Conferring a 4+ cover save (2+ in cover) with a 3d6 jump move to escape any assault unit to a squad of plasma/melta wielding crisis suits with tank hunters is....really powerful. Really, shes basically won me every game I've played, done the lions share of the killing, soaked up whole armies of firepower and not been killed once. You can even infiltrate her and her squad behind enemy lines to pick off artillery skulking behind cover. The single time she was assaulted (by Ghazgull BTW ; was a bit too jammy being that close ) overwatch took his last wound.

Anyway, I think most Tau players would want Shadowsun in their army. Shes a babe. 145pts is not much when a kitted out Commander is about the same. But the model is a little dated and relatively undynamic. So do you think they might do it in a second wave. Or would they let it stand?

Yeah, there's really nothing dated about the model, especially given how relatively recent it is, and it's not lacking in anything in the first place.

It's one of the best looking Tau models. Why do you want it replaced?

I bought it when it was released years ago just to paint.

Its cool and part of the reason I got it a few years ago. But still. A new model is always nice. Plus cities of death was still quite a long time ago. Not long after the last Tau codex was released; what, five years ago?

Shadowsun is actually one of the newer SC models. Abaddon and Kharn are still running around with their 1996 2nd edition models. I wouldn't expect an update any time soon.

N you call me dream crusher. Of course they'll keep the armor. If you can have dark eldar prancing around in skimpy latex, or form fitting armor then I fail to see the issue. Nobody says the wyches or Lelith should cover up. Or dares?

My dream is to paint the armor black with red robes and give them all Targaryen silver hair. TBH i actually think they might do that for the generic colour scheme rather than white hair.

No, GW does not remake Characters.

I think Ghaz, Yarrick and Marneus are the only characters to have been given a new model (except DE who got all new models).

I'd be a little upset if they wasted time on Shadowsun when the Pheonix Lords need new models, as well as Abaddon, Fabius Bile and DOOMRIDER!

I guess it was because the Commander model became a separate suit variant which was a lot bigger than an XV8. Although, frankly, a sword and shield in the basic kit would have sufficed.

Shadowsun is great as is, one of the few old (non-forgeworld) Tau units that I didn't want to be re-done.

by the sounds of it, if anything needs to be updated it's gw's craptacular broken rules.

This is sci-fantasy. We don't know that at all.

We do know that the Tau evolved from plains-dwelling herbivores. They might be space-cows, which are mammals.

£10 says it's something to do with the names of the vehicles.

If Eldrad, possibly the most overused character EVA, didn't get a redo for his 20+ yr old model, I doubt Shadowsun gets one.

Plus it's a nice model to begin with.

Can I just chime in and say she was awesome before?
I had her in almost every game and she deepstruck and killed tanks for me left and right while surviving 80% of the time

Why?

Because her model is already awesome, and if they redo it theyre just going to make her cost ~45-55USD because its "new unit" fodder and will sell anyway.

Hell look at the Broadsides. What about their fancy new model, which looks funky as hell? Price increase because its "new" not because its actually worth the costs.

Gotta admit that Shadowsun is a good one. I outta try that, i actually DONT have a shadowsun model atm and im trying to avoid buying straight from GW's overpriced website.
That, and i love kitbashing/kustom building (my Wazdakka is a good example, or my Deffbrute) my stuff, and i always find it hard to do that for Tau.

I have to say Shadowsuns current model is very cool looking. Like some of the others I got the metal model just to paint for cheap (because apparently nobody used her in 5th). The model is unique, sleek armor, has decent rules for her now and as warlord that 3d6 thrust move is pretty helpful.

as a 25mm base model she also helps keep the footprint of her unit smaller for thrust moving into hiding spots, after raining down a teams full payload of fusion shots.
