Which army was the first that you focused on and played as for your main/favorite army? What influenced you to choose that army and were there any difficult decisions that almost persuaded you to do something else? What were the moments that made you satisfied or disappointed with your choice?

I first started with Dark Angels right when 6th edition came out and I liked that the DAs could make either bikes or terminators troop choices in their one codex compared to Vanilla Space Marines White Scars making bikes troop choices or (I don't really know for sure so correct me if I'm wrong) Space Wolves making terminators troop choices. But as I was playing DAs, I always felt that I had too few guys and therefore too few guns. That was what brought the IG to my attention as I liked the idea of a average guy killing things that could destroy worlds with a OP flashlight. But I always go back to my DA, to remember my roots.

Space Marines is my current and only army. I am looking to start a small Tau force though.

I have only been in the hobby for 4 or 5 months now but have been interested in it for a while just never pulled the trigger. I was going to get the AOBR box set but I had looked up the new Dark Vengeance coming out so I waited...and waited then bought it.

I converted the Dark Angels into Space Marines because at the time I just really wanted to play an easy army and one I could find a cheap codex.

I just chose it for the price point for $110 bucks I got about 750 points of space marines and a rulebook and an in for the hobby which was a great start for me and I still enjoy the Space Marines but I want to branch out and play something else (since there are a lot of people at my FLGS that play Space Marines).

That's why on Thursday I am getting the Tau battle force to start my new army because I love the fluff, the look of them, the way they play and they are just awesome and that's why I am getting them and that's how I think most people just pick an army. One they love everything about.

SoB represent, yo. Got into the hobby recently and while I was initially hesitant to collect Sisters, for obvious reasons, they were what my mind was set on so they're what I had to go for. Just love their fluff and models, and their playstyle sounds pretty fun (haven't played a game yet so that's all I can say).

Did buy a few IG as a kid (around 12 years old I think) but I don't count them. Just bought a few random models and never actually played a game.

Way back in the RT days I had the sorta Space Wolves that existed back then. But my first real army was Eldar. Ironically, with all the forces I own, I don't have them anymore.

Tau.

I was just getting exposed to the hobby when the original codex: Tau came out (No idea how, I think I saw a game played at the hobby store once. I hid behind one of the shelves to watch). I had nobody to play with, but my grade school self got my parents to drive him to the FLGS and bought a box of Fire Warriors. That first squad was an affront to everything good and descent in the world of modeling. I'm just glad I didn't try to paint them.

Been a Tau guy ever sense. I'm not an anime fan or particularly enamored of Asian culture or anything, I just like the way they fight. It always seemed dumb to me that people still fought each other with swords and axes when there were perfectly good guns available.

Like watching other people play video games (badly) while blathering about nothing in particular? Check out my Youtube channel: joemamaUSA!

The proud ranks of the Imperial Guard can offer you premium LED flashlights to fight off the horrors of the galaxy, just visit your local Commissar to cure yourself of the Tau ways that totally doesn't involve a bolt pistol to the head. Have a nice day.

Joking aside, my friend told me the same thing when he started his Tau army. "Why fight super-powered enemies with chainsaw weapons upfront when you can shoot them to death from afar?"

I told him that it wasn't manly.

He told me that he would be alive. I left this conversation as "To be continued."

Space Marines in 5th edition, though I had wanted to play them since I saw the tyranid vs. space marine set when I visited Cambridge, England for a summer exchange program whilst in high school.

From there on it was dawn of war games, then finally space marines. I'm kinda torn between SM and SoB, but I don't have the hobby budget to afford that army, currently.

Tyranids.

Titan Legions was my first GW wargame, and I got the Adeptus Mechanicus. I didn't much enjoy them, however.

Then my brother and I got into 40k. I got the Orks from the starter, and again, I didn't much enjoy them. Then Codex Tyranids released. Man, I love those. Actual alien aliens. So I started them and put my Orks aside. I did do a brief foray into Chaos, but Tyranids were my most coherent army.

I even grabbed Hive War when it released in an effort to get back into Epic. That didn't pan out, but I love the tiny bgs I did end up buying.

Once 3rd edition hit, it was obvious I was going to need a lot more models, and didn't have the money. I shelved the Tyranids for a Salamanders army. Then just before 4th edition released I quit the hobby altogether.

When I picked the hobby back up I went straight to Tyranids again. New models, new rules, fresh start.

Necrons.

Last year I finally decided to start playing 40k instead of just playing the video games and reading the books. I have a huge curse: I love every single army. I would love to have all of them so why Necrons? After much talking with my FLGS owner, we narrowed it down to 3 Battleforces: Necrons, Tau and SM. The big decision was between Necrons and Tau.

As much as I love Tau, the lore of the Egyptian Robot Zombies in SPAAAAAAAAAACE was too awesome. Yes, I'm a new-cron fan, deal with it

I started with WHF and always was drawn towards chaos. So when I started 40k, I knew I had to try chaos. I started a Khorne army full of beserkers and Khan of course.
Eventually, I got tired of losing every match and found a great deal from a friend to trade for a tau army about 2 years ago. Been fighting for the greater good ever since.

Good topic! My 1st army: Eldar.

Reason? It was simple; no one else in town played them. Back in 3rd edition, my friends had tons of Space Marines, a Dark Eldar player, one Ork player and some Catachan Imp Guard. I wasn't feeling Nids, so I purchased my friend's Eldar battleforce and got started.

Orks! I wanted a ruthless killing army, one that was relentless in their pursuit of destroying the enemy. At first I thought Dark Eldar would be my choice. Definitely ruthless, but they were a little fragile for head on attacks. Although their speed is nice.

Then I found Black Templars. They are relentless in their pursuit and have a holy side to their need for destruction. But they are space marines, and as far as fluff goes will only want to fight certain armies.

Then I realized the Orks, while goofy, love killin an smashin more than anything else, and they give me a lot of opportunity to do some custom modelling. the looted wagon for example. I also like to have a bit of humor involved in my gaming.

Tyranids. Their biopunk horror-esque look appealed to me greatly. I'm a fan of things bio-horror, and they just looked plain awesome. I knew nothing about the rules, then I learned about Synapse, which I was 't too fond of. But their looks made up for it, and I'm just dealing with it, and it isn't too bad. Their lore is even better, especially Lictors, The Parasite, and the Swarmlord.

My first army was Eldar.

It was 2001, I was fresh out of MageKnight, looking to get started on a game people at my local store actually played.

Tabletop wargaming was still new to me, so I assumed I could use a mix of units in my force. I also assumed that the rules would be contained in the box, or that they'd be quick, simple rules laid out on a small pamphlet.

So, knowing nothing about the rules, I went with the unit I liked the look of best that my FLGS had, and I picked up a box of Dire Avengers after about 10 minutes of looking the boxes over.

When I opened the box, I was expecting them to be assembled and painted (MageKnight). Instead, I found a bunch of plastic sprues with parts, and metal heads, pistol, and diresword. I assembled them with Testors model glue I had from when I built model airplanes. The heads and Exarch arms did not want to stay, but I must've melted the plastic enough or used way too much glue, because I got them to stay.

Ahh, the sweet days of blissful newbery, when I still loved to paint models and sucked at it badly enough that I didn't even notice or care about the horrible quality and awful mistakes.
