ridiculous as that Mark I armor though!

Is their really that big a difference between marks of power armour?

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Yes. In its original writeup (Forge World want to sell lots so they've given it a bit of spin doctoring) MkV armour was seriously deficient - the wearer either suffered degraded suit performance or else cranked up the power level resulting in heat unbearable to the wearer thereby degrading his performance, and yet the suit was mass produced in vast numbers because it was better than sending loyalists into battle in MkII vs traitors equipped with the superior MkIV.

MkIII was a separate kettle of fish, it has superior frontal armour to any other mark, but reduced rear armour, maneuverability and senses - great for suicidal frontal charges, not so great for fighting in broken terrain where your impared senses prevent you noticing the guy hiding in the shadows till you've walked past him and he's shot you in the back. Never intended as a replacement for MkII it is still used by many modern chapters for boarding actions.

Differences between MkIV, VI & VII are a bit more vague, tho the 'progressionists' will likely be offended to know that FW has said MkVII lacks the advanced optics of MkIV & VI.

I would least like to face Mark III 'Iron' Armor, because if I'm facing it, then I'm confronting the marine inside from his most heavily armored side.

That would depend on whether he was facing you, not where YOU were facing

One with a marine smart enough to respect his enemy.

He'll be the one with his hat still on and covering his weakspots.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

The PA I'd least like to face as the Guardsman? One infused with the power of Slaanesh.

I remember the Traitor Marine from the 'Farseer' novel having armor that would change color dependant on his mod and whim, as if wearing your emotions on your shoulder wasn't enough he wore his on his power armor. There was just something very dark and disturbing about that suit of armor....

I'm so glad I read this entire thread before replying, I was going to make this exact joke.
On a more serious note, I'd rather not face Mk.VI, stealthy power armour is scary as hell.

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.
